Cowboy Junkies news

Admired for the carefully chosen cover versions of songs that have been part of their repertoire from the very beginning, veteran Canadian band Cowboy Junkies will release "Songs of the Recollection" on March 25 on Proper Records. See full track listing and Northeast tour dates below.

This collection features tracks from David Bowie, Neil Young, Gram Parsons, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot, Vic Chesnutt and The Cure.

"Five Years is the opening track to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars...those ominous, persistent drums fade-up, the opening piano chord explodes and Bowie steps into the listeners life. This was the type of moment that turned our innocent minds inside out when we were young and hunkering greedily around the turntable. When we play it live today....50 years after it was written....it seems to have more power and relevance than ever; climate change, the pandemic, collapsing democracies...choose your crisis...David predicted them all." - Cowboy Junkies guitarist Michael Timmins.

Songs of the Recollection follows 2018’s acclaimed studio album All That Reckoning as well as commercial breakthrough The Trinity Sessions (1988), Pale Sun, Crescent Moon (1993), Lay It Down (1996), Open (2001), and At the End of Paths Taken (2007) in reflecting the band’s unique and independent creative journey.
