Declan McKenna news

Declan McKenna recently did a Late Show With Stephen Colbert #PlayAtHome performance of current single “The Key To Life On Earth.” He first appeared on Colbert in 2016 when he was 17, and the special “social distanced” version of the song was co-directed by the artist and Luke Cutforth. Watch it here.

McKenna’s second album Zeros will be released on Aug. 21. It was produced by Jay Joyce with mixing by Spike Stent and recorded in Nashville - the follow up to critically acclaimed 2017 debut What Do You Think About The Car?

“In terms of my artistic development, it feels a major step on from my first record. With this album, if I’m performing as a character, I wanted it to give it everything - all the artists that I love like Dylan, Nick Cave or Bowie, are great storytellers because they give their characters really intense, sometimes strange voices,” he says.

The official music video for “The Key To Life On Earth” was directed by Will Hooper and features actor Alex Lawther (Netflix’s The End Of The F***Ing World & Black Mirror). Watch the music for “The Key To Life On Earth” here.

For Zeros, 21-year-old McKenna decamped from his native London to Nashville, wanting to be away from the familiarity and consistency of home. He wrote all the music for the album himself and was backed on it by his long-time band.
