Matt Costa tour dates follow new studio release

Tour dates have been announced for acclaimed singer/songwriter Matt Costa in support of his upcoming self-titled album to be released on Feb. 12 via Brushfire Records.

Matt Costa was recorded in Scotland and produced by long-time Belle & Sebastian/Mogwai collaborator Tony Doogan. Belle & Sebastian’s Stevie Jackson, Chris Geddes and Bobby Kildea are also featured throughout the new 10-song collection.

For his fourth album, Costa had originally set out to make an album of folk/roots-inspired songs, but once he arrived in Glasgow, his initial idea evolved into something else entirely. Costa blends expansive horn and string arrangements with ethereal harmonies, thoughtful lyrics and warm vocals.

The new tracks evoke elements of psychedelic 60’s pop, 70’s Laurel Canyon rock and British folk all fused with Costa’s penchant for pushing melodic boundaries. However, the singer does not hang on one style for the length of album. Matt Costa ranges from lush, elaborate arrangements (“Golden Cathedrals”) to nostalgic jangly pop (“Early November”) to dreamy folk (“Ophelia”) to enchanting ballads (“Eyes For You”).
