Country music veteran Charley Pride is celebrating 50 years in the recording industry as he announces upcoming North American tour dates throughout 2016.

At tour stops, the 36x country chart topper will perform many of his biggest hits, including those that helped him win the Country Music Association’s “Entertainer of the Year” award in 1971. The show also broadcasts on 650AM / WSM The Legend, or country enthusiasts can listen in live at Opry.com.

"I feel blessed that I'm still going strong after 50 years" says Pride. "I've always loved to sing for audiences and that's never going to change. It's been a joy to visit so many different places in the US over the years. And, of course, I always enjoy travelling Canada. The people of Canada have been wonderful to me going back to the very start of my career."

Peter Case tour dates

Peter Case, former member of the Nerves and Plimsouls, continues to promote his 13th solo album, Hwy 62, an inside look at life along the road where Case was born, a road also travelled by truth singers Phil Ochs and Woody Guthrie.

"I think the new songs are taking the audience by surprise," says Case. "I don't know if they've heard songs about issues that were so personal, that sound like someone is talking directly to them."

For 30 years, Case has penned topical songs, from the homeless vet in "Poor Old Tom" to the young man on the run in "Entella Hotel" and the misfortune of the elderly woman in "Underneath The Stars."

Hwy 62 kicks up Case's artistry another notch with its vivid storytelling and up-to-the-minute insights in songs like the hard-swinging "Pelican Bay," the anthemic, "All Dressed Up For Trial," and the sonorous, "Water From A Stone."

Special guests Ben Harper on guitar and DJ Bonebrake on drums support Case's voice that moves listeners toward deeper listening, inspiring even his fellow artists. "Novels in song," said composer Van Dyke Parks in a tweet sent to Pete on the occasion of his birthday, April 5.

"You have to beat the bushes, get the word out to everyone and take the message to the people," says Case.

Neil Young news

Neil Young will release a new album, entitled Earth, on June 17 via Reprise Records. The album features performances of songs from a range of Young's albums, including last year's The Monsanto Years, 1990's Ragged Glory, and 1970's After the Gold Rush.

The audio was captured during Young's 2015 tour with The Promise of the Real, fronted by Lukas Nelson (vocals/guitar) and Micah Nelson (guitar, vocals) - Willie Nelson's sons. The tour included Young performing solo and with the band for a full electric show.

A new take on some of Young's most beloved songs, it features the live recordings, along with added musical overdubs, as well as sounds of the earth, such as city sounds like car horns, sounds of insects, and animal sounds from bears, birds, crickets, bees, horses, cows - creating a very strange, yet beautiful atmosphere.

"Ninety-eight uninterrupted minutes long, '
Earth' flows as a collection of 13 songs from throughout my life, songs I have written about living here on our planet together,"
says Young. "Our animal kingdom is well represented in the audience as well, and the animals, insects, birds, and mammals actually take over the performances of the songs at times."

On May 6, in Los Angeles between 7-9 p.m., The Natural History Museum Los Angeles County  will present "An Evening With Neil Young", as part of their "First Fridays" event series. "First Fridays" is a monthly event at the Natural History Museum that includes live music, DJ sets, and scientific discussions/presentations.

For this event, Young will present the first public playback of his upcoming release, Earth, in its entirety in Pono high definition fidelity audio. Young will deliver the opening portion of the program with his insights and explanation of the making of EARTH, and its contents. This will be the first-ever public album preview by Young in his career and the first event of its kind for NHM.

For tickets and further details, go to: "First Fridays".

Coming out one week prior on June 10 are two rare films - the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic musical comedy Human Highway and the concert feature Rust Never Sleeps- for the first time on DVD and Blu Ray via Reprise Records.

Neither film has been available in years. Human Highway is Young's 1982 comedy starring Russ Tamblyn, Charlotte Stewart, Dean Stockwell, Dennis Hopper, and Devo, which has been digitally restored for the DVD and Blu Ray release. Rust Never Sleeps isthe full-length feature about Young's 1978 concert tour and includes such classic young Young's most popular songs, showcasing classic hits such as "I Am a Child," featuring Crazy Horse, "Cinnamon Girl," "Like A Hurricane" and both the acoustic and electric versions of his landmark song "Hey Hey, My My." Both are currently available for pre-order through Neil Young Store and Amazon.com. Special bundles are available exclusively through Neil Young Store only.

Stagecoach Festival 2016 preview: Dustin Lynch, Old Dominion, Rodney Crowell

The 10th annual Stagecoach – California’s Country Music Festival boasts another high octane lineup. All the headliners have served that duty in the past. Eric Church (whose “Mr. Misunderstood” was among the best country albums last year) battled heavy winds onstage in 2014; the same year Luke Bryan closed the proceedings. Carrie Underwood’s last appearance at Empire Polo Field in Indio (just outside of Palm Springs) was 2011.

While similar music events around America have either gone on hiatus or fallen by the wayside, Stagecoach is still going strong, drawing a varied mix of concertgoers that ranges from children to grandparents.

For those who need a break from listening to the 77 acts and DJs on four stages, attractions include the Honky Tonk Dance Hall, Half-Pint Hootenanny (for the kids), Toyota Thrill Ride & Drive and the always popular BBQ Championships (Texas style, chili).

Beyond the big names, Stagecoach will welcome respected old timers (Billy Joe Shaver, Johnny Lee), young bucks (Sam Hunt, Chris Young), rising newcomers (The Deslondes, RaeLynn), old school rockers (John Fogerty, Doobie Brothers, Marshall Tucker Band) and more.

Read on for my “can’t miss” recommendations…

APRIL 29

Eric Paslay
Latest album: “Eric Paslay” (EMI Nashville)
Best known songs:  “Friday Night,” “She Don’t Love You,” “Song About a Girl”
Backstory: When Paslay played the Shipkicker Festival in Long Beach, Calif. last year, he nearly stole the show with strong renditions of songs from his solid self-titled debut, as well as Tom Petty and Stones covers. The Texas native has a stellar resume, having co-penned #1 hits for Eli Young Band, Jake Owen, Love & Theft and Rascal Flatts. His words have also graced releases by Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes and Charles Kelley (“The Driver,” also featuring Dierks Bentley). Paslay’s second album “Dressed in Black,” featuring recent single “High Class,” is due this summer.

Kristian Bush
Latest album: “Southern Gravity” (Streamsound)
Best known song: “Trailer Hitch”
Backstory: Jennifer Nettles gets the lion’s share of attention in Sugarland, but her musical partner Bush co-wrote, sang and played on most of their hits. Before that, he landed some minor Adult Alternative radio hits with folk/rock duo Billy Pilgrim. The singer/guitarist exudes a laid-back and playful country/rock sound on his earthy 2015 debut album, with assists from brother Brandon (Train) on piano and Travis McNabb (Sugarland, Better Than Ezra) on drums. Currently, Bush is working on a follow-up effort and can be heard singing the theme song to TLC reality show “Say Yes to the Dress.”

Marty Stuart
Latest album: “Saturday Night/Sunday Morning” (Superlatone/Thirty Tigers)
Best known songs: “Hillbilly Rock,” “Little Things,” “Tempted,” “Burn Me Down”
Backstory: The five-time Grammy winner and accomplished photographer cut his musical teeth as a member of bluegrass master Lester Flatt’s band while still a teenager. During the early ‘80s, Stuart backed Johnny Cash on tour. His solo career really took off in the ‘90s with nine top 20 country singles. Two of those (“The Whiskey Ain’t Workin,’” “This One’s Gonna Hurt You”) were duets with Travis Tritt. In 2008, The Marty Stuart Show, a musical variety program on RFD-TV in the vein of Hee-Haw, was launched. “Saturday Night/Sunday Morning,” 2014’s double disc set with longtime backing group The Fabulous Superlatives, features Hank Williams, Bill Monroe and George Jones covers, traditional country numbers and honky tonk originals. Spiritual selections make up the second disc. Guests include Mavis Staples and Tommy Emmanuel.

Also noteworthy: Emmylou Harris

APRIL 30

Sam Palladio
Latest album: “The Music of Nashville: Original Soundtrack, Season 4, Vol. 1” (Big Machine)
Best known songs: “If I Didn’t Know Better,” “Fade into You” (with Clare Bowen)
Backstory:  The British actor/singer used to front the band Salt Water Thief and was in the West End musical Dreamboats and Petticoats. He started portraying aspiring musician Gunnar Scott on “Nashville” when the ABC-TV drama debuted in 2012. Alongside Clare Bowen as off-and-on girlfriend Scarlett O’Connor in fictional duo The Exes, their songs smolder with sensuality, often recalling The Civil Wars. A James Taylor fan, Palladio got a tweet of approval from the man himself when a show episode earlier this month gave a shout out.

Lee Ann Womack
Latest album: “The Way I’m Livin’” (Sugar Hill)
Best known songs: “I Hope You Dance,” “A Little Past Little Rock,” “The Fool,” “Ashes By Now,” “I May Hate Myself in the Morning”
Backstory: Since starting her career in the late ‘90s, Womack has amassed a pair of gold and platinum albums, nearly a dozen top 20 country singles and multiple awards (two well-deserved CMAs were for 2005’s “There’s More Where That Came From”). With a traditional country sound that has occasionally veered into pop, she’s been compared to Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. On 2014’s “The Way I’m Livin’” – Womack’s first effort in six years – her song choices often contain spiritual-tinged lyrics, comforting arrangements and a solid take on Neil Young’s “Harvest” nugget, “Out on the Weekend.”

Rodney Crowell
Latest album: “Tarpaper Sky” (New West)
Best known songs: “I Couldn’t Leave You If I Tried,” “After All This Time,” “Above and Beyond,” “She’s Crazy for Leaving,” “If Looks Could Kill,” “Shame on the Moon”
Backstory:  If someone did a Six Degrees of Separation game using Crowell, he’d connect with several Stagecoach acts. He first gained prominence during the mid-1970s as part of Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band; then the singer/guitarist launched a solo career and married Roseanne Cash. 1988’s Grammy-winning “Diamonds & Dirt” spawned five No. 1 country singles. Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Bob Seger, Womack and countless others have all had major success with Crowell tunes. A creative streak that began in 2011 with the memoir “Chinaberry Sidewalks” was followed by four more albums (two with Harris). Vince Gill and Chely Wright provide harmonies on “Tarpaper Sky.”

Also noteworthy: Sam Outlaw, John Fogerty

MAY 1

Dustin Lynch
Latest album: “Where It’s At” (Broken Bow)
Best known songs: “Cowboys and Angels,” “Where It’s At,” “Hell of a Night”
Backstory:  The first time I saw Lynch live was opening for Keith Urban at the Hollywood Bowl. He had no trouble working that large stage like a pro. Lynch went on to open for Luke Bryan and Little Big Town. His fun sets usually give a tip of the cowboy hat to influences; both expected (Garth Brooks) and unpredictable (The Weeknd).

Old Dominion
Latest album: “Meat and Candy” (RCA)
Best known song: “Break Up With Him,” “Snapback”
Backstory:  With ties to Virginia, Old Dominion members have co-written songs for The Band Perry, Tyler Farr, Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney and others. They opened for the latter on a stadium tour last year and put out an impressively catchy debut album.

A Thousand Horses
Latest album: “Southernality” (Republic Nashville)
Best known song: “Smoke”
Backstory:  Although the band emerged with its eponymous major label debut CD in 2010, it didn’t gain much traction. Five years later, they returned with a winsome Black Crowes-meets-Tom Petty-and-Oasis-type sound and found favor at country radio for the Dave Cobb-produced “Southernality.” They’ve toured with Darius Rucker and Greg Allman.

Also noteworthy: Johnny Lee, The Doobie Brothers

Comprehensive Sinatra TV/concert performance collection coming

Continuing the worldwide centennial celebration for Frank Sinatra, on May 27, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release a suite of four titles in ‘The Frank Sinatra Collection.’

On license from Frank Sinatra Enterprises (FSE), the definitive collection pulls together some of the finest performances on television and in concert from the greatest entertainer of the 20th century.

First in the series is ‘A Man And His Music’ / ‘A Man And His Music Part II,’ which combines his first two hour-long television specials from the mid-sixties.

Sinatra's first television special, A Man And His Music, broadcast in 1965 on NBC to commemorate Sinatra's 50th birthday. The spectacular performances include favorites "I've Got You Under My Skin," "I Get A Kick Out Of You," "Come Fly With Me" and "The Lady Is A Tramp."

A Man And His Music Part II, with special guest Nancy Sinatra (1966, CBS), thrills from start to finish, with unforgettable performances of signature songs such as "Luck Be A Lady" and "That's Life." Sinatra opens the show with his celebrated Quincy Jones arrangement of "Fly Me To The Moon." Nancy Sinatra, clad from head to toe in pink fringe (and signature boots), sings "Bang, Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" and "On Broadway," followed by a series of duets with her father that includes "Downtown," and "These Boots Are Made For Walking."

Second in the series comes ‘A Man And His Music + Ella + Jobim’ / ‘Francis Albert Sinatra Does His Thing’ / ‘Sinatra’ which presents three TV specials from the sixties. On the truly memorable A Man And His Music + Ella + Jobim (1967, NBC), the dazzling Ella Fitzgerald performs two equally impressive solo numbers: the haunting "Body And Soul" and the swinging "It's All Right With Me."

Fitzgerald is then joined by Sinatra in a historic pairing of the two preeminent vocal talents of the era. The following sequence, particularly treasured by music lovers, is Sinatra's only filmed meeting with Brazilian composer, guitarist, singer Antonio Carlos Jobim, who joins Sinatra for a stunningly intimate medley of the Brazilian composer's classics, including "Change Partners," "I Concentrate On You" and "The Girl From Ipanema."

Francis Albert Sinatra Does His Thing (1968, CBS) was a memorable night of television on many levels. Having established himself in American households with his previous A Man And His Music specials, Sinatra made a bold move in 1968, in the middle of the civil rights era, with a special celebration of black music and its impact on American popular culture. Highlights include a medley of spirituals sung with Diahann Carroll and a swingin' pop interlude with chart-toppers The 5th Dimension.

In Sinatra (1969, CBS), the final installment in what had become an annual tradition of televised specials, Sinatra casts a backward glance at some of the highlights of a storied career. He also provides a glimpse into his musical future with an early rendition of "My Way," soon to become his personal anthem.

This collection gathers many classic Sinatra performances including: “Ol’ Man River,” “The Lady Is A Tramp,” “Pennies From Heaven,” “Something,” “I Get A Kick Out Of You,” “Theme From New York, New York,” and many more.

The third release, ‘Sinatra And Friends’ / ‘The Man And His Music’ features TV specials from the seventies and eighties and offers the likes of “For Once In My Life,” ”My Way,” “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Night And Day,” “Put Your Dreams Away,” and more.

Spanning multiple genres and featuring some of the leading names in pop and country, the rarely seen special Sinatra And Friends (1977, ABC) offers wall-to-wall performances. Guests include Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Loretta Lynn and John Denver, all of whom return one-by-one for a final embrace with Sinatra as he sings the Paul Anka-penned "Everybody Ought To Be In Love."

Sinatra: The Man And His Music (1981, NBC), is the final installment of the series, occurring 16 years after the first A Man And His Music special, and a few weeks before his 66th birthday. Working with three different ensembles, including the accompaniment of the legendary Count Basie and his orchestra, performances include George Harrison's "Something," and his climactic "Theme From New York, New York", "Pennies From Heaven," and "The Best Is Yet To Come."

Concert For The Americas (1982, Showtime) was recorded at the Altos de ChavĂłn Amphitheater, a 5000-seat open-air Greek-style amphitheater in the Dominican Republic. This 90-minute epic performance features the legendary Buddy Rich on drums and a special guest appearance by guitarist Tony Mottola on a memorable rendition of "Send In The Clowns." This is the first-ever U.S. DVD release of this concert.

In the candid interview, Ness touches on a wide range of topics from how he found his "groove" to rebelling through the music of his band, Social Distortion. The interview digs deep into Ness' songwriting process.

"The pursuit of finding one's tone can be a long and delicate process; I am lucky to have found mine," says Ness. "The intimacy and the freedom that playing guitar has provided for me, the voice it's given to me, is a gift that I don't take for granted."

See the trailer for AT&T AUDIENCE Network's "Ernie Ball: The Pursuit of Tone 'Mike Ness'" (HERE).

AT&T AUDIENCE Network's new music slate continues to deliver groundbreaking concerts, in-depth artist interviews, unique stories and exclusive performances across all genres, plus some select programming in ultra high-definition/4K* to audiences nationwide since multiple series began airing this past January.

Recent concert specials include: CeeLo Green, Hank Williams Jr., Peter Frampton, Lukas Graham, Kelsea Ballerini, Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco, Flo Rida, Cypress Hill, 2 Chainz, Aubrie Sellers, LANco, and others. AT&T AUDIENCE Network's multiple series of original and exclusive performances and interviews gives music fans an intimate view of music's most influential artists today by collaborating directly with musicians to create a unique show from their perspective.

As a boy, Mike Ness' heroes were not athletes or presidents; they were gangsters and guitar players. Johnny Cash, the Rolling Stones, Woody Guthrie and Creedence Clearwater Revival marked Ness' early years. He was inspired by the roots of American music and his earliest influences were the pioneers of rock and roll; musicians that were scandalous and rebellious.

By the time Mike was a teen he would be playing in Social Distortion. Over the past 30 years, the punk godfathers Social Distortion have all but trademarked their patented mix of punk, bluesy rock n' roll and outlaw country. Their searing guitars and locomotive rhythm section sounds as alive today as it did in '82, as do Ness' hard-luck tales of love, loss and lessons learned.

But long before he ever heard the Ramones, the Clash or the Sex Pistols, Ness grew up listening to early rock and roll. With uncompromising intensity, Mike brought a working class spirit to his songs. As he matured as a songwriter and musician, his solo recordings Cheating At Solitaire (1999) and Under The Influences (1999), incorporated the raw power and social relevance that has always marked his music, while embracing many of the defining styles in American rock and roll history.

This radical essence would become his calling card but Mike would never lose the love of his roots. The work integrates punk, rockabilly, primitive rock and roll, country and blues while maintaining the energy that typifies Mike Ness.

Mike continues to perform worldwide with Social Distortion. Social Distortion's latest musical offering, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (produced for the first time, by Ness himself), debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 and was the highest debut yet for the band. Hard Times and Nursery Rhymeswas also #1 Independent Album and #2 Modern Rock/Alternative Album.

Coachella '16 news: Phases

LA synth-pop group Phases return to Coachella this weekend.

They just released a new EP - Afterparty - which includes a remix of "I'm In Love With My Life," a cover of Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself," and three unreleased B-sides from their debut album For Life.

Coachella '16 news: Calvin Harris

Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum selling DJ Calvin Harris unveiled his new touring production show at Coachella last Sunday. His landmark headlining slot at the festival on the main stage featured guest spots by Rihanna, Big Sean and John Newman.

Harris repeats the set this coming Sunday at Coachella2.

The show fused stadium scale live show production with DJ worldflow. Using uniquely customized software, Calvin was able to play any track from his record box and still have bespoke programmed lights, video, lasers and sfx.

The visionary design featured the largest concentration of light ever used in any show, so much so that Calvin’s team secured every single Solaris Flare lighting fixture available in the United States.  The show also featured two unique elements specific to Coachella that took months of negotiating with festival owners and production teams to achieve.

Calvin commented “I’m very proud of the new stage show we've put together and couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who stayed out to party last night.”

Paul Macrae, Head of Touring at Three Six Zero shared: “We wanted to deliver an innovative and immersive show that compliments Calvin’s performance. It was very important for him to maintain his DJ workflow rather than playing back a time coded track.  We gave him this flexibility along with pinpoint timing on all lighting and video cues, something rarely achieved.”

Calvin Harris made history as the first DJ to be billed as a premiere headliner at the globally renowned music festival, performing on both Sunday night dates (April 17th and April 24th). The groundbreaking performance was not Harris’s first Coachella performance – in his last in 2014, the festival drew one of the largest crowd’s in Coachella's history.

Harris recently won the iHeartRadio Award for Dance Artist of the Year (2016). The Scottish Producer/DJ recently extended his residency deal at the OMNIA Nightclub at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where he will play Friday night performances on select dates throughout 2016.

Tickets for Calvin Harris’s Las Vegas residency are currently available for purchase for dates through September 2016 by visiting omnianightclub.com.
