Neil Finn taps some Fleetwood Mac mates for charity single

As the Auckland City Mission marks its centenary, it has received a special gift from one of its favourite sons. New Zealand musician Neil Finn is donating a song to the building of HomeGround – the Mission’s most ambitious project yet.

He created the song - ‘Find Your Way Back Home’ - to help raise funds and awareness for the purpose-built housing and social services facility in Auckland. The single ‘Find Your Way Back Home’ is available now on Spotify and Apple Music at https://NeilFinn.lnk.to/FindYourWay

“I was honoured to be asked to write a song to support the fundraising for this amazing new building that will create a path for many of our people to find their way back home. I was so grateful to have the talent and support of my Fleetwood Mac bandmates Stevie, Christine and Mike along with my son Elroy and fellow Kiwi singer Georgia Knott to help me make this recording,” says Neil.

“I have always been aware of how important the City Mission is in our community representing and supporting every day the homeless people of Auckland,” says Neil. “Now more than ever, as we shelter in place I am reminded that everyone deserves to have a home where they can feel safe and be well.”

Stevie Nicks says “I'm honoured to be a part of Neil's song for the Auckland City Mission. He is on a mission to make this work and I think this beautiful song he has written will certainly help.”

The accompanying video tells the story of different life journeys and different realities of what home can be. It features a range of Aucklanders, each with their own untold story of what home means to them – some who have experienced homelessness, some who have not.

City Missioner Chris Farrelly says he’s in awe of the Finn family’s generosity. “We are incredibly grateful for this very special gift. It seems fitting, in our centenary, to be given a song about the meaning of home. In the last 100 years, the Mission has evolved over time to meet the changing needs of Aucklanders, but what has been a constant is that we always help people in their life journey. We support people to, metaphorically and often literally, do what Neil sings about - to ‘find their way back home’.”

Proceeds from downloads of the track will go to Auckland City Mission’s HomeGround project.

The release of ‘Find Your Way Back Home’ coincided with the Auckland City Mission’s centenary on June 6th. Over the last 100 years, the Mission has evolved as society’s needs have evolved – from supporting families after WWI through to the current day supporting people who are experiencing homelessness, living in poverty or suffering physical or mental health issues. As the Mission looks forward to our new century, we are setting up for the future with our new precinct in Hobson Street. HomeGround will feature apartments for the homeless, community spaces, a public café, a public pharmacy, a detox centre, and many other facilities.
