Michael Bublé news

Michael Bublé will be releasing HIGHER, his 11th studio album through Warner/Reprise Records on March 25. Pre-order HERE.

Listen to first single, “I’ll Never Not Love You” HERE and watch the lyric video HERE.

Produced by Greg Wells and Bob Rock along with Alan Chang, Jason ‘Spicy G’ Goldman and Sir Paul McCartney, HIGHER is Bublé’s first studio album in three years and follows his successful sold out two-year global “An Evening With Michael Bublé Tour” as well as the 10th year of the massive success of his classic Christmas album.

There is a duet with Willie Nelson of his song "Crazy," a Bublé version of the Sir Paul McCartney penned song "My Valentine" (produced by McCartney), the Bob Dylan classic “Make You Feel My Love,” and three Bublé penned originals including the new single “I’ll Never Not Love You.”

Also among the tracks are Bublé’s take on the Sam Cooke’s classic “Bring It On Home To Me,” “You’re The First, The Last, My Everything,” and “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square.” The album closes with a version of “Smile” accompanied by a gospel choir.

Commented Bublé, “This time out, I opened myself up completely to trying new things. I dug deeper while working and surrounding myself with the greatest music makers on the planet with gigantic imaginations. Whether it was sitting down to write with Ryan Tedder and Greg Wells, recording three songs in one day with my pal Bob Rock along with 40 of the most amazing musicians off the studio floor who hadn’t played music in 15 months, dancing around laughing and crying in my underwear in my home studio when a song sounded just right, every moment felt magical or that the universe was conspiring to bring me to this moment in time 20 years into this amazing ride I’ve been on. I have never been more excited after completing an album.”

“Michael Bublé is a great dance partner. He gives me lots of credit but I credit him for opening up his trust to try working with a new team. He’s a phenomenal hitmaker,” commented Greg Wells.

Added Bob Rock, “Since I’ve worked with him, this was the most focused and inspired Michael has been. He understood the record he wanted to make. He had a clear vision. As soon as we started, he stuck his neck out to make each song get to the place that he was hearing it in his head.”

George Ezra introduces the 'Gold Rush Kid'

BRIT Award-winning, multi-platinum selling musician George Ezra has announced his new album Gold Rush Kid, due June 10 via Columbia Records. It is available to pre-order/pre-save HERE. Reflecting on the title of his third record, George says: “The Gold Rush Kid? That’s me.”

The Gold Rush Kid era begins today with the release of its euphoric first single and album opener “Anyone For You,” available to stream and download HERE. The song arrives alongside an official video that introduces the Gold Rush Kid to fans for the first time. Watch HERE.

In speaking about the lead single, George says: “‘Anyone For You’ is a patchwork of lyric ideas found in old notebooks and chance moments shared between musicians in the studio. It’s joyous and infectious, and I can’t help but smile every time I sing it.”

Going through those notebooks, one of the first scribblings that caught George’s eye was a verse he’d written when he was 23, before he’d even begun working on his second album: “Tiger Lily moved to the city, she’d just turned 21, and I said: here’s my number, hit me up, if you’re needing anyone, and then I can be anyone anyone anyone anyone anyone for you…”

After two hit albums – Wanted On Voyage (2014) and Staying At Tamara’s (2018), both of which reached number 1 in the UK and sold millions around the world, and the latter of which earned him his first number 1 single with "Shotgun" and won him the 2019 Brit Award for British Male Solo Artist – it was time to return to heart and hearth, with an album written and produced entirely in London with longstanding collaborator Joel Pott.

The singer-songwriter will debut some of the album’s songs for the first time at a handful of intimate shows in the UK next month. Following the release of Gold Rush Kid, Ezra will play his biggest headline show to date, a special all-day event at London’s Finsbury Park on July 17, 2022. Joining George at the event will be special guests Blossoms and others to be announced. Visit https://www.georgeezra.com/ for more information.

In recent years, George has launched two podcasts, both of which reached number 1. George Ezra & Friends saw George in conversation with Sir Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Sir Tom Jones, Nile Rodgers, Lily Allen, Craig David, Shania Twain, Lewis Capaldi and more. Its episodes have been played over a million times and won the Bronze Award at The British Podcast Awards, in the Listeners’ Choice category voted for by the public.

It was followed by a new series, Phone A Friend, co-hosted by George and his long-time friend Ollie MN. When George and Ollie both experienced issues with mental health, they found comfort in opening up to one another about what they were going through. Phone A Friend captures their candid and light-hearted chats, with the intention of encouraging the listener to start conversations of their own. Each episode, George and Ollie share the ups and downs of their week and discuss how to balance mental health concerns with the other stresses of daily life.

Canadian hard rock vet Aldo Nova emerges with rock opera, re-recorded hits

Multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist, and multi-instrumentalist ALDO NOVA has set April 1 as the release date for the first chapter of his rock opera, a 10-song EP titled THE LIFE AND TIMES OF EDDIE GAGE.

The Montreal native will subsequently release the triple disc ALDO NOVA 2.0 RELOADED on April 19. It will feature 2.0 versions of nine classic songs from ALDO’s catalog, plus another disc with no lead vocal track and a third disc with no lead guitar track so fans can either sing along or play along with him.

Up first this year for ALDO--who has spent more than four decades in music--is the release of the first 10 tracks (nine songs, one bonus cut) from THE LIFE AND TIMES OF EDDIE GAGE rock opera. It tells the story of Eddie Gage, a prodigious ingénue who breaks into the music industry only to be preyed upon by a nefarious suit Andy Christos, manipulated by a corporate overlord M.F. Stophalis, and tempted by a succubus Rati Ayida. Drugs, alcohol, and excess plunge him into despair until he realizes redemption on his own terms.

Look for the newly released “Free Your Mind” single available now. Listen here

ALDO explains, “The date is July the 1st of 1982, when only three months after the release of his 1st album, simply titled Eddie Gage, Eddie has achieved superstar status. This is him playing in front of 10,000 fans and singing about the fact that it’s time for people to expand their minds towards a more spiritual side of reality because society has become corrupt, a direction that his record company, Daedalus Records did not want him to take. The lyrics say it all, and Eddie and his band show a level of musicianship far above the norm.

The musical journey of THE LIFE AND TIMES OF EDDIE GAGE began in 2008, when ALDO started to assemble what would become 25 songs (which ALDO will eventually release). On the rock opera, he wrote, produced, arranged, engineered, and mixed. The recording includes a 40-piece orchestra, a gospel choir, Lee Levin on drums and mastering by Bob Ludwig. In addition, a one song bonus disc will accompany the collection with the instrumental song "Les Anges.”

“I feel really comfortable in my own skin, and my music is who I am,” ALDO says. “The record was done from pure inspiration he says, I felt like was connected somewhere. I was truly channeling some place away from myself. It was almost as if something above connected to me and gave me these songs.”

Following the release of THE LIFE AND TIMES OF EDDIE GAGE, ALDO will turn the page on the next chapter of this story with the three-disc ALDO NOVA 2.0 RELOADED. The three-disc recording features nine classics from his catalog new recordings--not only as the 2.0 versions of the songs, but also as alternate versions with no lead vocal track and another with no lead guitar track so fans can finally either sing along or play with him.

“Nobody’s ever done this,” ALDO says. “You can basically sing with me as your backing band or play along as a backing track. No other artist has given his tracks to fans in this way. I want to encourage kids to improvise and learn. You can play the record if you want, or you can be a part of it. It’s a new concept.”

Ultimately, ALDO is no stranger to new concepts, and he continues to break ground.

“When you hear any of this, I want you to feel like I took it to another level,” he leaves off. “I didn’t just come back and do the same thing. I didn’t stay stagnant. I’m sixty-five-years-old, but I feel like I’m thirty-years-old. I’m bringing everything to a whole new universe. I’m comfortable. I’m happy in my independence. I am who I am. I’m Aldo Nova, because my real name is too hard to say,” he laughs.

More Beatles news - 'The Beatles and India' documentary airs next month on BritBox streamer; accompanying tribute album available now

Post Summer of Love, in 1968 the world’s most popular rock and roll band, The Beatles had achieved mass fame and fortune yet were searching for deeper meaning in their lives. Under the spiritual guidance of Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, The Beatles took a trip to Rishikesh, India to study transcendental meditation and set out on a path of deep enlightenment that would change the world.

Slated for release on February 15 via BritBox in North America, the streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV, the award-winning feature documentary, The Beatles And India (Silva Screen Productions, Renoir Pictures) examines how Indian music and culture shaped the music of John, Paul, George and Ringo and in turn, explores how The Beatles served as ambassadors of this pioneering World music sound and cultural movement.

Drawing together an expansive archive of footage including contemporaneous locale shooting in India, recordings, photographs, and compelling first-hand interviews, The Beatles And India exhaustively documents this East meets West touchstone in pop culture history. Purloining inspiration from Ajoy Bose’s book Across The Universe - The Beatles In India, the documentary is produced by British Indian music entrepreneur Reynold D’Silva and directed by Bose (his directorial debut) and cultural researcher Pete Compton. The Beatles And India has been awarded Best Film Audience Choice and Best Music at the 2021 UK Asian Film Festival “Tongues On Fire.”

The Beatles’ were first introduced to Indian music while filming their 1965 film, Help!, which featured the Indian musicians in a restaurant scene. George Harrison would become a lifelong impassioned devotee of Indian music. He would soon buy his first sitar, befriend and study under sitar master Ravi Shankar and employ the instrument to revolutionary effect linking the worlds of pop music with Indian music on the Beatles song, “Norwegian Wood,” which appears on their Rubber Soul album. That song marked the group, and particularly Harrison’s full on immersion into Indian music, a raga rock sound heard in The Beatles songs, “Tomorrow Never Knows” and “Love You To” (Revolver) “Within You Without You” (Sgt. Pepper) and “The Inner Light (B-side to the “Lady Madonna” single)”

In early July 1966, while returning from shows in the Philippines, The Beatles made a quick stopover in New Delhi, India, marking their first trip to the country. Less than two years later, in February 1968, the group would return for an extended sojourn at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram in Rishikesh, India where they would take a training course in Transcendental Meditation. Their search for spiritual enlightenment would both shape their thinking and values and indelibly color the sounds of their expanding musical palette.

Silva Screen Records, in tandem with the documentary release on BritBox in North America, presents a 19-song companion album: The Beatles And India: Songs Inspired by The Film - out now.

It features interpretations of The Beatles songbook, blending traditional and contemporary Indian influences, as recorded and performed by Indian artists Anoushka Shankar (Ravi Shankar's daughter), Vishal Dadlani, Kissnuka, Benny Dayal, Dhruv Ghanekar, Karsh Kale, and Soulmate.

Many of the songs featured on the album--“Mother Nature’s Son,” “Dear Prudence,” “Sexy Sadie,” Back in the USSR,” “I’m So Tired,” “Julia,” I Will,” “The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill,” Everybody’s Got Something to Hide (Except for Me and My Monkey),” “Child of Nature,” (later re-written and recorded by John Lennon in his solo career as “Jealous Guy”)--were written during The Beatles 1968 extended stay in Rishikesh, India and most would feature on the group’s 1968 double-album, The Beatles, better known as “The White Album.”

Blossoms ready ‘Ribbon Around the Bomb’ for April

The band was among my highlights when I reviewed its Coachella set a few years ago. Read about the new material from the press release below...

Blossoms' fourth studio album ‘Ribbon Around The Bomb’ is set for release on April 29. The British band has shared the title track and accompanying video, directed by Edwin Burdis, Arctic Monkeys’ Creative Director, who worked on the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and AM albums.

Listen to “Ribbon Around The Bomb” HERE and watch the music video HERE.

This is the first new music from Blossoms since their “Care For” which was released last year. “Care For” gained great support from radio at home in the UK, with the track being playlisted and made the ‘Hottest Record’ by Radio 1, as well as getting on the B-List with Radio 2.

Speaking about the new album and single, Blossoms’ Tom Ogden reveals, “While on tour in 2019 in Mexico, I visited Frida Kahlo’s house. Looking at her paintings on show, someone had described one of them as being like a ‘ribbon around a bomb’. I immediately thought that it was a great title for a song and album because of the imagery that it evoked in my mind. I thought about how lots of things in life could be described as being a ribbon around a bomb in the sense that as people we often dress things up which have a darkness lying beneath them.”

The band’s new album is produced by regular collaborators James Skelly (The Coral) and Rich Turvey and revolves around a central character ‘The Writer’. Tom Ogden explains:

“The more songs I wrote, the more I realized that the writer referenced in the songs was in fact me. Having been so busy for the past eight years, I and the band have never really had the chance to step back and reflect on what we’ve achieved. You’re so focused on the future; write the next album then tour. Your life is usually mapped out at least two years in advance.”

Ogden says “Ode To NYC” is “a love letter to my favorite city, as well as my wife,” while "Everything About You" is “as honest as they come.”

Then there's “Visions,” referencing the singer's age.

"At 23 I had just had a number 1 album and begun my relationship with my now wife Katie. Reflecting on what I’d achieved at such a young age left me wondering, what now?”

Blossoms are currently gearing up to play a series of live shows and festivals in the UK this summer as well as a run of support dates with The Killers. North American tour plans for the Stockport five-piece are currently in the works following successful headline runs in 2019 and 2017 -- including critically acclaimed appearances at Coachella Festival in California and Lollapalooza in Chicago.

Stay up to date on all Blossoms live dates by visiting www.blossomsband.co.uk/tour/.

Blossoms' 2016 debut ‘Blossoms’ topped the UK album charts for two consecutive weeks and went on to earn the band BRIT Award and Mercury Prize nominations, while 2018’s ‘Cool Like You’ charted at Number 4 in the UK album charts.

Third studio album, 2020’s ‘Foolish Loving Spaces,’ was the band’s second UK Number 1 album and following the release of In Isolation/Live From The Plaza Theatre, Stockport in 2020, the band have now had four top 5 albums in the UK.

“Ribbon Around The Bomb, the album’s title track is out now.

Colin Hay ponders 'Now And The Evermore' in March

Colin Hay's next all new studio album Now And The Evermore will be released on March 18 via Lazy Eye/Compass Records. Along with the announcement, Hay shared the album’s title track from the album, featuring a guest appearance from Ringo Starr who played drums on the track. Listen to “Now And The Evermore” HERE

"’Now And The Evermore’ is a reminder to myself, to make the most of what time I have left walking around on top of the planet,” says Hay. “When I listen to it, it transports me back to when I thought I had all the time in the world. It is a song which is unashamedly inspired by the majesty of The Beatles, and the gift they gave us all. Having Ringo Starr play on the track is more than icing on the cake."

“I’m deeply grateful for the life I have, and I think my natural tendency has always been towards optimism and humor. Lately, though, I’ve had to be more intentional about it. I’ve had to actively seek out the positive, to let new rays of hope shine on some seemingly dark situations.”

The album was written and recorded in Hay’s adopted hometown of Los Angeles.

Following a successful stint in Men at Work, Hay put out his solo debut in 1986. For the next three-and-a-half decades, he has recorded 12 more critically acclaimed studio albums.

Over the course of his career, Hay's frequent appearances at LA’s Largo club helped garner him a legion of fans in the entertainment world. Among them was actor/director Zach Braff, who called Hay’s mix of heartfelt songwriting and hilarious storytelling “one of the most amazing things I had ever seen.” Braff would go on to feature Hay’s music prominently in the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack for Garden State and invite him to appear as himself on the hit series Scrubs, which helped introduce his music to a whole new generation of listeners.

On top of his rigorous schedule as a solo artist, Hay has also managed to tour the world with Ringo Starr & His All–Star Band, release an audiobook of Aesop’s Fables, star in the award-winning documentary Waiting For My Real Life, and even provide the voice for Fergus Flamingo in Disney’s The Wild.

Daryl Hall solo retrospective slated for April

Legacy Recordings/Sony Music will release BeforeAfter, the first-ever solo retrospective from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Daryl Hall, as a two-disc set and across all digital platforms, on Friday, April 1.

On the same date, Hall will also embark on his first solo tour in a decade. Tickets for the Carnegie Hall show go on sale Friday, January 28th at 11AM ET on livenation.com. Tickets for all other dates go on sale starting Friday, January 28th at 10AM local time on livenation.comTodd Rundgren will be a special guest on all dates.

Compiled and sequenced by Hall, BeforeAfter features thirty tracks spanning all five of his solo albums, from the 1980’s Robert Fripp-produced Sacred Songs through 2011’s Laughing Down Crying, which was co-produced with longtime Hall compatriot T-Bone Wolk, who sadly passed before the album was released.

Additionally, the collection features six never-released performances from the pathbreaking web and television series Live From Daryl’s House, which Hall launched in 2007 with the then-novel idea of “playing with my friends and putting it up on the internet.” Special guests on the Live From Daryl’s House tracks include Rundgren, Dave Stewart, and Monte Montgomery.

“I picked this collection of songs from my solo albums because I feel they encapsulate certain periods of my career.” says Hall. “It also shows the diversity of working with collaborators like Robert Fripp or Dave Stewart. And, having some tracks from LFDH on it, really makes the compilation complete.”

As Jeremy Holiday writes in the accompanying BeforeAfter liner notes, “How paradoxical that Daryl Hall is most associated in the public imagination with a long-term musical partner. Because few artists are as individualistic, and individually complete … Yet Daryl Hall is also a brilliant collaborator, and, perhaps ironically, that quality is equally if not more apparent within his solo work. More than a chance to work ‘alone,’ Hall’s individual pursuits have granted him license to be more eclectic in his choice of collaborators and to push further outside the expected bounds.”

Those collaborators include Fripp and Stewart, who co-produced Hall’s 1986 album Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine and co-wrote a number of its tracks, and even Mariah Carey who contributed vocals to 1993’s Soul Alone.

That spirit of collaboration has also guided Live From Daryl’s House from its inception, with Hall welcoming multiple generations of artists - from Smokey Robinson and Cheap Trick to Aloe Blacc and Grace Potter - over the show’s fifteen year history.

Jason Mraz compilation of his love songs arrives before Valentine's Day

Jason Mraz announced "Lalalalovesongs," a collection of Mraz’s love songs, including RIAA Diamond certified “I’m Yours,” 6x RIAA Platinum “I Won’t Give Up,” RIAA Platinum “Have It All,” and Grammy-winning duet, “Lucky” in addition to several more hits and an as-yet-unannounced, never-before-released fan favorite as a digital bonus track.

Lalalalovesongs will be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally on February 11. A limited-edition, neon-pink vinyl version will also be available exclusively at jasonmraz.com and Amazon. Fans can pre-order or pre-save the album here. The tracklisting is available below.

“I feel so LaLaLaLucky to share these songs again on this new album,” said Mraz. “Love has been an almost constant theme in my writing, and this record really shines on that, further amplifying the message. Big love to my listeners, and to Atlantic and Rhino for the lovely release!”

Lalalalovesongs kicks off with Mraz’s worldwide smash “I’m Yours,” which ranks as the most-streamed track of the 2000s decade (2000-2009) by a solo artist on Spotify, with nearly 1.3 billion streams, and the second most-streamed track of the decade by any artist on Spotify.

Additionally, the song recently surpassed 2.5 billion global streams across all audio and video platforms. “I’m Yours” was also the first song ever to top the Triple-A, Adult Top 40, Mainstream Top 40, and Adult Contemporary Charts, charting for 76 weeks and setting a record at the time for the longest chart run in Billboard history.

To celebrate these milestones, the original video of the track has been upgraded to 4K along with the debut of a new video remembrance from Mraz where he discusses the story of the song, from its inception to its gradual development from fan-favorite into a Billboard Top 10 single, and its effects on his musical career. The new video from Mraz is available here, and the newly upgraded, 4K version of the original video for “I’m Yours” premiered today here.

Since the release of his 2002 debut studio album, Waiting for My Rocket to Come, Mraz has earned Platinum and Multi-Platinum certifications in more than 20 countries, while performing on all seven continents, including an intimate acoustic set on an iceberg in Antarctica while on a trip to raise climate change awareness. Mraz’s releases have generated 7.5 billion streams and more than 12.5 million album equivalents to date.

Mraz is currently writing new music for release later this year. He leads the Jason Mraz Foundation, which supports programs focused on inclusive arts education and the advancement of equality. A gentleman farmer, his Mraz Family Farms is committed to peace in the world through organic regenerative agriculture, fair trade, and kind words. He released his latest album, Look For The Good, in 2020."

Out now: ‘Night Call,’ the new album by Years & Years

‘Night Call,’ the third album from Platinum-selling British pop outfit Years & Years is out now on Interscope Records. Fronted by Olly Alexander, now standing solo, the album features the latest single “Sweet Talker” (with Galantis). Listen to the new album, ‘Night Call’ HERE.

Clues to the album's theme are in the album’s artwork, featuring a mermaid of a muse. “I wanted to identify with this beautiful creature luring men to their death; searching for a love, or a lover, that’s out of reach” Olly says. “A lot of the songs are patchworks inspired by random memories and hook-ups, or men that I’ve met.”

Written over the course of six months, ‘Night Call’ sees Olly Alexander use his platform to push the boundaries of mainstream superstardom. With a sound as inspired by pioneering figures like Sylvester as it is the club-ready world of French House and embodying the new perspective of a character – like his portrayal of Ritchie in HBO's acclaimed series ‘It’s A Sin’ - also deeply influenced Olly’s songwriting in its wider exploration of queer life. ‘Night Call’ blurs the boundaries between hedonistic fantasy and locked down reality precisely because, says Olly, “I was stuck in the same four walls. I wanted to have as much pleasure as possible in the music.”

Co-written by and produced in a manner familiar to Olly, with producer Mark Ralph at the helm and pulling in young and experimental song makers to work on the tracks with Olly, including the likes of Georgia, DetoNate and George Reid.

“Crave” is an undoing of the traditional idea of sexual submission in song form, and how it changes when we subvert it – commanding that domination instead.

“It was a playful way of inhabiting the deranged sexual energy I’ve always wanted,” he says of the song. “In the past I felt like I’ve been dominated by toxic relationships, and I felt like it would be fun to turn it on its head.”

A ‘fuck-you’ rage felt towards men who’ve messed him around shapes two tracks in particular: “Consequences” and “Sooner or Later”. They are about, Olly says, “every man that has annoyed me in my life."

“Strange and Unusual”, inspired by the chilled-out house music -- the likes of Morcheeba -- his mother raised him on, is a love song that honors the distinct queer experience. “Queer people are othered in that respect, so I wanted to write something that felt fun and transcendent for three minutes,” he says.

Two tracks were salvaged from the 20-or-so cut demos that meant the most to Olly: “20 Minutes” and “Make It Out Alive”. The former is about the blush of affection felt, albeit briefly, during a hook-up; “Make It Out Alive” is the closest thing the record has to a lovelorn ballad. But it’s so fatalistic in its framing of love that it almost counts as high camp in its final form; as if it could be sung live from atop a trapeze wire, gazing at the moon. “I found a good groove on the people I was working with musically,” Olly says of these songs, “then we got on a roll.”

The album is a work of fantasy, and on its tracks, Olly layers his characters with glimmers of real life meaning. “The characters are me,” he insists.

‘Night Call’ follows two successful albums. The singer/actor has earned 5 Brit Award nominations, surpassed 4.4 billion global streams, and sold out numerous global tours. Olly has also become a voice on important discussions around mental health, and issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

2021 started out with a leading role in the critically acclaimed HBO Max drama ‘It’s A Sin’, which brought the fight against HIV/AIDS back into the public conversation like never before and earned Olly a nomination for a prestigious Critics Choice Award for ‘Best Actor in A Limited Series or Movie Made for Television’ for his role as Ritchie Tozer in the series.

Other 2021 highlights included a performance of the Pet Shop Boys song “It’s a Sin” alongside Elton John at the BRIT Awards (WATCH) and the release of his single “Starstruck,” which was Olly’s first new music since 2018’s ‘Palo Santo.’ Olly was later joined by Kylie Minogue on a special remix of “Starstruck.” Listen HERE. Olly would again team up with Kylie on “Second to Midnight,” the lead single from Minogue’s ‘Disco: Guest List Edition’ (also featured on the deluxe version of ‘Night Call’). Watch the official music video HERE.

A special Deluxe Version is available featuring 3 new tracks plus the previously released Kylie Minogue-assisted remix of “Starstruck” and Olly’s Kylie collaboration “A Second To Midnight.”
