Out now: 'You’re In My Heart: Rod Stewart with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra'; vinyl release coming next month

Rod Stewart is the latest pop/rock star to have his catalog revisited with orchestral arrangements. "You’re In My Heart: Rod Stewart With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra," produced by Trevor Horn, was released last November. In case you missed the news amid the hectic Christmas holiday season, the collection is a must-buy for all Stewart fans. 

Available in both standard 15-track and deluxe 22-song editions, the hits - especially the early-to-mid-1970s numbers - all benefit from the grander treatment. They are often reminiscent of 1993's "Unplugged...and Seated" (in fact, the vocal track on "Handbags And Gladrags” is taken from that acoustic album and TV special).

A new duet version of the 1960s classic "It Takes Two" with Robbie Williams that was co-produced by Bernard Edwards is really fun and rocking. Both entertainers do some ad libs. They have a good rapport and vocal blend together. There's also a pleasant new ballad called "Stop Loving Her Today," co-written by Simon Climie (Eric Clapton). It features keyboards and programming by longtime Stewart collaborator Kevin Savigar. "Tonight's the Night" has new backing vocals and Hammond organ work by Alan Clark (Dire Straits).  

On February 7, the collection will be released as a 180-gram double LP. A special pink vinyl pressing will be available at local independent retailers. Meanwhile, Stewart resumes his Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace in March.

The NAMM Show '20 news: New guitar models from Supro

The Supro Conquistador is a retro-future fantasy instrument, designed in conjunction with Nashville-based guitarist Ford Thurston. The concept for this guitar originated with the idea of taking a traditional Supro double-cut body shape, and proportionally increasing the body dimensions to match Ted McCarty’s groundbreaking semi-hollow 335 design.



The Conquistador’s mahogany body features a single, stylized “f-hole” on the upper bout and a gentle bevel along the outer edge for player comfort. A three-piece bound mahogany neck with 24.75” scale, 12” radius and smooth satin finish is topped off with an elegant black “stinger”—located on the back of an enlarged headstock with 3-per-side Kluson-style tuners. The Conquistador is also equipped with a genuine Bigsby B7 vibrato system and nylon-saddle bridge.



The custom electronics package found on the Conquistador combines a mini-humbucker-sized Gold Foil pickup in the neck—for woody single-coil tones—with an Alnico 3 PAF-style humbucker for vintage clarity, sparkle and bite in the bridge position. A 3-way blade switch is joined by individual volume controls for each pickup and a master tone control, all topped with Hofner-style creme/gold “teacup” knobs. The Conquistador features a “50’s wiring” scheme that preserves top-end sparkle when rolling the pickup volumes down, greatly enhancing the range of usable sounds in comparison to typical production guitars.

The Supro Clermont model draws from the same well of golden-era, semi-hollow inspiration, featuring all-Maple, flat-top construction with 3-ply body binding and a lovely Aqua Burst finish. National-style “bowtie” fretboard inlays and white binding finish off the 3-piece black satin maple neck. The Clermont offers a wide-range of crystal clear single-coil sounds from a calibrated pair of mini-humbucker-sized Gold Foil pickups on a 3-way toggle switch.



The elegant lines, thoughtful hardware appointments and custom electronics of the Supro Conquistador and Clermont guitars come together to create a world-class pair of semi-hollow instruments. These guitars handle a wide variety of musical situations from indie rock to surf instrumentals, Western swing, jazz, blues, country and everything in between. While clearly possessing a unique set of tonal and visual aesthetics, the stylish body contours enable these Supro instruments to fit perfectly into a 335-style hardshell case.

New York alt-rocker Joywave return with new album, tour

Joywave's third album Possession will be released on March 13. It was recorded and produced at the band’s studio in Rochester, NY, by frontman Daniel Armbruster and mixed by Dan Grech-Marguerat (The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Lana Del Rey). 

Possession includes previous released songs, “Blank Slate,” “Obsession,” “Like A Kennedy” and their new single, “Half Your Age” released today. The album title is a reference to control and the loss of it. 

“Our heads are spinning. Every day is crazier than the last. Every screen we walk by is shouting at us, demanding our undivided attention. Control over our own lives is constantly under siege,” says Armbruster. Continuing with the band’s creative use of noteworthy samples and field recordings, Possession is woven together with audio from Voyager’s Golden Record (launched by NASA in 1977). Curated by Dr. Carl Sagan and affixed to the front of Voyager 1 and Voyager 2, the disc was designed to convey a basic understanding of humanity to intelligent lifeforms in far corners of the universe and was also the inspiration for the album artwork.

Joywave’s new single, “Half Your Age” is the latest in a series of new music released by the band over the past 6 months, including “Blank Slate,” “Obsession“ and “Like A Kennedy.” All tracks were accompanied by videos, all streaming now via the band’s official YouTube channel. A video for “Half Your Age” which will release later this month.

On the touring front, Joywave who launched a series of intimate live performances last fall aptly titled “The Possession Sessions” --including sold-out shows in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, London-- and joined Bastille on a major North American run that wrapped right before the holidays, announced two upcoming U.S. headline tours: The Florida Tour which kicks off March 17 in Tampa and The Possession Tour which kicks off on April 18 in Buffalo, NY. The Rochester, NY-based band first came together in 2010. A series of mixtapes and EPs followed, as did Big Data’s RIAA gold certified 2013 single, “Dangerous (Feat. Joywave),” a #1 hit at Alternative radio as well as a top 10 multi-format smash. 2014’s HOW DO YOU FEEL? EP was fast followed by Joywave’s full-length debut album, HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW? The LP spawned a string of multi-format hits, including “Dangerous,” multiple versions of which were then showcased on 2016’s remix collection, SWISH. UK's Bombay Bicycle Club unveil tour dates ahead of upcoming album

Today, Mercury Prize-nominated and UK chart-topping indie quartet Bombay Bicycle Club announce North American tour dates in support of Everything Else Has Gone Wrong, their first new album in 6 years.

The headlining run includes dates in the US, Canada, and Mexico and will feature support from Sports Team. East Coast US dates to be announced later this year. Everything Else Has Gone Wrong will be released via Caroline International/Island Records on January 17.

The run includes two nights at London’s Alexandra Palace, with many of those shows long since selling out and with only a handful of tickets left at the remaining dates. The NAMM Show '20 news: Peavey Electronics' Speakeasy

Peavey Electronics is the debut sponsor of the first-ever NAMM NVP Speakeasy at The 2020 NAMM Show in Anaheim, Calif. Catering to members of the NAMM Vista Program (NVP), the NAMM NVP Speakeasy will set up shop within the Hilton Anaheim, adjacent to the Anaheim Convention Center & Arena. 

The exclusive space will open at designated times on two days, Jan. 16-17, 2020, providing a unique opportunity for the world’s top buyers to network and enjoy the retro vibe. For Peavey, a loudspeaker and electronics exhibitor at the NAMM Show, sponsoring a speakeasy is a welcomed change of pace. The engaging yet laid-back atmosphere will allow for meaningful connections among some of the NAMM Show’s most influential supporters.

The NAMM NVP Speakeasy will open exclusively to NVP buyers during happy hour on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 16-17, from 5-7 p.m. During this time, only NVP buyers with the exclusive password will gain access to the speakeasy, where snacks and drinks will be served. From 7-10 p.m., the speakeasy will open to NAMM Show attendees who will still need to provide a password and will be able to purchase drinks. Passwords will be shared at a future date.

The NAMM Show '20 news: Dimebash, Ronnie Montrose Memorial concerts

The NAMM Show returns to the Anaheim Convention Center Jan. 16-19. Events are typically open just to badge holders, but a few are open to the public.

Dimebash happens on Jan. 16 at the Observatory in Santa Ana. General admission tickets are $33 via Ticketmaster, while VIP tickets are $200. The event honors Darrell, the late former member of Pantera, with various musicians performing his songs. Dave Grohl is among those taking part. Find info at dimebagdarrell.com.

The NAMM All-Star Memorial Concert will honor guitarist Ronnie Montrose (who died in 2012) on Jan. 17. Hosted by TV and radio personality Eddie Trunk, performers include George Lynch, Brad Gillis, Dave Rude, Jimmy DeGrasso, James Kottak, Phil Demmel, Jimmy Paxson, Matt Starr. There will also be cameo appearances, guest speakers and previously unreleased video clips from Montrose’s career. It takes place at M3 Live Anaheim Event Center, 2232 S. Coachella 2020 lineup announced

Coachella returns this 2020 to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA for two weekends set for April 10th – 12th and April 17th – 19th, with weekend one sold out following the advance sale earlier this year. Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean will headline both weekends. (Full lineup as of January 2nd below).
