The Mavericks look to 'Brand New Day,' Ryman gig

I always look forward to new music from these guys, whose last couple efforts have landed on my year-end lists.

The Mavericks have announced the March 31 release of Brand New Day, the first independent studio album on their own label Mono Mundo Recordings/Thirty Tigers.

Brand New Day expresses how we feel about the journey we’re on, as a band, as a family, as a nation, as a world,” Mavericks member Raul Malo explains to Rolling Stone. “Now more than ever, we’re going to need to be more compassionate, more understanding, more loving than ever before.”

After many years on major labels, the Grammy-winning Americana group set a new course with the founding of Mono Mundo and the release of their first live album, 2016’s All Night Live, Volume 1.

The 10 songs that make up Brand New Day include the tejano/bluegrass-inspired “Rolling Along,” 1960s flavored “Easy As It Seems,” accordion-fueled shuffle “I Will Be Yours” and more.

After years on major labels, the Grammy winning Americana band set a new course with the founding of Mono Mundo and the release of their first live album, 2016’s All Night Live, Vol. 1.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, leader Raul Malo said the new material reflects the journey they're on (see full track listing below).

The Mavericks formed in Miami in the late '80s, eventually moving to Nashville and launching what would be an incredible career that featured hits, sold out tours and the creation of a large and loyal fan base. The Mavericks created a one-of-a-kind sound that seamlessly blended elements of rock, Latino, folk, blues, country and more. Following a nine year hiatus, The Mavericks re-formed in 2012 going on to release two more highly acclaimed studio albums and toured relentlessly bringing their exhilarating live shows to longtime fans and new generations worldwide.

Led by the mesmerizing vocals of Raul Malo, the driving swing of drummer Paul Deakin, the masterful playing of guitarist Eddie Perez and eccentric style of keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden, The Mavericks have once again solidified themselves as a seminal musical force, both live and in the studio.

A special Brand New Day album release show will be at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on March 31. Tickets go on sale Jan. 13. Details HERE
