Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy continues tour in tribute of Emerson Lake & Palmer's 50th Anniversary

After his Fall 2021 Tour, prog rock drummer/musician Carl Palmer will return this January to the US with his second round of live shows since 2019. These shows, which will feature only Palmer and his band continue the musician’s return to live performances since the onset of the pandemic.

The tour will kick off on January 27 in Jacksonville, FL, with three previously postponed dates appearing with The Alan Parson Live Project in Florida. Those appearances will be followed with a dozen additional shows featuring an evening with Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy.

“Our Fall 2021 tour was first time since the pandemic hit that we were able to be together and perform,” said Palmer. “The response was remarkable and proved to us that live music was in great demand once again. The band and myself cannot wait to get out there once again for the Winter tour."

The multi-media show consists of ELP’s best loved material performed to original artistic film clips and archival footage spanning ELP’s career. In addition to Palmer, the band features Paul Bielatowicz on guitar and vocals; and Simon Fitzpatrick on bass and Chapman stick. Carl will even take the microphone to sing “Benny The Bouncer.”

Carl Palmer, who was voted by ROLLING STONE as one of the 10 Greatest Drummers of All Time, is a founding member of both EMERSON LAKE & PALMER and ASIA. Since he began in the business in the 1960s Carl Palmer's music has sold over 50 million records. In 2011 he began working with a three-piece power trio; guitar, bass and drums. In 2019, the group added vocals from guitarist Bielatowicz and Palmer.

“These dates are part of a three-year drive to promote ELP’s 50th Anniversary and beyond,” says Palmer, its sole surviving member. The celebration period also includes the recent release of a limited edition expansive biography of the band; a new Palmer art collection based on the five main ELP studio albums; a documentary; KARN EVIL 9, a major Hollywood film (now in development with Radar Pictures) and a special tour announcement that will reunite Palmer in performance with the late Emerson & Lake through modern technology. Brothers Osborne to release deluxe edition of 'Skeletons' next month

Brothers Osborne announce the deluxe edition of their GRAMMY-nominated album Skeletons, releasing January 21. Scoring a nod for Best Country Album at the upcoming 64th GRAMMY Awards, the critically acclaimed project includes the new tracks “Headstone,” “Midnight Rider’s Prayer,” and “Younger Me.” Pre-order Brothers Osborne’s Skeletons Deluxe HERE.

“Headstone” is produced by Jay Joyce while “Midnight Rider’s Prayer” was recorded at John Osborne’s home studio and co-produced by the duo and, with Willie Nelson’s personal blessing, uses elements of “On the Road Again.” “Younger Me,” also currently GRAMMY-nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance, rounds out the Skeletons Deluxe track list.

The reigning CMA Vocal Duo of the Year performed “Younger Me” at this year’s CMA Awards and TJ prefaced the performance by sharing, "for many years I would watch this show, year after year, and I always thought how incredible it’d be and I’d dream of being here on this stage, and there were so many things that were so many hurdles for me. AXS-TV is partnering with Artists Den to showcase select episodes of the performance series Live From The Artists Den—making its network premiere on Wednesday, January 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The series joins AXS TV’s popular story-centered Wednesday night music lineup, which also includes a slate of acclaimed music documentaries airing each week at 9 p.m. ET.

Live From The Artists Den captures an eclectic blend of entertainers from across the music spectrum, as they take the stage in a meaningful venue that has made an impact on their lives and careers. From hometown haunts to picturesque mountain landscapes, the series grants a unique glimpse inside each venue and presents candid artist reflections interspersed throughout the set.

The season showcase kicks off on January 12 with Imagine Dragons, who perform at the historic Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles for an event featuring singles such as “Demons,” “It’s Time,” and “Radioactive.” Then, on January 19, Robert Plant plays Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium with his Band Of Joy for a career-spanning set including Led Zeppelin classics and solo hits such as “Gallows Pole,” “Ramble On,” and “House Of Cards,” joined by Buddy Miller and Patty Griffin.

Elsewhere, Lady A perform “Need You Now,” “American Honey” and more at the United Palace Theatre in Manhattan; as well as The Killers doing hits such as “Mr. Brightside,” “All These Things That I’ve Done,” and “Human” at NYC’s Capitale venue; and Sheryl Crow's 10-song set features “All I Wanna Do,” “Steve McQueen,” “If It Makes You Happy,” and “Every Day Is A Winding Road” from New York City’s Grand Ballroom of the Plaza.

The season continues with OneRepublic at Utah’s Park City Live; Tim McGraw’ at The Corinthian in downtown Houston; Ringo Starr joining Ben Harper and Joan Osborne for a blended set that includes “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Photograph,” and “With A Little Help From My Friends” from the Egyptian wing in New York’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art; The Wallflowers return to Bay Area staple Bimbo’s 365 Club, featuring “One Headlight,” “6th Avenue Heartache,” and “Closer To You”; and Alabama Shakes at Nashville’s Loveless Barn.

AXS TV's New Year’s Weekend slate has network premieres of Kiss, Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks

On New Year’s Weekend, AXS has several cool concerts lined up.

The New Year’s Eve party kicks off on December 31 with a pair of AXS TV network premieres - KISS Rocks Vegas at 8 p.m. ET— during their residency at The Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, where they perform “Rock And Roll All Nite,” “Psycho Circus,” “Black Diamond,” “Love Gun,” “Detroit Rock City” and more.

Then there's Def Leppard's Vegas concert with two stages, video walls and rare cuts such as “Too Late For Love,” “Billy’s Got A Gun,” and “Slang,” and acoustic renditions of “Two Steps Behind,” “Let Me Be The One,” and “We Belong” during Def Leppard: Hits Vegas. Kid Rock closes out the night.

New Year's Day's classic concerts, starts at 10 a.m. ET as Fleetwood Mac reunite for a set fueled by favorites such as “Rhiannon,” “Don’t Stop,” and “Dreams” in Fleetwood Mac – The Dance. 

Other highlights include performances from Chicago, Cyndi Lauper, Heart, Peter Frampton and Tom Petty. The block is headlined by the AXS TV network premiere of Stevie Nicks – 24 Karat Gold at 8 p.m. ET. Filmed over two nights, it finds the acclaimed songstress sharing intimate stories and performing an array of rarities and hits including “Gold And Braid,” “Gypsy,” “Belle Fleur,” “Landslide,” and more.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday, January 2 with performances by Stevie Nicks and Bad Company, as well as The Who performing in The Who: TOMMY – Live At The Royal Albert Hall; and Van Morrison. 

A pair of The Top Ten Revealed episodes spotlight “80s Ladies” and "Debut Albums Of 1981,” followed by an all-new episode breaking down the essential “Debut Albums Of 1982” at 8 p.m. ET. The block concludes at 8:30 p.m. ET with the premiere of Rock Legends: Post-Punk, an in-depth examination of the late-‘70s avant-garde wave that put standouts like Talking Heads, Joy Division, and The Cure on the modern music map.

David Bowie's 'Hunky Dory' to be issued as limited edition 50th anniversary picture disc

Today marks the 50th anniversary of David Bowie’s classic fourth studio album, Hunky Dory. To celebrate, Parlophone Records announces details for two very special releases to mark the album’s Golden Jubilee.

A streaming single “Changes (2021 Alternative Mix)” is available now and has been mixed from the original multi tracks by Hunky Dory producer Ken Scott. Of this new mix, Scott says, "The new version of ‘Changes’ is a fresh look at Bowie’s classic. When listening to the original multi-track I discovered a few things that I had eliminated from the original mix and also a completely different sax solo at the end. It was those things that led me to try a new mix, trying for a slightly harder, more contemporary edge to it.”

On January 7th, 2022, one day before Bowie’s 75th birthday and 50 years to the day since the U.K. release of “Changes” as a single, Hunky Dory will be issued as a limited edition 50th anniversary picture disc, featuring the 2015 vinyl remaster and a poster featuring the annotated back cover image of the album. The picture disc is available now for pre-order at Rhino.com.

Although now widely acknowledged as one of the best albums of all time, Hunky Dory didn’t make a dent on the U.K. album charts upon its 1971 release. It wasn't until August 1973 that it finally peaked in the U.K. top 5 in the wake of a reissue of “Life on Mars?” following the 1972 release of Bowie’s breakthrough album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars.

Despite being one of Bowie’s most recognizable songs, “Changes” was never a top 40 hit in the U.K., although it did peak at 41 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1975. It has long since stood alongside “Life on Mars?” as one of the several beloved Bowie classics featured on Hunky Dory, which also include “Kooks,” “Queen Bitch,” Oh! You Pretty Things,” “Quicksand,” and “The Bewlay Brothers.”

The Masked Singer' winner Jewel releases EP of her songs from the series

Grammy-nominated artist singer Jewel, the winning contestant on season 6 of the hit singing competition series “The Masked Singer” has released a covers EP of material performed on the show, titled ‘QUEEN OF HEARTS.’

Disguised as the Queen of Hearts, Jewel did performances of “La Vie En Rose” by Édith Piaf, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” Sia's "Bird Set Free" and “River” by Bishop Briggs.

Her Queen of Hearts costume was a subtle nod to her name with its jewel-shape, while other clues touched on moments spanning her entire life. She mentioned growing up in a house that lacked warmth, a nod to her early upbringing at a cabin in Alaska. Then in a clues video, a reference to the tin man from “The Wizard of Oz” relates to Jewel’s memorable portrayal of Dorothy as part of 1995’s “The Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True.” Another reference to childhood storybooks included imagery of an “Alice in Wonderland” tea party; Jewel’s sixth studio album from 2006 was titled ‘Goodbye Alice in Wonderland.’

Jewel said, “Performing on the Masked Singer was fun for me because it allowed me to pay homage to songs that inspired me to be a songwriter and a singer, like ‘La Vie En Rose’ and ‘She’s Got You.’ Those have long been favorites, and being able to pour myself into these heroic songs to challenge myself vocally was really wonderful. It was also fun because I was able to pull from all genres and all eras, which a person rarely gets to do. That is why I was inspired to release all the songs I chose; I had so much fun interpreting these songs that I wanted to share them!”

The EP follows the 25th anniversary reissue of her multi-platinum debut ‘Pieces of You,’ released in 2020. Jewel is also set to release her first new studio album in seven years in early 2022. More details on the new album will be shared soon.

The band Asia has a new concert box set out now

Since I interviewed founding ASIA member Geoff Downes earlier this year (find it elsewhere on this blog), I'm really looking forward to hearing this...

Multi-platinum selling English rock supergroup ASIA has released a 10-CD boxset, The Official Live Bootlegs Volume 1 via BMG Records. The set chronicles five complete performances of the original line-up captured between 1982 and 2010. There is also a digital album (also called The Official Live Bootlegs Volume 1) featuring a selection of 24 tracks taken from the full boxset.

Issued just prior to the band’s 40th Anniversary in 2022, the The Official Live Bootlegs Volume 1 box set is helping to kick off a period of celebration for ASIA fans worldwide.

ASIA THE OFFICIAL LIVE BOOTLEGS VOL 1

ASIA: Geoff Downes (The Buggles, YES, keyboards), Steve Howe (YES, guitars), Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer, drums) and John Wetton (King Crimson, UK, bass/vocals), put out their eponymous debut album in 1982 and it was globally the biggest-selling album of the year, plus the hit single Heat of the Moment.

The Official Live Bootlegs Volume 1 celebrates the concert tours that followed ASIA’s first two albums in 1982 and 1983. The success continued following ASIA’s 25th anniversary reunion in 2006 and three more acclaimed albums. The slipcase boxset features 5 x 2CD concerts from 1982 (Buffalo, NY, USA), 1983 (Worcester, MA, USA), 2007 (São Paulo, Brazil), 2008 (Tokyo, Japan) and 2010 (London, UK).

“This historical collection represents some of our finest and most defining live moments,” says Geoff Downes, “from the very first ASIA tour in 1982 and the Alpha tour the following year through three of our many ‘Reunion’ shows. The sets for ASIA’s original 1980s tours featured only the band’s new music. For the ‘Reunion’ years tours, ASIA included heritage tracks from each of the band member’s pre-ASIA groups. The 2007 and 2008 concerts also feature the Wetton/Howe composition Ride Easy, a song omitted from the debut album that was issued as the B-side of Heat of the Moment and included in their later live repertoire as a thank you to their fans for their support over a quarter of a century.

This the first time these recordings have been made officially available by ASIA and they are presented together in a superb collector’s edition boxset with original artwork by Roger Dean, who created all of ASIA’s album artwork.
