Alison Moyet wrapped up her North American tour on Wednesday night. The sold out LA show at the Fonda Theatre had fans enraptured from the get-go. Much of it was devoted to the British veteran's latest album "Other." The exquisite electronic pop effort saw her re-team with producer Guy Sigsworth (Bjork, Madonna, Alanis Morissette) to fine effect.
Following Moyet's spoken word recording "April 10," the 100-minute set kicked off with the high drama of "I Germinate." Backed by a pair of male keyboardists (occasionally adding guitar) and a blinding, yet dazzling lighting design that often kept her in the shadows, Moyet gave "When I Was Your Girl" a robust vocal delivery. "Wishing You Were Here," from 1991's "Hoodoo," was an early highlight.
Yaz - Moyet's successful early '80s collaboration with Vince Clarke of Erasure/Depeche Mode fame - was represented by five songs in the set. When the familiar melody to "Only You" (#2 UK) played, the crowd immediately went crazy. "Getting Into Something," off 1994's "Essex" sounded gorgeous.
"This is about a peculiar kind of romance that I don't understand whatsoever," Moyet said, as an introduction for the ominous, industrial-tinged "Beautiful Gun," which recalled Shirley Manson of Garbage.
After acknowledging her large contingent of gay male enthusiasts in attendance and a longstanding relationship with them, the vocalist did an intimate "Man in the Wings," backed by subtle synths. Later, "The Rarest Birds," a majestic song of praise for LGBT community, found Moyet talking about living in Brighton, England, where everyone "lives together freely." Orchestral sounds provided added depth.
All the between song banter was quite enjoyable. Before stately piano ballad "Other," Moyet admitted that being "middle aged feels pretty good." Upstairs in the balcony, people found a way to dance around during more uptempo numbers like "Right as Rain," "Happy Giddy," the Yaz selections "Bring Your Love Down," "Don't Go" and high energy closer "Situation" (the latter two topped the US dance chart).
While Moyet preferred to emphasize her newer material over Eighties solo work live, she did perform a pair from 1984 debut LP "Alf": a reworked "All Cried Out" and "Love Resurrection." All told, it was truly a hypnotizing evening of music.

Legendary singer/songwriter and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member John Fogerty has signed an exclusive recordings deal with BMG to release his new solo album and reissue his renowned solo catalog.
As co-founder of Creedence Clearwater Revival, the group’s chief musical architect, and as a solo artist, Fogerty’s works rank as some of the most influential in American music history. Currently in the studio working on material for the full-length album to be released next year, BMG will kick off Fogerty’s solo catalog reissue campaign beginning with the 20th anniversary release of the Grammy Award-winning album Blue Moon Swamp on CD, 180g black vinyl, limited-edition 180g blue vinyl, and digital platforms on Nov. 17.
Originally released May 20, 1997, Blue Moon Swamp won Best Rock Album at the 40th Grammy Awards in 1998, with the song ‘Blueboy’ receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance that same year.
Blue Moon Swamp would go on to receive gold certification by the RIAA. The 20th anniversary release of Blue Moon Swamp now features a new album cover showcasing the famed concert backdrop from the album’s original supporting tour. Additional reissues from Fogerty’s solo career include the chart-topping and multi-platinum Centerfield, the gold-certified albums Eye of the Zombie and Premonition, Déjà vu (All Over Again), as well as a new Best of collection featuring highlights and favorites curated from his extensive solo catalog. Release dates to be announced.
Fogerty said, “I’m excited to partner with BMG for the next chapter of my music career. Their enthusiasm and confidence, affording me the creative freedom to make the music I want to make, has been absolutely refreshing. We have so many new and intriguing ideas that I look forward to sharing with everyone soon."
Following two sold-out, critically-acclaimed Las Vegas residencies in 2016, Fogerty returned to the city for a series of live shows in March and May this year with his debut at the Wynn’s Encore Theatre performing John Fogerty: Fortunate Son In Concert. Recently, the Wynn announced a slate of 15 additional live performances through October 7 and January 10 – 20, 2018.

Grammy Award-winning artist Ed Sheeran has announced details for his first-ever North American stadium tour. Dates begin next summer on Aug. 18 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, and continue into November (see attached itinerary).
To ensure that tickets go to his fans, not scalpers or bots, Sheeran is partnering with Ticketmaster to use the #VerifiedFan system. Registration is open and closes on Oct. 12 at 10 PM ET. The Fan Presales are set to begin Monday, Oct. 16 at 10 AM and run through Thursday, Oct. 19 at 10 PM (all times local). The general public on-sales are Friday, Oct. 20 at 10am (local).
Last week, Sheeran launched the latest single “Perfect” with a companion lyric video that amassed over 3 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours and is now up to over 6.4 million views. “Perfect” made it’s U.S. television premiere this week with a live performance on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Next week, Sheeran returns to NYC’s Times Square for the much-anticipated return of MTV’s “TRL” on Oct. 2.
“Perfect” is the 3rd single off Sheeran’s blockbuster 3rd studio album “÷” (pronounced “divide”). Now certified 2x-platinum by the RIAA, the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s third studio offering is the biggest selling album of the year.
After debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 with the biggest first week sales at the time of its March release, “÷” remained in the chart’s top 10 for a staggering 24 weeks. In the U.S. alone, tracks on “÷” have collectively earned more than 1 billion on demand streams.
Sheeran has likewise enjoyed record-setting success with the album’s 6x-Platinum certified, lead single “Shape Of You,” which is now the most streamed on song ever on Spotify. In addition to topping Billboard’s “Hot 100” for 12 weeks, the hit song remained in the top 10 for 33 consecutive weeks, the most ever in the chart’s 59-year history. “Shape of You” and follow-up Platinum certified single “Castle On The Hill” debuted at #1 and #6 respectively on Billboard’s “Hot 100” upon their tandem release at the top of the year, establishing Sheeran as the first artist to ever have two singles make simultaneous top 10 debuts.

When you have the comfort of working on your ninth album without the rush to meet a deadline, you really want to take your time, especially if it’s your first solo outing in 18 years.
For singer/songwriter Nick Heyward, Woodland Echoes, his forthcoming album - out Nov. 3 on Red River/BFE Entertainment - served as a reminder of things he is grateful for. “I’m glad I’m alive, I’m glad that I’m writing and putting records out.” His appreciation for making music is reflected on all 12 tracks on this breezy, smart pop gem.
Nick has been putting out great pop songs since his band, Haircut One Hundred, blasted on to the scene in the early '80s, earning four UK Top Ten and two US Top 40 singles with “Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl),” “Love Plus One,” “Nobody’s Fool” and “Fantastic Day” from their debut album, Pelican West. While enjoying the early days of success, differences in style and direction led Heyward to leave his post as front man and lyricist to begin his solo career.
An artist who has always been well received by both critics and fans, Heyward released three solo albums in the 80s, three in the 90s (including a 1998 release on Creation Records at the behest of Alan McGee) and two 2 collaborations in the aughts. A 2013 announcement of new music was met with eager anticipation, but supporters would have to wait until 2015 for a preview of what would become the music on Woodland Echoes.
Recorded at his son Oliver’s studio, on a houseboat in Key West, and Zak Starkey’s Salo Sound studio deep in the UK countryside, Nick deliberated over the music until he felt it was ready. “At first, I wanted it finished straight away.” he says. “But then, ‘that’ll do’ became impossible for me; in fact, it was the opposite – as soon as someone said something would do, I knew it wouldn’t!”
It’s that precise attitude that makes Heyward’s music so special. This album, like all of his work, is made with the same passion, introspection and grace found in all of his music. An avowed lover of nature and the outdoors, you can hear that influence in all the tracks, particularly “Beautiful Morning.” “Love is the Key By the Sea,” which opens the album, is a bold and harmonious love song, and the jazzy snap-your-finger fun of “Who” is most certainly a tip of that hat to Mr. Paul McCartney.
All things being equal though, the Nick Heyward of 2017 isn’t the same person as the Nick Heyward of 1982. “You have to find peace and love; it’s a process – my early songs were always bittersweet – the verse would be going through the struggle, but then it would be ‘it’s a fantastic day’; but there was always that struggle. On this album, that struggle is gone. The songs on Woodland Echoes are reflective of the past 10 years.”
It’s a treat to have Nick Heyward back making premium pop music. In 1985, Nick told Smash Hits magazine that “I want to make the kind of LP you can wrap up and give to someone as a present. No duff tracks at all, just 12 shining wonderful singles, I suppose.” In 2017, with Woodland Echoes, he has finally achieved his goal.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds’ new album, Who Built The Moon? is the result of a two-year creative collaboration with producer, DJ and composer, David Holmes.
Released on Nov. 24 on Sour Mash, the follow-up to the platinum-selling, Chasing Yesterday (2015) is set for prompt live treatment as Gallagher and band announce a 2018 Tour.
Live shows start in February 2018 in the US followed by UK tour dates in April. Tickets go on general sale on Friday Sept. 29 at 10am local time with details, links to purchase tickets and tour updates available at www.noelgallagher.com.
There will be a fan pre-sale that includes enhanced experience ticket packages starting Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 10am EST. You can gain access the pre-sale, including the enhanced experience packages by signing up here: https://nghfb.lnk.to/signup before Tuesday midnight EST.
Who Built The Moon? gathers vocalists and guest musicians from around the world. Gallagher wrote entirely in the studio for the first time with Holmes. Guests included Paul Weller (organ on Holy Mountain) and Johnny Marr (guitar and harmonica on If Love Is The Law).
Holmes said, “People are going to be surprised. I think people love Noel and they’re desperate for him to make a really big, bold, up-tempo beast of a record – a lot of Noel’s music is quite mid-tempo. This one is fun.”
Adds Gallagher, "We took a keyboard riff we liked from an unused track and added chords. A year later we came to deal with it as a song and when we got to the chorus, David kept asking me to write a new one…again and again and again. I was ready to strangle him. The one that you hear is the eighth attempt and, you know what? The annoying thing is he was right.”
On "Holy Mountain," Gallagher says, “David played me the sample, so I worked out the chords and we demoed just a few, short minutes of it, taking it away on tour and playing with it. When it became a song back in Belfast it was so joyous, I just had to do it justice. What’s more joyous than being in love, baby? So, I wrote a song about love and it’s one of the best things that I’ve ever done.”

This should be very interesting. Read all the details from the press release below...
In 1977, Saturday Night Fever captured and propelled a global cultural movement like few movies before or since, with its iconic, Bee Gees-led soundtrack driving the film’s dancefloor action. A worldwide smash upon release and an essential modern classic for all time, ‘Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack)’ spawned four No. 1 singles and won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
On Nov. 17, Capitol/UMe will release the illustrious soundtrack’s 40thAnniversary Edition in expanded commemorative configurations including a super deluxe box set that pairs the remastered album and remixes with the film’s 4K-restored 40th Anniversary Director’s Cut.
“Forty years ago, Saturday Night Fever was released and the impact that came from it, even today, is inexplicable. It was inexplicable even then,” writes the Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb in his new essay for Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack) 40th Anniversary Edition.
The ‘Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack)’ 40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition box set features two CDs with the remastered original album and four Serban Ghenea remixes, the remastered album on heavyweight 180-gram 2-LP vinyl in a gatefold jacket with faithfully replicated original album art, and a Blu-ray disc with the film’s 4K-restored 40th Anniversary Director’s Cut and Theatrical Version, plus bonus features.
For the collectible box set, it adds a 23-page book with newly-written essays by Barry Gibb,Saturday Night Fever music supervisor and soundtrack producer Bill Oakes, director John Badham, and the film’s score composer and musician David Shire, as well as Bee Gees photos and stills from the film, plus an exclusive turntable slipmat, a set of five art prints, and a reproduction of the original Saturday Night Fever movie poster. The soundtrack’s new 2-CD and digital 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition pairs the remastered album with the four new Serban Ghenea remixes.

Composed and performed primarily by the Bee Gees, the legendary album’s mega-hits include “Stayin’ Alive,” “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “More Than A Woman,” and “If I Can’t Have You.” Certified 15-times multi-platinum by the RIAA for U.S. album sales totaling more than 15 million, ‘Saturday Night Fever (The Original Movie Soundtrack)’ has sold more than 40 million copies around the world. The album topped the U.S. album charts at No. 1 for 24 consecutive weeks and remained on Billboard’s albums chart for 120 weeks, also holding the No. 1 spot on the U.K. album charts for 18 consecutive weeks. In 2004, ‘Saturday Night Fever(The Original Movie Soundtrack)’ was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame® and it was added to the U.S. Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry as a culturally significant work in 2013.
For Saturday Night Fever’s 40th Anniversary, the film’s director John Badham worked with Paramount Pictures to restore the film in 4K resolution using the original negative, and to update the film’s surround sound mix to further enhance viewers’ enjoyment of its incredible soundtrack. During this process, he added scenes to the R-rated theatrical version that round out character and plot, making the 40th Anniversary Director’s Cut the definitive representation of his original vision.
With John Travolta’s electrifying Academy Award®-nominated performance, the Bee Gees’ explosive soundtrack and, of course, the unforgettable dancing, Saturday Night Fever captured the angst and brio of the time, making an indelible impact on popular culture. Forty years later, the film about a Brooklyn kid with no prospects who lives for Saturday night continues to be revered and celebrated.
The Bee Gees – brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb – have earned their stature as one of the world’s most popular and bestselling groups of all time. Having recorded 22 studio albums and for numerous soundtracks, including the monumentally successful Saturday Night Fever, the Bee Gees infused popular culture with dozens of worldwide hit singles that featured their singular and highly influential three-part harmonies. They achieved nine Number Ones and 23 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, including “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Night Fever,” and “Stayin’ Alive” from Saturday Night Fever, and hit charts around the world with many other classics, including “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart,” “I Started A Joke,” “Lonely Days,” “Words,” and “You Win Again.”
Among the honors bestowed upon the Bee Gees are five GRAMMY Awards®, as well as The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Legend Award, and President’s Award; five American Music Awards; a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music; and a Legend Award from the World Music Awards. They have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, BMI Icons, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and the Dance Music Hall of Fame.
