Twinkids' album 'Nobody Likes Me' due next week

LA-based queer pop duo Twinkids'
debut album Nobody Likes Me arrives April 23 through Om Records.

Comprising Tokyo-born singer/songwriter Jin Fukui and Floridian pianist/producer Matthew Young, they explore anxieties, vulnerabilities, and acceptance as it relates to their identity set to ‘80s-infused pop.

Of latest single “I Know,” the pair says, “We imagined the song as coming to terms with the fact your relationship just isn’t working anymore. You’ve both grown up, and things are different. The common tragedy of being deeply incompatible with a partner you already love. In the verses it’s the things you say to your lover, and maybe to yourself too: I can change, I’ll do better, I’ll be better. And then the chorus of realizing the other shoe has already dropped, knowing it’s already over, soberly, if you really ask yourself.”

After meeting at Oberlin College and Conservatory in northeast Ohio, Matthew and Jin discovered a mutual reverence for electronic music and began writing, producing, and performing together. They went on to study at the renowned Banff Centre in Canada under Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene.

In 2017, Twinkids released their debut EP Boys Love with the EP title paying homage to the gay romance manga genre of the same name. Boys Love features the Spotify hit "Overdressed," which has amassed over 6 million plays.

The following year, the duo garnered attention on Hype Machine with "Jigoku Tengoku" along with a national tour supporting Matt and Kim. In 2019, Twinkids released their sophomore EP Lizard House. They returned in 2020 with "Feeling Small," a single on Kitsuné Musique, and “The Bends,” a collaboration with indietronica artist The Chain Gang of 1974.
