Camper Van Beethoven to issue deluxe reissue of 1985 debut album

Cooking Vinyl has announced the 40th Anniversary reissue of Telephone Free Landslide Victory, the debut album by Camper Van Beethoven, arriving September 5 on CD and LP.

This edition comes housed in a 6-panel digi-sleeve, complete with a 16-page booklet featuring new liner notes by founding bassist Victor Krummenacher.

Also out on September 5, a Limited Edition Green Vinyl LP featuring an alternate green cover, restoring the band’s preferred track order.

The band will play the album in its entirety at the annual Cracker & Camper Van Beethoven Campout on Sept. 12 at Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown, as well as the 40 Watt Club in Athens, GA on Sept. 17. For other live dates, go to crackersoul.com.

New Merch Store for Pappy and Harriets Pioneertown Palace Open Now

Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace has announced a new way to purchase official branded merchandise: a fresh webstore

The store is starting out with a curated offering of the Southern California High Desert outpost’s core designs, including a variety of short and long sleeve tees, crewneck sweatshirts and hoodies, trucker hats, and tote bags.

The initial selection features two short sleeve tee shirts with a desertscape (black or cream); a short sleeve tee shirt with the venue’s interior stage art from local artist Shea Cline (grey); a long sleeve tee shirt with the exterior of the venue (grey); a crewneck sweatshirt with a desertscape (grey); a pullover hoodie with the exterior of the venue (black); a zippered hoodie with a desertscape (green); a trucker hat with the logo (black & white); and a tote bag with a desertscape (cream).

These designs originally debuted exclusively for patrons visiting Pappy & Harriet’s in person and are now available to customers globally for the first time. Certain items will only be offered for brick-and-mortar sale, but upcoming merch releases will include online-only designs. The next drop is planned for winter 2025, so stay tuned for more details.

Pappy & Harriet’s has partnered with Coachella Valley-based Windmill City Screen Printing, which uses environmentally-sensitive printing technologies on premium garments, for this first run of designs. Pappy & Harriet’s plans to collaborate with local artists for additional soft goods, as well as show posters, in the future. This includes Pappy & Harriet’s x Knitting Factory Entertainment merch that will combine the aesthetics of the venue with its entertainment company owner.

Pappy & Harriet’s also recently announced the first show with FREE entry exclusively for Local Keychain holders: local band Mick Rhodes & The Hard Eight (Sunday, August 10). The Local Keychain is an effort to thank patrons from the Morongo Basin for their long-time support of the hometown haunt. Holders receive priority entry to shows, 10% off all food, and $2 off every alcoholic drink for themselves and one guest.

The upcoming selection of live music at the venue includes two multi-day events: the third annual Pappy & Harriet’s Chopper Party (Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20) and the seventh annual Orville Peck’s Rodeo (Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16). The Chopper Party will feature performances from Paul Cauthen, The Rhyolite Sound, Gethen Jenkins, Will Worden, Frankie & the Studs, and Sik Sik Sicks. Orville Peck’s Rodeo will feature performances from Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Joy Oladokun, Allison Russell, Abbey Cone, Angela Autumn, Chaparelle, Emily Rose & the Rounders, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Jobi Riccio, Palmyra, The Deslondes, Uwade, and Valley James, plus a drag brunch with the queen Meatball.

Other musical highlights include: Adrian Quesada, of Black Pumas (Sunday, August 3); Ben Vaughn (Sunday, August 17); Japanese Breakfast (Thursday, August 21); Tennis (Friday, August 22); The English Beat (Tuesday, August 26); Twin Shadow (Saturday, August 30); and more. See the complete calendar of events here.

Pappy & Harriet’s first opened its doors in 1982, following a ten-year stint as a biker bar, and has since become a mecca for tourists near and far and residents of the local community. The historic venue began as the cantina in an Old West frontier town built in 1946 by a group of Hollywood investors (including Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Russel Hayden) for use as a film and television set. Now an unpretentious cultural institution that hosts live entertainment and maintains the homestyle cooking of its husband-and-wife founders Harriet and Claude “Pappy” Allen, the performance space and restaurant is operated by the famed hospitality and live music company Knitting Factory Entertainment (“KFE”). KFE has a long history managing bars and restaurants, owning and operating music venues, and booking live events and festivals.

Bad Company tribute album arriving in October

Since I interviewed Paul Rodgers in the past, for the first Bad Co reunion and his most recent solo album, I'm really looking forward to hearing this...

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee BAD COMPANY will be celebrated with a first ever, star-studded tribute album to be released October 24 via Primary Wave Music.

CAN’T GET ENOUGH: A TRIBUTE TO BAD COMPANY features artists from rock, country, and Americana – genres deeply influenced by Bad Company. Paul Rodgers and the late Mick Ralphs founded Bad Company was founded by Mick Ralphs and Paul Rodgers in 1973. Rodgers and Bad Co drummer Simon Kirke also appear on the album, bringing the tribute full circle. See full track listing below.

“I’ve loved Bad Company since the very beginning, a phenomenal combination of two of my favorite bands, Free & Mott The Hoople, what’s not to love?! says Def Leppard singer and tribute contributor Joe Elliott. "What a privilege it is for myself and Phil [Collen] to cover one of my favorite Bad Co songs with Paul and Simon! Wow!”

Another contributor, Hardy, says, “There’s a short list of bands my dad played for me as a young boy that shaped my love for rock n’ roll, and Bad Company is on that list. It’s a very cool and surreal moment to be part of this project.” Slash adds, “Bad Company was the background music of an important period in my youth. They were such a great band, and a huge influence on me then and still are today.”

Kicking things off is The Struts “Rock n’ Roll Fantasy.” Recorded and mixed by Bob Clearmountain, watch the band’s studio session video HERE Stream & download song HERE

Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks' lone pre-Fleetwood Mac album to finally get debut reissue

'Buckingham Nicks,' the only studio album by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks as a duo, will be reissued for the first time on September 19. Originally released in 1973 and unavailable for decades, the album has been sourced from the original analog master tapes for its long-awaited return to vinyl, as well as hi-res digital files for its CD and digital release.

Released on September 5, 1973, Buckingham Nicks quickly faded from commercial view but never disappeared from the cultural conversation. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Keith Olsen, the album introduced Nicks and Buckingham’s tightly wound harmonies and sharply contrasting songwriting voices across 10 tracks—ranging from the folk-rock shimmer of “Crystal” to the sunbaked strut of “Don’t Let Me Down Again.”

Its legend only grew with time. In late 1974, Mick Fleetwood visited Sound City while scouting studios to record Fleetwood Mac’s next album. To showcase both his production work and the studio’s sound, Olsen blasted “Frozen Love” for Fleetwood in Studio A. The song reflected the full scope of the album’s ambition and chemistry—and immediately caught the drummer’s attention.

Soon after, when Fleetwood Mac guitarist Bob Welch left the band, Fleetwood reached out to offer Buckingham the spot. Instead of agreeing, Buckingham insisted that he and Nicks were a package deal. Fleetwood agreed, and on New Year’s Eve 1974, the two officially joined Fleetwood Mac—launching one of the most celebrated chapters in the band’s history.

Though their work with Fleetwood Mac would eclipse it commercially, Buckingham Nicks endures as a testament to what came just before: a partnership in full creative bloom. “[We] knew what we had as a duo, two songwriters that sang really well together. And it was a very natural thing, from the beginning,” Nicks recalls in the Rhino High Fidelity liner notes, written by longtime music journalist David Fricke.

They may have been inexperienced when they made the album, Buckingham says, “but it stands up in a way you hope it would, by these two kids who were pretty young to be doing that work.”

Buckingham Nicks (Rhino High Fidelity) was cut by Kevin Gray from the original masters and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal. Available exclusively at Rhino.com and internationally at select Warner Music Group stores, the album is limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies. A special version (limited to 2,000 copies) includes two replica 7-inch singles featuring the original single mixes of “Crying In The Night” b/w “Stephanie” and “Don’t Let Me Down Again” b/w “Races Are Run.”

The record opens with a Nicks original, “Crying In The Night, “an earthy preview of what was coming for Fleetwood Mac with cascading harmonies.” The track is available digitally ahead of the full release. Listen Now.

Buckingham Nicks will be available from Rhino on CD and digitally with remastered sound by Chris Bellman, who also cut lacquers for several 1LP color vinyl variants: Custard (Amazon), Baby Pink (indie stores), Violet (Books A Million), and Baby Blue (general retail).

Led Zeppelin catalog reissue news

On Sept. 12, Rhino Records will put out a live EP, previously unreleased in physical recorded formats, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary deluxe 3LP+program edition of Houses of the Holy, also set for release the same day.

The new live EP features live recordings of “In My Time Of Dying” and “Trampled Under Foot” from Earls Court, 1975, alongside “Sick Again” and “Kashmir” from Knebworth, 1979. These live performances were originally released on the 2003 Led Zeppelin DVD and appear on CD and LP for the very first time.

Following the 10-week North American tour that ran from January through March, 1975, Led Zeppelin played five sold-out nights at London’s Earl’s Court in May, 1975. Initially, three shows were announced, with another two added after the tremendous demand for tickets.

The band headlined both nights of the Knebworth Festival, which took place at Knebworth House, Hertfordshire, England on August 4 and 11, 1979. These were Led Zeppelin’s first live dates since their 1977 North American tour, and their first U.K. dates since the Earl’s Court 1975 shows.

Generally regarded as one of the greatest double albums of all time, the original 15 PHYSICAL GRAFFITI tracks represent a creative tour de force that explores the band’s dynamic musical range, from the driving rock of “Custard Pie” to the exotic construction of “Kashmir” and the funky groove of “Trampled Under Foot.”

Jimmy Page began the initial work at his home studio in Plumpton, Sussex, England, in the summer and autumn of 1973, with the first recording sessions taking place that October at Headley Grange, using Ronnie Lane’s Mobile Studio. Further sessions at Headley continued in January 1974. Additional overdubs were recorded at Olympic Studios, where Page completed mixing of the album in July 1974.

Here's what surviving members of the band have said via press release:

"We had enough material for one-and-a-half LPs, so I figured, ‘Let’s put out a double and use some of the material we’d done previously but never released’. I always thought the sequencing of an album was really important and that was part of my role as the producer."
- Jimmy Page

“It goes from one extreme to the other but at the same time, it’s very evident that it’s Zeppelin… I love the album and it does work as a double album. There are some real humdinger, roaring tracks.”
- Robert Plant

“I’m a big fan of PHYSICAL GRAFFITI. [It] was very wide ranging. It probably was a pinnacle.” -John Paul Jones

The openly gay Peck made his Broadway debut in Cabaret in the role of the Emcee on March 31 and performs through July 20. He recently spoke to People exclusively about the production. Regarding his voice, NPR professed, “It is so beautiful and full of longing, and it's all the more powerful because I don't have the full context of the artist himself.” The New York Times also profiled him.

Last year, Peck dropped his duets album Stampede, featuring collaborations with Kylie Minogue & Diplo on “Midnight Ride,” Beck on “Death Valley High,” and “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other” with Willie Nelson. Additionally, the album features collaborations with Elton John, Willie Nelson, Noah Cyrus, Allison Russell, Margo Price, Teddy Swims, Mickey Guyton, Midland, Nathaniel Rateliff, Debbii Dawson, Bu Cuaron, and Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway. Irvine, Calif. post-hardcore band Thrice to return with 'Horizons/West' this fall

OC alt-rock band Thrice return with Horizons/West, their new album set for release on October 3 via Epitaph Records. The announcement arrives alongside the release of the record’s lead single, “Gnash,” available now on all streaming platforms. Pre-sale for the Horizons/West vinyl and exclusive merch is available now at ThriceMerch.com.

Listen to “Gnash” and pre-save Horizons/West here.
Watch the moody visualizer for “Gnash” here.

It serves as a companion to 2021’s Horizons/East.

“This is the first time we leaned into something that felt like a direct continuation, like a sequel to a previous album,” says frontman Dustin Kensrue.

Horizons/West was produced and engineered by the band at New Grass Studios, with mixing and additional production by Scott Evans and mastering by Matthew J. Barnhart, both of whom also worked on Thrice’s The Artist in The Ambulance (Revisited), (2023).

Lyrically, the album delves into themes of personal identity, societal manipulation, technological anxiety, and spiritual awakening. “A lot of this record is about parsing reality,” Kensrue explains. “We’re constantly being influenced by algorithms, by fear, by our own social echo chambers. Horizons/West tries to pull the curtain back on some of that. We’ve always just followed our curiosity, wherever it leads,” Kensrue reflects. “We want to keep growing, exploring, and making something that feels honest to who we are right now.”

Following the release, Thrice will embark on a nationwide headline tour this fall. For more information, tickets, and exclusive presale access for Horizons/West, visit thrice.net.

Comprehensive Dionne Warwick box, set for next month, covers 1962-71

SoulMusic/Second Disc Records have announced that the Dionne Warwick deluxe 12-CD box set Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings, 1962-1971 will be available on August 1. This release will be the definitive celebration of the six-time Grammy Award winner and 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, one of the most successful and acclaimed vocalists of all time.

Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings, 1962-1971 is the first-ever collection to comprehensively chronicle the first decade of the legendary Dionne Warwick’s recording career and her era-defining collaborations with songwriter-producers Burt Bacharach and Hal David.

The deluxe 12-CD set’s 280 tracks encompass every original Scepter album and single release plus over 60 rare bonus tracks – 16 of which are previously unreleased (both in the studio and in concert) – for a total of over 14 hours. The set includes the exclusive bonus disc Always Something There: Live & Studio Gems from The Scepter Vaults, which premieres a lost 1969 concert from Washington, D.C.

“I am so very thrilled about this wonderful collection of my recordings. It is truly something that I myself would buy,” said Dionne Warwick, in a press release.

Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings, 1962-1971 also features never-before-heard alternate takes of “Don’t Say I Didn’t Tell You So,” “Who Gets the Guy,” “Walk the Way You Talk,” and “We’ve Only Just Begun,” along with the official CD debuts of Leslie Uggams and Dionne’s rare duet of Bacharach & David’s “Try to See It My Way” and the soundtrack versions of Dionne’s songs from the film adaptation of the Jacqueline Susann novel, The Love Machine.

The box set is produced by Joe Marchese and Jim Pierson, with David Nathan serving as executive producer. The package is designed by John Sellards while all tracks have been newly mastered by Nick Robbins. The 68-page booklet features a 12,000-word essay by Marchese, drawing on previously unpublished interviews with Warwick and the late Burt Bacharach. The booklet also features a personal reflection from Nathan. The booklet is illustrated with photos as well as album artwork. Each disc is housed within the slipcase in an individual wallet with detailed annotations.

This reissue from SoulMusic Records completes the primary trio of Warwick’s recording legacy, alongside the box sets, Sure Thing: The Warner Bros. Recordings, 1972-1977 and Déjà Vu: The Arista Recordings, 1979-1994. The new set is released in cooperation of Warwick.

Long awaited new Charlatans UK studio album arrives in October

The Charlatans UK's 14th studio album, We Are Love, is due out Oct. 31, via BMG.
frontman Tim Burgess describes the title track as "like an open-top car ride in the credits of your favorite movie, driving along the coast to somewhere amazing."

One of the first tracks to emerge as the Manchester band was writing, it became a pathfinder for the record, as guitarist Mark Collins explains: "Early on, we thought it felt right. And it turned out that way: first single, title track, second song on the album. And things started forming around 'We Are Love.' There was a certain energy to it that drove us forward.”

LISTEN TO "WE ARE LOVE"
PRE-ORDER WE ARE LOVE

The Charlatans UK's career spans 13 albums, 22 Top 40 UK singles, and three Number One UK albums.

An eight-year gap between albums is the longest ever for one of the UK’s most enduring bands. A combination of covid, solo projects, life’s complexities and the fact that its five members - Tim Burgess (vocals) Martin Blunt (bass), Mark Collins (guitar), Tony Rogers (keyboards) and Pete Salisbury (drums) - live scattered across Europe, meant that it took longer than usual for the stars to align at the right place, right time, right vibe.

They took the time to carefully select a recording A-team of production duo Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange) and Fred Macpherson, plus legendary producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur, The Cranberries).

Recorded at two places that are totemic in The Charlatans UK's history - Rockfield in Wales and their own Big Mushroom space in Middlewich, Cheshire - Burgess cites hauntology and psychogeography as two concepts that swirled in his head as the band dug into the album making.

For one thing, their return to storied farm studio Rockfield for the first time in almost 30 years, since they made their fifth album Tellin’ Stories, was an important step. As a band, they hadn’t been there since keyboard player Rob Collins was killed, in the middle of that album’s sessions, in a car crash at the bottom of the track leading to the farm.

“The whole idea of hauntology and psychogeography is represented by us going back to Rockfield, where so much history has happened for The Charlatans," says Burgess. "That was important as a way of honoring every member who's played in the band. So we’re honouring ourselves, our past, feeling that energy and reincarnating it, doing something fresh, brand new.”

Last Dinner Party return with new album in October

Female alt-rock quintet The Last Dinner Party will release From The Pyre, their second studio album, on Oct. 17 via Island Records.

The first single is “This Is The Killer Speaking”. Watch the video here and listen to the track here. Pre-order on all formats here.

The band collectively share about their new album:

“This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them. ‘The Pyre’ itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light.

“The songs are character driven but still deeply personal, a commonplace life event pushed to pathological extreme. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse. Lyrics invoke rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos. We found this kind of evocative imagery to be the most honest and truthful way to discuss the way our experiences felt, giving each the emotional weight it deserves.”

“This record feels a little darker, more raw and more earthy; it takes place looking out at a sublime landscape rather than seated an opulent table. It also feels metatextual and cheeky in places, like a knowing look reflected back at ourselves.”

The Last Dinner Party will perform at Connecticut’s Soundside Festival, as well as both NYC and Washington DC editions of All Things Go Festival. Tickets for all dates are available here.

For From The Pyre, the London musicians - Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), Emily Roberts (lead guitar, mandolin, flute), Georgia Davies (bass) and Aurora Nishevci (keyboards, vocals) - headed into the studio early 2025 with Grammy Award winning producer Markus Dravs (Wolf Alice, Florence & The Machine, Bjork) to start work on the follow-up to their number 1 debut album, 2023’s Prelude to Ecstasy.

The band has won two BRIT Awards (including Breakthrough Artist earlier this year).

Robert Plant news

Robert Plant has announced the release of Saving Grace: the first album featuring a new band which he calls "a song book of the lost and found." Arriving Sept. 26 on Nonesuch Records, the genesis of Saving Grace began during the COVID-19 lockdown in "The Shire."

While his recent adventures have centred around Nashville, having reunited with Alison Krauss for 2021's chart-topping, multi GRAMMY-nominated Raise The Roof, it was in the English countryside that Robert Plant connected closely to this group of musicians.

Plant and Saving Grace – vocalist Suzi Dian, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, banjo and string player Matt Worley, cellist Barney Morse-Brown – have spent the past six years growing into a wide-ranging workshop of styles and personalities, weaving through time and circumstance with joy and abandon.

"We laugh a lot, really. I think that suits me. I like laughing," Plant says. "You know, I can't find any reason to be too serious about anything. I'm not jaded. The sweetness of the whole thing…These are sweet people and they are playing out all the stuff that they could never get out before. They have become unique stylists and together they seem to have landed in a most interesting place."

Following his previous acclaimed releases on Nonesuch Records – 2014's lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar and 2017's Carry Fire – Saving Grace brings yet another chapter. Produced by Robert Plant and Saving Grace – and recorded between April 2019 and January 2025 in the Cotswolds and on the Welsh Borders – Saving Grace breathes fresh life into a collection of century-old music. A treasury of songs featured back in time by Memphis Minnie, Bob Mosley (Moby Grape), Blind Willie Johnson, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind, and Mimi Parker and Alan Sparhawk's Low.

Listen to Robert Plant and Saving Grace's reimagined rendition of Low's "Everybody's Song," out today

After touring extensively across the UK and Europe in recent months and years, Robert Plant and Saving Grace will perform for the first time in the US this fall, with an initial run of a dozen North American shows. Find the full list below, and tickets at robertplant.com/#tour.

Dramarama concert review: Fontana, Calif.

Concert Review

Dramarama

Stage Red, Fontana, Calif.

July 11

Stage Red, among the Inland Empire’s newest concert venues located in Fontana, officially launched in June 2024 with a concert by Sammy Hagar. His branding agents partnered with officials from his hometown and local musician IZ Avila to open it (Hagar’s name adorns the marquee). I finally had an opportunity to check out the establishment on July 11 when Dramarama headlined and was impressed.

The intimate venue, with a capacity of around 350, is owned by the City of Fontana. Originally built as a 1937 Art Deco movie house, it more recently served as the Center Stage Theater until closing in 2022 for major renovations.

Ticketing options include general admission/standing room pit, premium general admission and the VIP balcony level which overlooks the stage. There is a bar on the main GA level and some food is available. I spotted some early arrivals sharing a pepperoni pizza. Entering the parking garage located behind the venue was easy with an attendant ($10; a total bargain these days).

In the merch area, various live photos and posters of Hagar adorn the walls. Patrons can buy copies of his and Guy Fieri’s book Sammy Hagar’s Cocktail Hits, plus Red Rocker shirts, hats and bags. The sound and lighting systems were good; the spacious stage is positioned high enough for decent vantage points around the general admission area.

Dramarama kicked off the high energy, 75-minute set with frenetic rocker “Some Crazy Dame” (off debut album “Cinema Verite” – marking its 40th anniversary this year). Fans were excited from the get-go. Sporting three original members (singer John Easdale, guitarists Mark Englert and Peter Wood), plus long-serving drummer Tony Snow and bassist Mike Davis, the alt-rock band proved it still has plenty of firepower.

The exciting “Spare Change” and “Out in the Rain” were early highlights. It’s always fun to watch how newcomers react to the lyrical list of retro shows Easdale sings about during “70’s TV” (from 1989 gem “Stuck in Wonderamaland”), where Wood’s guitar work was prominent. Englert, laser focused as always, came across the most riveting amid “Ain’t It the Truth,” the harrowing “Prayer” and “It’s Only Money.” The latter track and a fierce, mildly politically minded “Up to Here” are both off 2020’s exceptional “Color TV” album. Meanwhile, Snow often held down the beat and Davis, the bottom end, with fury.

At one point mid-set, a concertgoer apparently yelled out for the band to play its rousing signature song “Anything Anything (I’ll Give You).” Easdale replied that it was too soon. “I did that when I was 14,” he joked, meaning that they save the most vocally taxing tune in the catalog for last. Another time, the singer quipped to diehard Dramarama fans, “You might have noticed I’m not drinking Tab” cola (his usual onstage beverage of choice) tonight – “or maybe not.”

Elsewhere, modern rock radio hits like “Haven’t Got a Clue,” the socially conscious “Work for Food” and rave up “Last Cigarette” had many people singing along loudly. Finally, it was time for the careening “Anything Anything (I’ll Give You)” and fans came through vocally again, matching the musicians’ energy.

Orange County Darkwave group Felix & the Foreshadow opened the Stage Red show. Engaging mohawked singer Felix Duenas continually prowled the stage and prompted audience interaction. “To Live and Die in L.A.” (not the Wang Chung song) came across like a spikier Placebo, while “Spell’s on Me” was somewhat reminiscent of Ministry. The best part of its set though came when Duenas strapped on an electric guitar for a chance of pace because their regular axe man was absent. Then they concluded with cool cover’s of B-Movie’s “Nowhere Girl,” plus bits of New Order’s “Blue Monday” and Yeah Yeah Yeah’s “Heads Will Roll.”

Rob Thomas of matchbox 20 has a new album in September, with tour later this summer

On his sixth solo album All Night Days, multi-platinum singer-songwriter Rob Thomas worked with producer Gregg Wattenberg (Goo Goo Dolls) and Grant Michaels for a project that
marks his first release on Universal Records. It will be available on all platforms September 5. Listen to lead focus single “Hard To Be Happy” and acoustic B-side “Thrill Me” now here, and pre-order the album, including signed copies and exclusive color vinyl, here.

Speaking about the lead single, Rob says:

"I wanted to write a song that felt happy. More than ever, we live in a time where personal and mental wellness can become a focus in your life. For that to happen, it needs to be acceptable to say, ‘I’m not happy right now; I don’t feel comfortable in my own skin.’ The song itself is very no-filler. It shows, ‘It’s alright to be unhappy,’ but it’s wrapped up in a happy tune. The message is, ‘I’m going to be fine, but leave me alone for this second."

Rob will tour the US, Australia, and New Zealand, marking his first full tour since Matchbox Twenty’s “Slow Dream Tour,” and first headlining tour since 2019’s “Chip Tooth Tour.” For tickets and more information about “The All Night Days Tour,” visit https://robthomasmusic.com/events/.

About the new album, Thomas also adds, “I hope you see yourself in my music,” noting, “The great songs I listen to are the ones where I’m the hero of the story in my head, even if I don’t know the writer. There are a lot of ‘Saturday Night’ and ‘Sunday Morning’ songs on All Night Days. Maybe one of these tunes becomes a part of your life.”

David Bowie box set 'I Can't Give Everything Away' covers final four studio albums and more in September

Parlophone Records in England has announced DAVID BOWIE 6. I CAN’T GIVE EVERYTHING AWAY (2002 – 2016), the sixth in a series of box sets spanning Bowie’s career from 1969.

The new set is the latest instalment in the award-winning and critically acclaimed series that includes DAVID BOWIE 1. FIVE YEARS (1969 – 1973), DAVID BOWIE 2. WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 – 1976), DAVID BOWIE 3. A NEW CAREER IN A NEW TOWN (1977 – 1982), DAVID BOWIE 4. LOVING THE ALIEN (1983-1988) and DAVID BOWIE 5. BRILLIANT ADVENTURE (1992-2001) and will be released on Sept. 12.

DAVID BOWIE 6. I CAN’T GIVE EVERYTHING AWAY (2002 – 2016) is a twelve-CD, eighteen-piece vinyl and standard digital download/streaming box set named after the closing track on ★ (BLACKSTAR), Bowie’s final studio album. The box sets include newly remastered versions (except ★ and No Plan), with input from David’s co-producer Tony Visconti.

On Bowie’s birthday in Jan. 2017, the NO PLAN EP brought together the original songs written for Bowie's Off-Broadway play, LAZARUS, including the titular ‘Lazarus’, ‘No Plan’, ‘Killing A Little Time’, and ‘When I Met You’, all recorded during the sessions for ★ (BLACKSTAR).

Exclusive to each of the box sets are MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL and RE:CALL 6. The former was recorded on the 18th of July 2002 at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival and among the 31 tracks features a full performance bar one song of one of Bowie’s most revered albums, LOW. RE:CALL 6 features 41 non-album / alternative versions / b-sides and soundtrack songs, including tracks never previously available on CD or vinyl over 3CDs and 4LPs.

The physical box sets accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, feature previously unseen notes, drawings and handwritten lyrics from Bowie and photos by Sukita (who took the set’s cover shot), Jimmy King, Frank W. Ockenfels 3, Markus Klinko, Mark ‘Blammo’ Adams and more as well as memorabilia, technical notes about the albums from co-producer Tony Visconti and design notes from Jonathan Barnbrook.

The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums where applicable, and the CDs will be gold-coloured rather than the usual silver. The vinyl box set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.

New album from '90s Brit pop band Cast due in January; select U.S. tour dates in the fall

Having kicked off the summer with the first two shows opening for Oasis, there’s still much more to come from Cast before the year is out, including their first US dates in 29 years, with Oasis and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and a just-announced headline show at New York’s Sony Hall on September 3.

Cast are set to continue into 2026 with the news that they will release their new album, ‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’, on January 30 via the Manchester-based independent label, Scruff of the Neck Records. New single ‘Poison Vine’ features soul legend, P.P. Arnold.

Frontman John Power had written some song ideas, but an unexpected opportunity to start recording emerged late in 2024 - months before he had originally planned to hit the studio. He travelled to Spain with bandmates Liam ‘Skin’ Tyson (guitar) and Keith O’Neill (drums), where the trio recorded the set with producer, Youth (The Verve, Primal Scream), at his Space Mountain studio.

John says, “‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ just arrived out of the blue. There was a window of opportunity - Youth was free, the studio was free, and the band were free - and I thought, let providence prevail. No one had heard the songs apart from myself and (Creation Records founder) Alan McGee, but we both thought that we had something. You could feel it, even though none of the songs were really finished, and so we decided to roll with it and record them. It was more than just trying to capture a vibe - it was about trying to record something majestic, which is how Youth describes the record.”

John admits to being blown away by P.P. Arnold's delivery.

“There’s an angst to ‘Poison Vine’ that wrote itself: ‘Something deep inside you want me to find.’ It’s got a groove and a sassiness throughout the track, but when I heard them two vocals kicking in on the chorus, then I just knew we had it! I thought, that’s it, that’s the real thing.””

A Sixties soul survivor, Arnold is enjoying a new spell in the spotlight following her sensational Glastonbury set. The London-based American artist rose to prominence with classic solo hits such as ‘The First Cut Is The Deepest’ and ‘Angel of the Morning’, but she has played a part in all manner of famous moments, including Ike & Tina Turner’s ‘River Deep, Mountain High’, as well as collaborators with everyone from Small Faces and Nick Drake to Peter Gabriel and Rogers Waters, through to The KLF and Oasis. She first met Youth at a gig just a few days prior to recording ‘Poison Vine’ and will also feature on a second song on the 'Yeah Yeah Yeah' album.

‘Yeah Yeah Yeah’ is available to pre-order HERE. It will be released on vinyl, CD, cassette and all digital formats. The most eye-catching format is a mouthwash effect liquid-filled 12” vinyl, which has been signed by the band and is limited to just 100 copies. The first 500 orders of any physical product from the band’s official store will also receive a signed print.
