U2 reveal another new song; will perform it Sept. 7 on The Tonight Show

"You’re The Best Thing About Me," the first single from U2’s highly anticipated 14th studio album, Songs of Experience, has just been released. 

Accompanied by exclusive art, the new single features a sleeve image of The Edge’s daughter Sian Evans, photographed by Anton Corbijn.

Songs Of Experience is the companion release to 2014’s Songs Of Innocence, the two titles drawing inspiration from a collection of poems, ‘Songs of Innocence and Experience’, by the 18th century English mystic and poet William Blake. While Songs of Innocence charted the band’s earliest influences and experiences in the late 1970s and early 80s, the new album is a collection of songs in the form of intimate letters to places and people close to the Bono’s heart; family, friends, fans, himself.

In an interview with Jon Pareles of The New York Times, Bono asked, “You’re putting out a song about your girlfriend when the world is on fire?,” anticipating one reaction. “Yes. Joy is an act of defiance.”

The release of "You're The Best Thing About Me" follows last week’s surprise “The Blackout” performance video, another track from the upcoming album.

Songs of Experience will be available on CD, vinyl and digital download on Dec. 1. The Joshua Tree tour continues across North and South America throughout the fall.
