Chaka Khan album news

Chaka Khan's recent single ‘Like Sugar’ was initially launched as a limited edition release for Record Store Day 2018 and had a full release last summer. The accompanying Kim Gehrig-directed video won twice at the UK Music Video Awards, while The Queen of Funk's appeared live at Bestival and the Pitchfork Music Festival.

Now the 10-time Grammy Award announces her new album ‘Hello Happiness’ will be released on Feb. 15 via Diary Records/Island Records, the new label formed by Major Lazer founder and Grammy-nominated producer Switch with artist/songwriter Sarah Ruba Taylor. This is Khan's first studio set since 2007’s ‘Funk This’.

The title track is also the new single. It is accompanied by an official video that was directed by Sam Pilling (The Weeknd, Run The Jewels, Major Lazer). It depicts a series of characters whose true intentions are revealed as their individual stories gradually merge into a plot in which they’re all interconnected. Filmed in Los Angeles, its grainy, washed out palette recalls some of the classic ‘70s movies.

Khan first collaborated with
‘Hello Happiness’ producer Switch as a potential featured artist on a different project. Inspired by the power of both her voice and personality, Switch and Taylor suggested working on an original Chaka Khan album - something which she didn’t have in mind. But she was soon convinced when she heard some of Switch and Taylor’s songs, which coincidentally were influenced by Chaka Khan, but written for their own project.

‘Hello Happiness’ is now available to pre-order from ChakaKhan.lnk.to/HelloHappinessPR with ‘Like Sugar’ and the title track both provided as instant downloads. It will be released on vinyl, digital, CD and cassette.

Track listing:

Hello Happiness
Like A Lady
Don’t 'Cha Know
Too Hot
Like Sugar
Isn’t That Enough
Ladylike

The Who announce new tour

Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend will embark on a tour in May with The Who featuring symphonic accompaniment. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning Friday, Jan.  18 at LiveNation.com.

The Who will also be releasing their first album of new songs in 13 years later this year. On stage, the line-up will be rounded out by familiar Who players featuring guitarist/backup singer Simon Townshend, keyboardist Loren Gold, bassist Jon Button and drummer Zak Starkey, and complemented by various orchestras in the U.S. and Canada.

Fan club presale start Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time and run through Thursday at 10 p.m. local time. Every pair of tickets purchased online includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The Who’s forthcoming album whenever it is released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. In addition, $1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer America (www.teencanceramerica.org.)

The tour is their first return to the states since their 2017 Las Vegas residency. That same year they did a limited run of shows following 2016’s rescheduled leg of their acclaimed 50th anniversary celebration. The band also drew praise for their extended 2012-2013 North American run, a 36-city Quadrophenia tour with the band performing their 1973 rock opera in its entirety.

Commenting on what WHO fans can expect on the 2019 MOVING ON! tour, Pete Townshend stated: ““The Who are touring again in 2019. Roger christened this tour Moving On! I love it. It is what both of us want to do. Move on, with new music, classic Who music, all performed in new and exciting ways. Taking risks, nothing to lose. Looking forward to seeing you all. Are you ready?"

Added Roger Daltrey: “Be aware Who fans! Just because it's The Who with an orchestra, in no way will it compromise the way Pete and I deliver our music. This will be full throttle Who with horns and bells on.”

With both Roger and Pete delivering their own memoirs in recent years (Pete’s Who I Am was released to much acclaim in 2012, and Roger’s autobiography, Thanks A Lot Mr. Kibblewhite; My Story, was embraced by critics in 2018) it’s fitting that the two remaining WHO members have shared their incredible legacy in literary fashion, for few bands have had a more lasting impact on the rock era and the reverberating pop culture than The Who.

In 2008, they became the first rock band ever to be awarded the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. The Who has performed all over the world including global music events for the Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show in 2010 and closing the London 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Who continued their charity work by playing a concert in January 2011 to raise money for trials of a new cancer treatment called PDT. In December 2012 they performed at the Hurricane Sandy Benefit in New York. In January 2014 they played a set on the U.S. television special to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer. In November 2012 Daltrey, with Townshend at his side, launched Teen Cancer America.

That charity is now established in the USA, with offices in Los Angeles and devoted Teen Cancer units being opened in hospitals all over the U.S. TCA’s work has impacted over 5,000 young people and their families nationwide during the last six years.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in the first wave of LA's flourishing punk scene; becominglegendary leaders of a punk generation. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978, followed by seven studio albums released from 1980-1993.

X’s first two studio albums, Los Angeles and Wild Gift are ranked by Rolling Stone among the top 500 greatest albums of all time. Over the years, the band has released several critically acclaimed albums, topped the musical charts with regularity and performed their iconic hits on top television shows such as Letterman and American Bandstand. In 2017, the band celebrated their 40thanniversary in music with a Grammy Museum exhibit opening, a Proclamation from the City of Los Angeles and being honored at a Los Angeles Dodgers game, where Exene threw out the first pitch and John Doe sang the National Anthem. The band continues to tour with the original line-up.

Archival Paul McCartney and Wings film to be shown in theaters this month; 'Red Rose Speedway' reissue out now

Abramorama, in partnership with MPL/Capitol/UMe, will premiere Paul McCartney’s The Bruce McMouse Show in select theaters around the world on January 21.

The previously never-before seen film that tells the story of how Paul McCartney and Wings came to meet the inimitable impresario Bruce McMouse. Part concert film, part animated feature, The Bruce McMouse Show features footage from Wings’ 1972 European tour, interspersed with animated scenes that introduce a family of mice living under the stage.

After opening the film with ‘Big Barn Bed’ – the camera takes us down through the floorboards into this charming animated world. We see Bruce McMouse regale his children with stories from his past, when son Soily rushes into the room in a whirlwind of excitement announcing that “The Wings” are playing above them.

As the concert plays on, Bruce declares to his wife Yvonne that Paul and the band need his help. Bruce then proceeds to venture on stage to offers his services as producer. As the concert progresses, the animated scenes culminate with dozens of animated mice flocking to the venue to see Wings play. ‘The Bruce McMouse Show’ has been fully restored in 2018 at Final Frame Post alongside a brand-new audio mix (stereo and 5.1) created at AIR Studios where it was also mastered.

Watch a special teaser video here

The film was directed by Barry Chattington and produced by Roger Cherrill with the live elements taken from four shows in The Netherlands and Germany in 1972. Paul viewed the initial concert edit and realized there was great potential in the material captured. Prior to the European tour Paul had the idea of a family of mice and sketched the characters.

Picking up the idea, Eric Wylam took Paul’s sketches and created the final McMouse family. This storyline was incorporated and used as a linking theme within the concert footage. The voice-overs for the animated mice took place at the end of 1973, recorded by Paul and Linda McCartney, Deryck Guyler, Pat Coombs and Derek Nimmo. Production stretched from 1972 through to 1977 when the film was complete, however with changes in the band’s line-up and music scene, the project was held in the MPL archives.
