Chicago-based singer-songwriter Michael McDermott will release Out From Under via Pauper Sky Records on April 27. It is his first stateside offering since 2016’s release of Willow Springs. He released several albums over the years in the US to significant critical acclaim. Pre-order Out From Under through MichaelMcDermott.com
Willow Springs reached No. 1 on the EuroAmerican charts. Out From Under contains several autobiographical songs.
“They say, ‘You’re as sick as your secrets,’ and for a long time I was very sick. This record is a big step in being honest and less sick. In some ways, I feel like I’m living out the title of that book The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner. I stumbled, I fell, and I hurt a lot of people. But I’m back up and I’m still running the race. I use everything I’ve been through, and that makes me stronger – and I think it makes my music more meaningful,” said McDermott.
He produced and recorded Out From Under at his home facility, Pauper Sky Studio, in Willow Springs, Illinois. In addition to vocals, he played guitar, bass, piano, and keyboards, and then called up band members and guest players – some in the studio, others who contributed remotely – to fill out the sound. His wife, Heather Lynne Horton, a recording artist in her own right, sang backups and played fiddle.
In support of the release, McDermott will embark on a US and European tour, kicking the US portion of the tour on March 23+25 with two appearances at Chicago’s City Winery. Then he will hit a several-week European tour, that will start at Arnemoen Gård in Ringebu and end with an appearance at the The Slaughtered Lamb in London. Upon his return to the states, McDermott will finish out the year touring a string of dates that can be found on his website. Full US and Europe tour dates below.
