rockalittle.com
Stevie Nicks will release her new CD 24 Karat Gold –Songs From The Vault on Oct. 7 on Warner Bros. Records.

It will include never-before seen Polaroid photos taken by Nicks throughout her career. A special Limited Edition Double Vinyl Album will be released on Sept. 29.

Additionally, a Deluxe Photobook CD album will be available for fans, which includes two bonus tracks plus 48 pages of exclusive photos from Nicks’ personal photo collection. Pre orders are available beginning Aug. 5.

Produced by Dave Stewart, Waddy Wachtel and Stevie Nicks, the new album follows critically acclaimed 2011 CD In Your Dreams.

“Most of these songs were written between 1969 and 1987. One was written in 1994 and one in 1995. I included them because they seemed to belong to this special group. Each song is a lifetime. Each song has a soul. Each song has a purpose. Each song is a love story…They represent my life behind the scenes, the secrets, the broken hearts, the broken hearted and the survivors. These songs are the memories - the 24 karat gold rings in the blue box. These songs are for you,” commented Nicks.

Nicks also has a new official Instagram account – ‘stevienicksofficial’ where she will be previewing snippets of her new album each week beginning Aug. 5.

On the road, the rock vet is scheduled to join the Fleetwood Mac ‘On With the Show’ Tour with recently returned bandmate Christine McVie, beginning Sept. 30 in Minneapolis.

“It’s so exciting to have Christine back after so many years. We can’t wait to get on the road together,” stated Nicks.

It's a great occasion for families to come listen to great music and teach their children about where their food comes from. We're proud to bring Farm Aid 2014 to North Carolina for the first time to feature the family farmers whose hard work and innovations are essential for all of us." -- John Mellencamp

New Model Army mixes new and live tunes

New Model Army has set a Sept. 16 date for their new double CD collection Between Wine And Blood, released on earMUSIC/Eagle Rock Entertainment.

Between Wine And Blood is a six song EP and 11 track live album recorded on the latest European tour. Full length Between Dog and Wolf came out last September and was their fastest selling album in 20 years, charting top 30 in UK and Germany.

The second half of the Between Dog and Wolf tour, planned for spring 2014, was postponed until autumn when drummer Michael Dean was diagnosed with blood clots in his leg and advised not to play shows. Instead the unexpected time off was used to record new songs for the EP to accompany the live tracks.

“When we finished ‘Between Dog and Wolf’ we wanted to keep the momentum going, and with Michael being unwell, the time became available to get back in the studio earlier than we planned. Michael was there writing and co-producing whilst he recuperated. The result is an eclectic and immediate-sounding New Model Army mini-album and feels to us like a logical move from ‘Between Dog and Wolf’s’ experimentation,” said lead singer Justin Sullivan.

Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool), who previously mixed Between Dog And Wolf, returned to mix Between Wine And Blood in LA. "It was a pleasure again - and beginning to feel very much as if Joe's part of the NMA family,” said Sullivan.

Johnny Marr news

Johnny Marr’s second solo album Playland is scheduled for October.

Work commenced in London in the Spring as soon as the year of touring in support of The Messenger ended. It finds Marr continuing the creative connection that was forged on The Messenger with collaborator and co-producer Doviak as well as the other musicians who performed on the album and accompanying tour.

As the English guitarist/singer states, “When 'The Messenger' came out, I kept on writing. I liked that the band had a momentum going on tour and a connection with the audience, and I thought that energy would be good to capture on the new record.”

Penned around a common theme of “songs that move at the speed of life,” Playland captures much of the spirit that made The Messenger so memorable.

“It’s important to sound like your environment and on this record that’s London and Manchester,” he adds. “The feeling of the cities and the people make it into the music.”

The title Playland is inspired by "Homo ludens," a 1938 book by the highly influential Dutch cultural theorist Johan Huizinga which explores the concept of play as a precursor and principal element of cultural development.

To be released on CD, vinyl and digital formats, the Playland track listing is:

Back In The Box
Easy Money
Dynamo
Candidate
25 Hours
The Trap
Playland
Speak Out Reach Out
Boys Get Straight
This Tension
Little King

Eric Clapton's tribute to JJ Cale

Eric Clapton & Friends: The Breeze, An Appreciation of JJ Cale will stream in its entirety on iTunes Radio First Play (iTunesRadio.com/EricClapton) ahead of its July 29 release. The album is available for pre-order now (iTunes.com/EricClapton).

Clapton has often stated that JJ Cale is one of the single most important figures in rock history, a sentiment echoed by many of his fellow musicians. Cale’s influence on Clapton was profound, and his influence on many more of today’s artists cannot be overstated.

To honor JJ’s legacy, a year after his passing, Clapton gathered a group of like-minded friends and musicians. With performances by Clapton, Mark Knopfler, John Mayer, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Derek Trucks, Albert Lee, David Lindley, Doyle Bramhall II, Greg Leisz  and others, the album features 16 Cale songs and is named for the 1972 single “Call Me The Breeze.”

“I would like people to tap into what JJ Cale did – that’s the point. I’m just the messenger; I’ve always felt that that’s my job. I try to interpret things so that the public at large, or at least the people who listen to what I do, will become intrigued about where I got it from,” said Clapton.
