Keane news

This is exciting news. Keane is one of my all-time favorite bands to emerge during the 2000s. I'm looking forward to hearing the new material. More from the press release below...

Keane will release a new album on Sept. 20 via Island Records. The U.K. band will debut their new single "The Way I Feel" during The Late Late Show with James Corden June 12.

Written by Keane and produced by David Kosten and the band themselves, ‘Cause and Effect’ features 11 new songs recorded in London and Sussex. The band will play two special shows in August at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and LA’s Roxy, with more US shows to be announced soon. Keane have also announced a major UK tour this fall including two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The group will play a series of festivals this summer including BST in Hyde Park on July 14.

‘Cause and Effect’ is Keane’s 5th studio album. Their 4 previous albums have all entered the UK charts at number 1 and accumulated sales of over 13m worldwide and 2.6 billion streams.

The birth of this new album came as something of a surprise even to the band. Singer Tom Chaplin had released two successful solo albums but missed his songwriting partner Tim Rice-Oxley. “I found myself wondering how I had come to let this very enigmatic and important relationship in my life drift,” Tom says.

Meanwhile Tim found his life falling apart and from the ashes had written an album’s worth of incredibly personal songs fuelled by humour as well as pain. When Tom, bassist Jesse Quin and drummer Richard Hughes heard the songs, they were immediately drawn to them both sonically and lyrically.

“Hopes and Fears was a break-up album too, but it was about a break-up when I was 19,” Tim explains. “It’s a bit different when you’re older and you’ve got kids – your whole little world shifts on its axis.”

The video for ‘The Way I Feel’ was directed by Kevin Godley, who previously directed the video for the band’s hit single ‘Is It Any Wonder’ and Tom’s solo release ‘Still Waiting’. Watch video HERE.

As Tim Rice-Oxley says, “We’re not some heritage act. We’ve got a lot of great music in us.”

Jesse Malin teams with Lucinda Williams for upcoming album

Jesse Malin reveals the details for Sunset Kids, his first studio album in four years, to be released Aug. 30 via Wicked Cool/The Orchard/Velvet Elk. Produced by Lucinda Williams, it features two songs co-written by Williams, including first single "Room 13."

"Room 13" is referred to as "the heart of the record, about those meditative moments far out of your comfort zone, where you're forced to reflect on the things that really matter," says Malin. Listen to "Room 13" here.

Malin and Williams first met at a New York City jazz club in the early '00s, but it was when she invited Malin to see her open for what would be the final Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers concert at the Hollywood Bowl in 2017 that talk of her producing the album first took shape.

"From the early frontier days of hardcore in New York to all the punk rock and singer/songwriter touring," says Malin, "it's all been about survival and reinvention. I wanted to make an open-sounding record with the space to tell these stories. I like to write about characters and people I meet along the way. The dreamers, schemers, hustlers, romantics, lovers, leavers and believers."

The title Sunset Kids reflects the album's dedication to the people Malin lost during the making of this album, including its very own engineer David Bianco (Tom Petty Wildflowers), his lifelong friend and bandmate, Todd Youth, his father and other dreamers.

Other guests that appear on the album are Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, who co-wrote and sings on "Strangers and Thieves," and singer songwriter Joseph Arthur who appears on three tracks.

Jesse Malin has tour dates in Europe in June and will be touring the United States in the Fall of 2019. Below is a list of all confirmed dates thus far:

Chrissie Hynde heads into jazz/dub territory on new album

Chrissie Hynde has revealed her new track, "Meditation on a Pair Of Wire Cutters." It is a new interpretation of the original by the legendary jazz musician Charles Mingus, and comes ahead of the release of Hynde's new album Valve Bone Woe on Sept. 6 via BMG.

LISTEN TO "MEDITATION ON A PAIR OF WIRE CUTTERS"

Valve Bone Woe features 14 tracks written by classic songwriters, including Brian Wilson, Frank Sinatra, Hoagy Carmichael, John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Ray Davies and Rodgers and Hammerstein.

Hynde, together with the LA Philharmonic, will perform much of the album at a special concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 6. Chrissie will also be performing as part of the BBC's Proms In The Park in Hyde Park on September 14. Further information on this show is available here.

Valve Bone Woe was recorded with the Valve Bone Woe Ensemble at Air Studios in London.

About the album, Hynde says:

"A few years back when I saw an obit in the paper for the valve-trombonist, Bob Brookmeyer, I mailed my jazz sax-playing brother, saying 'R. I. P. Bob Brookmeyer.' Terry, a man of few words, responded with 'Valve Bone Woe,' a kind of Haiku beatnik prose.

"I thought that was a perfect title for the album I'd been working on with producer Marius de Vries. After we'd recorded 'I Wish You Love' for the Eye Of The Beholder soundtrack I'd often expressed a desire to do more along those lines. What eventually emerged was the idea to do what we refer to as our Jazz/Dub album, the one you're now holding in your hand.

"I'm not hugely interested in branching out into other musical genres, being a devout rock singer as such, but jazz is something I grew up around (thanks to my bro) and I've always had a soft spot for it. I often bemoan what I regard as a decline in melody in popular music and I wanted to sing melodies. Plus, I have a penchant for cover songs, it's the surprise of singing something that I didn't think of writing myself that turns me on.

Jazz got side-lined by Rock & Roll in the 60's, but now the demise of rock seems to be heralding in a newfound interest in it, the most creative and innovative musical forms of the 20th century. I'm happy to jump on the bandwagon."

Dhani Harrison concert film debuts next week before tour with ELO

Big Hassle Media
Grammy winning musician Dhani Harrison's new film, IN///PARALIVE, which was recorded "in-the-round" at the legendary Henson Studios in Los Angeles, will be released through HOT Records Ltd on June 14.

The full film will livestream on Harrison's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/dhaniharrisonofficial) at 12pm PDT / 3pm ET on June 14, right before his North American Summer tour kicks off with lifelong friend Jeff Lynne on a 20-date arena tour as the special guest of Jeff Lynne's ELO.

Following the release of his critically acclaimed debut solo album, IN///PARALLEL, Harrison went into the historic Henson Studios in Los Angeles with his band to showcase the release as a live studio concert. Featuring a string section and guests from the album, including Mereki, Big Black Delta, Camila Grey (Uh Huh Her / Summer Moon) and Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), this session was captured on film as IN///PARALIVE.

Talking about the recording, Harrison says: "Henson Studios has such a rich musical history that going there to showcase IN///PARALLEL live with all the guests who appeared on the album, accompanied by a string section, was a great way to celebrate the live dynamics of the album after a year of touring it with my band. I've played intimate shows and recorded at Henson before, so to capture the cinematic feel of the album in that hallowed studio makes for a great time capsule of that time in my career. I always believe in performing every album I make live from start to finish. To me it's not done until you've done that. That's the fun bit."

IN///PARALIVE features:

1. Never Know
2. #WarOnFalse (feat. Mereki)
3. Ăšlfur Resurrection (feat. Camila Grey)

Grammy-nominated country singer/songwriter Ty Herndon has released a re-recorded version of his 1995 breakthrough hit song “What Mattered Most,” along with a new video. With the pronouns reversed from the original, reframing the subject of Herndon's affection in the song as another man, this new version of the ballad reflect's Herndon’s true self that fans have come to know since he came out in 2014. The track and video were just released in honor of Pride Month.

Herndon has also announced the upcoming release of a new album, Got It Covered, for Aug. 23 through BFE/The Orchard. The 10-track album, is a compilation album featuring reimagined hits and covers of some of Herndon’s favorite songs. His career spans two decades, 20 Billboard charted singles and over five million albums sold.

In November of 2014, Ty Herndon was the first major male country artist to publicly come out as gay. Shortly after, he hosted the first-of-its-kind country music event, titled The Concert for Love and Acceptance. The event, designed to bring attention and support to at-risk youth and acceptance, received national attention. Since the launch of the event, Herndon has partnered with GLAAD to produce the event each year.

Using his celebrity influence for the better good, GLAAD announced that a grant, named after Herndon, was being offered to support young people for their commitment to enhancing LGBTQ inclusion and representation in music. The recipient of the Ty Herndon Rising Stars Grant receives $2,500 to further fund their work and initiatives. Herndon has also donated his time to organizations such as the Trevor Project, Make A Wish, St. Jude, GLAAD, HRC and Feed the Children.

One of his most recent acts of giving was lending his vocals on the tribute track, “Hands.” The single, released through Interscope Records in conjunction with GLAAD, is a musical tribute to the victims of the recent shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Herndon was among a star-studded list of artists, including Mary J. Blige, Jason Derulo, Selena Gomez, Imagine Dragons, Jennifer Lopez, Kacey Musgraves, P!nk, RuPaul, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Meghan Trainer and more, voicing support for the LGBT community in the original song. Proceeds from the track benefit Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD.

Herndon will also be performing at LOVELOUD festival on June 29th. Founded by Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds, LOVELOUD seeks to progress the relevant and vital conversation about what it means to unconditionally love, understand, accept, and support LGBTQ+ youth, and raises money for mental health and health services for them.

The return of Britain's The Futureheads

The Futureheads have announced that Powers, their sixth studio album and first electric guitar release in almost a decade, will be released on Aug. 30. Recorded and self-produced at Newcastle's First Avenue Studio, Powers is a record that looks “at the balance of power in a personal, political and relational sense.”

Having first emerged at the start of the '00s, The Futureheads – vocalists and guitarists Barry Hyde and Ross Millard, vocalist and bassist David 'Jaff' Craig and vocalist and drummer Dave Hyde – released five critically-acclaimed albums, headlined countless tours and earned an NME Single of the Year accolade for their cover of Kate Bush's 'Hounds of Love.'

“Obviously it’s an absolute privilege to come back and still have fans and that’s something to cherish,” Ross says, “but I also think we’ve got a bit of a job to do about letting people know that there’s more to this band than you might have thought.”

Adds Barry: “I love the thing Bowie said about how an artist should be slightly out of their depth because that's when you get the good stuff.” Or as David Lynch says, 'If you want to catch the big fish, you've got to go deep.'”

"Headcase" and "Animus" find the lead singer addressing problems that put a stop on the band in the first place. “My main thing was about accepting how my mind works and then trying to love that. The danger of mental illness is becoming trapped in something like depression; you can't stay manic for too long, you end up sectioned or probably dead because you become so uncaring about your own safety,” he explains. “I'm not a victim of my own mind anymore; I take responsibility for my mind and my actions, and those two songs speak to that.”

Conversely, "7 Hours, 4 Minutes" is a love song to his partner and young daughter. “We had a home birth, she had a paracetamol and that was it. At midnight her waters broke, and then Nico, my daughter, came at four minutes past seven. That song's a little monument to my first born.”

"Across the Border" delves into social commentary. “As a band, we were always interested in personal politics and behavior, but we never spoke about the state of the nation or big picture politics,” Ross begins, “but in the meantime the world’s changed so much and there are things to really kick against. We live in a region that’s somehow or other been tagged as the poster boy for Brexit, and the misinformation and aggression that this referendum has brought out in people has become a really terrifying thing that I haven’t seen in my lifetime. It's a defining moment in British politics that’s impossible to ignore if you’re making art.”

One song, "Listen Little Man," was named after a book by controversial therapist Wilhelm Reich. “The record we’ve made is a little off kilter and maybe a little more out of step than you might expect from four lads in their 30s. I think it might surprise people,” says Ross.

Longtime fans will find an invigorated Futureheads.

“There's power and sophistication and simplicity, and it's bloody hard to play, which I think will keep the shows interesting because we're on the edge of our abilities with this,” states Barry. “It's musical audacity: that's what this album's about.”

The band have just finished a tour of the UK that included a sold out show at The Garage (London). This summer they will play festivals across the UK and Europe.
