Jonas Brothers present 'The Album' in May

Jonas Brothers' new single “Wings” can be heard HERE. It precedes sixth full-length studio effort The Album, out May 12.

The official music video features actress Haley Lu Richardson [White Lotus]. It was shot in Las Vegas and directed by Josh Rimmey and Zach Williams.

The Album follows 2019’s Platinum-Certified Happiness Begins, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the GRAMMY® Award-nominated, 5x-Platinum, Billboard Hot 100 #1 smash hit “Sucker.” Pre-order/Pre-save The Album now HERE.

The trio said, “‘Wings’ is the perfect start to this new chapter for us. Working with Jon pushed us to explore our artistry in a way we never have before. The song is a great first taste of that creative exploration and what’s to come with THE ALBUM.”

Executive producer Jon Bellion added, “We wanted to wipe the palette clean and demolish every expectation and box the brothers have ever been put into out the gate. We pushed ourselves to launch this thing musically into space while grounding it in a sort of Americana / Laurel Canyon nostalgia. There was a time when structure and composition mattered not only loops and vibes, and we dove into that mind frame. We went so deep into the spirit and energy of the late 70’s, the mustaches and long hair method acting approach started to just become our actual reality. The brothers have a God given ability and talent that deserves this level of record making at this point, and I just wanted to honor how special they are with this music.”

Track listing:

"Miracle”
“Montana Sky”
“Wings”
“Sail Away”
“Americana”
“Celebrate!”
“Waffle House”
“Vacation Eyes”
“Summer in the Hamptons”
“Summer Baby”

Out now: The Struts' acoustic EP with Oasis, Michael Jackson covers

British rockers The Struts are back with Unplugged at EastWest, a live EP and video set recorded in partnership with Taylor Guitars. Featuring their hit single, "Fallin' With Me," the 4-track album also includes covers of Michael Jackson's "Stranger in Moscow" and Oasis' "Supersonic," as well as a long-awaited full-length version of "Pretty Vicious."

Amassing 14M views on a snippet uploaded to TikTok in 2021, the unreleased single has been a viral fan favorite for years. Footage of the EastWest live recordings is also available now via YouTube.

"We loved teaming up with Taylor Guitars to play this intimate, unplugged set at the legendary EastWest Studios in LA," frontman Luke Spiller elaborates. "Not only did we get to play a few new originals, but myself and Adam both chose a special cover that embodies our individual introductions to music."

In addition to new music, Spiller has also announced his collaboration with Fossil Group imprint Misfit, designing a special-edition watch that kicks off the brand's exclusive new Artist Series designs. The limited-run The Time Is Now boxset includes a modern take on a vintage-inspired pocket watch that can be worn as a traditional wristwatch or on a necklace chain. The piece is limited to only 400 units and drops on Monday (2/27) via misfit.com for US customers and watches.com for European and Asian buyers.

The group, comprised of lead vocalist Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack, bassist Jed Elliott, and drummer Gethin Davies, was formed in Derby, England in 2012. Bursting onto the scene with their hit single "Could Have Been Me,” they have since released three albums, including collaborations with heavy-hitters like Robbie Williams, Kesha, Tom Morello, and Def Leppard's Joe Elliott and Phil Collen. The group has also gone on to earn the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s Viral Top 50, opened for The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, and Guns N’ Roses, played major festivals like Lollapalooza and Governors Ball and more.

Justin Moore readies 'Stray Dog' for May release

Justin Moore's sixth studio album ‘Stray Dog' is slated for May 5 via The Valory Music Co. It was recorded at the historic Castle Recording Studios in Franklin, Tennessee.
Moore and the band captured the majority of ‘Stray Dog’ live over the course of just a few days.

A maverick by nature, the singer says, "A long time ago I decided I wasn’t going to play games or pursue things that didn’t make me happy. Perhaps that’s made me a bit of an outsider in this industry, but it’s also what allows me to go to bed each night feeling good about what I’m doing.”

Among the songs is “With a Woman You Love” (his latest No.1 single) and “You, Me, And Whiskey” (a duet with Priscillia Block). Of the title track Stray Dogs,” Moore says, “It’s a really personal, autobiographical song. I’ve never just gone along with the crowd. I’ve always tried to follow my heart and let the chips fall where they may, and I’m really proud of that.”

Born and raised in Poyen, Arkansas, Moore landed his first Country No.1 with “Small Town USA,” off his 2009 self-titled debut. It went Platinum, as did its 2011 follow-up, ‘Outlaws Like Me,’ which yielded yet another No. 1 single with “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away.” In the years that followed, Moore would go on to land nine more No. 1 singles, a New Artist of the Year trophy at the ACM Awards, more than a billion streams across platforms and record with Miranda Lambert and Thomas Rhett.

Out now: Digital-only expanded edition of Sting’s 'Ten Summoner’s Tales' for 30th Anniversary

A&M/UMe celebrates the 30th-anniversary of Sting’s fourth solo album, Ten Summoner’s Tales, with a digital-only Expanded Edition, out now. Originally released on March 1, 1993, the album title is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek mashup of the artist’s given surname, Sumner, and a character in Geoffrey Chaucer’s 15th-century literary classic The Canterbury Tales, the summoner.

The 27-track Expanded Edition features the original 12-song Ten Summoner’s Tales album plus 15 bonus tracks consisting of B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and live performances (complete track listing included below). Eleven of these 15 bonus tracks were previously unavailable for digital download or streaming. Mixed by 4-time Grammy Award winning Robert “Hitmixer” Orton, the album is also available in Dolby Atmos. Listen to or purchase Sting’s Ten Summoner’s Tales – Expanded Edition HERE.

Produced by Sting and Hugh Padgham, Ten Summoner’s Tales was recorded at Lake House in Wiltshire, England, an Elizabethan country house that added to the recording’s overall atmosphere. It is also the second time longtime collaborator/guitarist Dominic Miller appeared on one of Sting’s albums. Other notable topline creative contributors to Ten Summoner’s Tales include returning keyboardist David Sancious, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, and pedal-steel guitarist Paul Franklin. For his part, Sting played bass, double bass, harmonica, and saxophone on Ten Summoner’s Tales, creating the arrangements and singing all of the album’s lead vocals.

Ten Summoner’s Tales has been certified 3x platinum by the RIAA, topped the album charts in Australia, and peaked at No. 21 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The album’s aforementioned lead single, “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You,” had a clear chart impact upon its release, ultimately reaching No. 17 on the U.S. Hot 100 and hitting No. 1 in Canada. It also garnered a trio of Grammy nominations in 1994, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and earned Sting a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male. The album’s next single, “Fields Of Gold,” climbed to No. 2 on Adult Contemporary, No. 23 on the Hot 100, No. 24 on Mainstream Rock, and No. 24 on Mainstream Top 40. It was also bestowed with a BMI Pop Song Award in 1994. The album’s other four singles were “Seven Days,” “Shape Of My Heart,” “Love Is Stronger Than Justice (The Munificent Seven),” and “Nothing ’Bout Me.”

In the U.S., Ten Summoner’s Tales garnered six Grammy nominations in 1994, including Album of the Year. Ten Summoner’s Tales won three Grammys: one for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical; one for Best Music Video, Long Form; and one for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male (for “If I Ever Lose My Faith In You”). In the UK, Ten Summoner’s Tales was nominated for three BPI Brit Awards, including Best British Album and Best British Video. Sting won the Brit Award for Best British Male Artist as a performer. Ten Summoner’s Tales was also nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 1993.

Celebrating David Bowie tour returns with new dates, Peter Murphy in tow

Celebrating David Bowie has announced a U.S. tour that begins in April and runs into May.

Peter Murphy will appear on all dates joining Adrian Belew (Bowie, NIN, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Talking Heads), Spacehog’s Royston Langdon, guitarist Eric Schermerhorn (Bowie, Iggy Pop, Seal), saxophonist Ron Dziubla (Jon Batiste, Joe Bonamassa), bassist Matt McJunkins (Puscifer, A Perfect Circle), drummer Jeff Friedl (Devo, A Perfect Circle) and tour producer Scrote (aka Angelo Bundini).

They will interpret Bowie’s greatest hits with a special emphasis on the Ziggy Stardust, Berlin trilogy and later Trent Reznor-infused years. Tickets for City National Grove of Anaheim are available via Ticketmaster Friday, February 24, at 12PM.

Peter Murphy shares, “Such a surprise to be invited to celebrate Bowie in this outing, and alongside a great line up. So enticing to play the part." "With such a large catalog to choose from, different songs affect us and the audience in varying measure,” offers Adrian Belew. “It's always amazing to feel the excitement of a Bowie audience beaming directly at you. An interview with Tim Burgess of The Charlatans

When The Charlatans were planning a tour of American and the idea to perform an entire album came up, Between 10th and 11th was a logical choice.

In addition to serving as a belated 30th Anniversary, the cross-country trek also celebrates one of the British alt-rock band’s more successful studio releases here.

“This is the first time we’ve ever done it in its entirety” for multiple concerts, confirmed singer Tim Burgess, in an interview from New York City.

The group concludes a co-headlining jaunt with fellow countrymen Ride (playing 1990 debut album Nowhere) on Feb. 17 in Los Angeles.

Having not played The States with The Charlatans for 4½ years, Burgess said “the loyalty of the fans who come to watch us has always been really pleasing.” His most memorable U.S. shows include the band’s initial visits to New York City nightclubs The Marquee and The Limelight. “I also remember our first time in Los Angeles, being met by Ian Astbury” to perform in Orange County for The Cult front man’s 1990 festival The Gathering of the Tribes (a precursor to Lollapalooza).

In the past, The Charlatans – comprised of Burgess, guitarist Mark Collins, bassist Martin Blunt and keyboardist Tony Rogers – tended to play just a few tunes off their sophomore effort. One that almost always made the cut on American setlists was “Weirdo,” which topped Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Led by the late Rob Collins’ spirited Hammond organ work and nestled alongside Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers on alternative radio playlists, “Weirdo” didn’t sound like anything else around in 1992. “You’re absolutely right,” said Burgess with a laugh, after being reminded of the fact.

He recalled how The Charlatans’ record label wanted them to do a second “Weirdo” music video with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” director Samuel Bayer and “we were like, ‘Why not?’”

While rehearsing for the current tour, the group rediscovered some sonic nuances within the Between 10th and 11th material. “There are a couple songs where we wondered, ‘Why did we go from that chord to that chord?’ or ‘How did we do that?’”

The Charlatans formed in Northwich, Cheshire, England during the late ‘80s – right as the indie dance-inspired Madchester music scene in neighboring Manchester saw Stone Roses and Happy Mondays leading the charge.

“They were trailblazers,” said Burgess. “We came a little bit after. There was a whole wave of exciting music, from Manchester, Scotland, London, and Liverpool. It was like a cultural shift. Just massive excitement about music.

“Leading up to it was this [groundswell] of dance music,” he continued. “Everyone was tuning into music from Chicago and Detroit. That felt like a music revolution. I’d missed the punk revolution by a couple years. I was too young.” Burgess revered post-punk bands with attitude like The Fall. The new alternative dance music adopted that stance with a nod to the 1960s pop revolution.

The singer used to follow New Order around on tour and often hung out at the Mancunian quartet’s nightclub The Hacienda, a de facto center of the burgeoning scene. “I was really obsessed with music between 16 and 21. At that age, it’s so intoxicating, isn’t it? You want to grab hold of everything. You want to breathe everything in.”

Alluring debut Charlatans album Some Friendly emerged in 1990 and reached the pole position at home on the back of top 10 pop singles “The Only One I Know” and “Then.” Those songs also became top 5 hits at American alt-rock radio; “White Shirt” and “Sproston Green” were top 30 at the format too.

A distinct groove-based element to The Charlatans’ sound helped them stand apart from other Madchester bands. “Rob was really into Hammond organ” and nothing else really, Burgess said, with it “being the lead instrument” plus “a very James Brown drumbeat.”

For the follow up, The Charlatans enlisted Flood to produce. Burgess called the creation of Between 10th and 11th (named after the location of their first NYC nightclub gig) “a strange experience” because the bulk of it was written in the studio.

“Flood was an amazing producer. He had just been working with U2 on Achtung Baby and Depeche Mode on Violator. We were in really good hands and came up with an electronic [influenced] record. We tried hard to make it different from the first album. After that, we were allowed to do whatever we wanted. It is a strong record, but very different to a lot of the other stuff we do.”

English fans gave Between 10th and 11th a lukewarm reception. “It was considered an anti-climax there after Some Friendly, but people in America really liked the dark side of us,” said Burgess.

Four years later, The Charlatans opened for Oasis at Knebworth Festival in England. Attendance for the infamous August 1996 event was 250,000 over two days. What was the experience like to play such a gig alongside the Gallagher Brothers, Manic Street Preachers, Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy and Kula Shaker relatively early in their career?

“It was an amazing thing,” recalled Burgess. “Oasis achieved this huge [success] and they wanted to make an event that would be remembered forever. It was really mixed for the Charlatans because Rob Collins had died in a car crash a few weeks before. We were coming to terms with that and trying to rehearse with [keyboardist] Martin Duffy from Primal Scream. We were in a weird bubble. When we got there, we just thought, ‘if we can get through this show, then we might have a future.’ We played like our lives depended on it and it did.”

The Charlatans (“UK” was added to the band name on early U.S. releases due to a Sixties rock act from San Francisco with the same moniker) rebounded emotionally and commercially later in the ‘90s and early ‘00s. An eponymous effort, Tellin’ Stories, Us and Us Only and Wonderland all attained gold or platinum status, hit the top 3 and spawned another eight top 20 singles in England.

More recently, the band’s enchanting 2017 album Different Days sported guest appearances by Johnny Marr, Paul Weller, Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert of New Order and Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe. It brought The Charlatans back into the UK top 5. The retrospective A Head Full of Ideas arrived in 2021.

They are currently working on new material.

“We want the next record to be great, so we’ll take our time. We’ve gone to studios and done a few songs.” The singer brushed up on his guitar playing skills during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

Does he plan to lobby Mark for some guitar spotlights when they record again in earnest? “Yeah, I’m sure I’ll nudge him out of the way with a Flying V” [guitar].

Burgess chalks The Charlatans’ longevity up to being resilient after the deaths of Rob Collins (“the most gifted member of the band” whose loss “brought us all closer together”) and original drummer Jon Brookes from cancer in 2013. He also attributes their nearly 35-year-career to constant ambition, wanting “to reach more people, tour more places and keep going back to places we love.”

Last September, Burgess put out sixth solo effort Typical Music. Multi-instrumentalists Thighpaulsandra (Spiritualized, Julian Cope) and Daniel O’Sullivan returned to work with him on the eclectic 22-track album, which ranges from chamber pop and psychedelia to surf rock, electronica and beyond. The sonic template encompasses loops, tabla, Mellotron, sax, a string section, and various other effects.

“I’ve always wanted to do a [traditional] double album, but I was nervous about it,” Burgess admitted. “I’m hoping people can dip in and out of it.” He likes making incongruous sounds and sought to emphasize solo violin (courtesy Helen O’Hara from Dexy’s Midnight Runners).

Many music fans first discovered Burgess as host of Tim’s Twitter Listening Party. Initially it was an occasional event revolving around Charlatans albums and started in 2011. The Party went supernova due to the worldwide COVID-19 lockdowns in late March 2020.

The singer began scheduling two or three albums to be played. The musicians and associates involved tweeted background tidbits and photos (Alex Kapranos and his band Franz Ferdinand’s debut album was part of the first lineup). Then Twitter participants all pressed “play” at the same time using their preferred album format (sometimes precipitating a pause for those turning over an LP side) and commented.

Burgess was pleasantly surprised by the parties’ quick popularity. “It made me realize how much people wanted and needed them. I don’t like to blow my own trumpet, but people say, ‘The Listening Party saved me, got me through [or] was the best thing that happened during lockdown’ all the time. They meant so much to people and you could see the reason why they were taken up by artists because they wanted to do something to help. They were all so generous with their time.

“Everyone could see how it evolved naturally, organically,” he continued. “Everyone could see we were all trying to come together as a music community to help people to have some type of enjoyment…Just the idea that Kevin Godley [10CC], Steven Morris, Gary Kemp [Spandau Ballet] or Run the Jewels would be tweeting along to their records to help people get through and have some enjoyment in lockdown during very dark times was a wonderful thing.”

Crazy Horse finds 'All Roads Lead to Home' in March

Crazy Horse was formed in the late 1960s with Ralph Molina, Billy Talbot and Danny Whitten, who had started playing with Neil Young. Now the band is releasing ALL ROADS LEAD HOME on March 31.

Molina, Talbot and Nils Lofgren recorded original songs, each with other musicians and in various locations, during the pandemic years. They were forced to change from working as a trio with Neil Young, and used that opportunity to see what their new individual configurations would lead to. The three Crazy Horse members each recorded three songs apart and with different musicians.

Neil Young also includes "Song Of the Seasons,” a live solo version of the song from the album BARN with Crazy Horse, as a sign of solidarity with the band of brothers he has shared the stage and studio with since 1969.

ALL ROADS LEAD HOME will be released on March 31 on vinyl and CD via The Greedy Hand Store at Neil Young Archives (NYA) and music retailers everywhere. It will also be available on hi-res audio at Neil Young Archives and most DSPs.

'Stoned Cold Country, a country music tribute album to the Rolling Stones, is due next month

Produced by Robert Deaton, Stoned Cold Country, a country tribute album to the Rolling Stones, is set for release on March 17 through BMG. Pre-save and pre-add the album HERE. First single is Lainey Wilson’s spin on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” available now everywhere; listen HERE

"The Rolling Stones are global music icons. To have the opportunity to record one of their tracks was an incredible honor for me," Wilson said. "I had so much fun recording this track and I'm so grateful that I got to bring my bell bottom country flare to one of their greatest hits."

Long fascinated by the Stones, and specifically their Country roots, Deaton spent the past several years on a specific mission: namely to shine a light on the Stones’ influence not only on Country music at large, but more specifically on some of its most convention-busting contemporary artists.

The result became Stoned Cold Country – “A love letter to The Rolling Stones from Nashville,” in Deaton’s own words – and a toast to not only one of the best bands to ever do it, but specifically to their supreme influence on the past and present world of Country music.

The album features Jimmie Allen, Brooks & Dunn, Brothers Osborne, Eric Church, Steve Earle, Elle King, Marcus King, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Shane, Koe Wetzel, The War And Treaty, Lainey Wilson & Zac Brown Band.

"This album is Country Music's thank you to The Rolling Stones for 60 years of inspiration and providing the soundtrack of our lives. While recording the record, I was reminded that this is a showcase and spotlight on the best we have to offer as a genre,” Deaton says of the Stoned Cold Country. “From our artists to all of the musicians that played on the record, we boldly state that Country Music is second to none when it comes to artists of integrity and creativity.”

Track list:

1. “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” – Ashley McBryde
2. “Honky Tonk Women” – Brooks & Dunn
3. “Dead Flowers” – Maren Morris
4. “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It)” – Brothers Osborne & The War And Treaty
5. “Miss You” – Jimmie Allen
6. “Tumbling Dice” – Elle King
7. “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” – Marcus King
8. “Wild Horses” – Little Big Town

Record Store Day April 2023 News: Romeo Void, U2

Romeo Void
, a breakout band of the San Francisco new wave scene of the early 1980s, shares details of their first fully authorized concert release. Live from Mabuhay Gardens: November 14, 1980, is an official Record Store Day selection, arriving in stores April 22. The 11-track album will be available in a special galaxy-blue colored vinyl edition, as well as CD and digital.
All formats are released by Liberation Hall with distribution by MVD Entertainment Group.

Romeo Void was formed in 1979. Drawing inspiration from the local underground music scene, the band’s founding members were San Francisco Art Institute students Debora Iyall (lead vocalist, lyricist) and Frank Zincavage (bass guitar), alongside local musicians Peter Woods (guitar) and Jay Derrah (drums). They soon added saxophonist Benjamin Bossi. According to Iyall, the name Romeo Void referred to “a lack of romance.”

Live from Mabuhay Gardens: November 14, 1980, was captured during the same period that Romeo Void was recording its critically acclaimed debut album for 415 Records, It’s a Condition. Derrah was still drumming with the band at this live show, but was replaced by John “Stench” Haines by the time the sessions for It’s a Condition were underway.

Live from Mabuhay Gardens: November 14, 1980, features one of three Romeo Void live sets captured that year at the famed punk club by deejay Terry Hammer, who would typically broadcast portions of his recordings on the UC-Berkeley radio station KALX.

Eight of the eleven songs on Live from Mabuhay Gardens: November 14, 1980, would eventually appear on It’s a Condition. The opening track, “Guards,” would surface in 1981 as the B-side of the band’s national breakout single, “Never Say Never.” “Fine Line” is an original that has never been released in any format. The album’s closing number, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” is a cover of the Swingin’ Medallions’ 1966 hit, which was the first 7-inch single which Iyall owned.

“There were all of these young people hungry for new sounds,” Iyall recalls of the period. “Punk rock had recently broken through and the rulebook was being rewritten by bands as diverse as X-Ray Spex, Television, and Suicide. In San Francisco, we all started buying 7-inch vinyl again, a format I had abandoned a decade earlier. Our goal was to make art. The thought of becoming rock stars was not on our radar.”

The first single from Live from Mabuhay Gardens: November 14, 1980, is available now on digital music services: “Charred Remains.” Liner notes for the release were written by San Francisco punk archivist Jack Johnston.

Romeo Void soon came to national prominence in 1982 when the fledgling MTV Network picked up on the band’s “Never Say Never” video and put it in heavy rotation. Two years later, the group’s biggest chart hit, “A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing),” from the album Instincts, reached #35 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Benjamin Bossi, the saxophonist who appeared on all the band’s recorded works, died on December 13, 2022, of complications from early onset Alzheimer’s disease. “Through his deep love of jazz, Benjamin had a knowledge of musical structure, keys and chords, that we didn’t have,” remembered Iyall. “His wanting to play with Frank, Peter and I was a huge vote of confidence at the start of Romeo Void. If he hadn’t developed tinnitus in the late 1980s, the world would have heard a lot more incredible music from him.”

Track Listing:

1. Guards'
2. Nothing for Me
3. Confrontation
4. Fine Line
5. Charred Remains
6. Drop Your Eyes
7. Love Is an Illness
8. White Sweater
9. Talk Dirty to Me
10. Fear to Fear
11. Double Shot of My Baby’s Love
