The 8-minute display opened with a celebration of Coachella favorites from the past twenty years, before transitioning into the BLACKPINK set on the Coachella main stage.
The collaboration between SKYMAGIC and Coachella is the largest ever drone show at the festival and has been brought to life by Creative Director Patrick O’Mahony, and marks the inaugural performance by SKYMAGIC in the US.
This show featured the Coachella Ferris wheel, The Spaceman and Butterfly, and was amplified on site by a newly commissioned soundtrack from London-based music producer David Wakefield of On The Sly Audio. Coinciding with the final flight path, the festival site was plunged into darkness as a pulsating pink light filled the landscape and BLACKPINK’s headline set commenced.
Creative Director of SKYMAGIC, Patrick O’Mahony said: “We are thrilled to be here in 2023 to showcase this collaboration between SKYMAGIC and Coachella. This is a magical festival bringing together the best and most interesting in music and art. We wanted to create a show that reflected this, the landscape and history of this special place. This has been the perfect collaboration and launch pad for SKYMAGIC as we expand into the U.S."
The special drone show will have an encore for Coachella's Weekend 2 at approximately 9 p.m. PST.
SKYMAGIC has delivered hundreds of spectacular shows across the globe in over 25 countries above major landmarks such as: Buckingham Palace, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Mount Fuji and many more across the globe. Over a billion people worldwide have seen SKYMAGIC shows.
SKYMAGIC are one of the world’s leading swarm drone companies, with their expansion into the US. Tonight’s drone show has been designed by SKYMAGIC and produced with Gravity Productions. The full show can be viewed on Coachella YouTube channel.
