Another Neil Diamond and Rick Rubin album collaboration due in May

Neil Diamond will unveil Wild At Heart, his third – and final – entry in his acclaimed collaboration album series with producer Rick Rubin, on May 8 via Capitol/UMe.

The songs were initially done at sessions for Diamond’s chart-topping Home Before Dark in '08. Before that, the pair teamed up with Rubin on 2005’s 12 Songs. Home Before Dark was Diamond's first #1 album on the Billboard charts.

“My work with Rick was a labor of love,” Neil says, “and I’m so gratified that these songs will finally be set free into the world to complete our trilogy of work.”

Recently revisiting this material, Diamond spent time fleshing out nine new songs to be released for the first time and closed the set with an alternate take of “Forgotten,” which appeared on Home Before Dark.

Wild At Heart formats include CD, vinyl, and digital platforms; limited edition colored vinyl and 2CD versions will also be available. Preorder and Listen to the title track to Wild At Heart HERE.

In anticipation of Wild At Heart’s release, digital Deluxe Editions of 12 Songs and Home Before Dark are now available and include the debut of bonus tracks previously available on limited physical releases. Listen to 12 Songs HERE and Home Before Dark HERE.

Among those on the Home Before Dark sessions: keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell (both from Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers), along with session guitarist Smokey Hormel (beck) and guitarist Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Will Oldham).

“Working with these guys and having Rick’s ear made it a great deal of fun,” Diamond told Billboard in 2008. “It was magic.”

Diamond, who starred in the 1980 film The Jazz Singer, has seen his life and music turned into the hit Broadway musical A Beautiful Noise. The show debuted in New York City in 2022, and with over 650 performances and was one of the longest-running new musicals on Broadway since the pandemic. Beautiful Noise launched its first tour in 2024 and continues to tour across America with performances set to open in Australia in August, 2026. Listen to the Original Broadway Cast Recording of A Beautiful Noise, The Neil Diamond Musical, HERE.

In addition, Focus Features released Song Sung Blue on December 25, a musical drama starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. Directed by Craig Brewer and based on a true story, the film follows two down-on-their-luck musicians who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band. The movie has been a huge success, with Hudson receiving Oscar, SAG Actor Award, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominations, and will be released via international streaming in late Spring.

Eagles' 'One of These Nights' album to get Deluxe Reissue in May

Red Rockers set to release live 2023 reunion album 'It's in Our Blood' in May

I'm always keenly interested in news revolving around alt-rock bands whose heyday was during the Eighties. Read on for info on another promising release from Liberation Hall Records...

'It’s in Our Blood,' a 2023
Red Rockers live set recorded in the band’s hometown of New Orleans, drops May 22 via Liberation Hall. Formats include Blu-ray, translucent red vinyl LP, CD, and digital, with the Blu-ray featuring bonus tracks.

Pre-order at Bandcamp. The first digital single, “Peer Pressure,” is out now.

Best known for the 1983 college radio and MTV hit “China,” the group broke up in 1985, but reunited in 2023. That year, original members John Thomas Griffith (lead vocals, guitar), James Singletary (lead guitar, vocals) and Darren Hill (bass, vocals) reconvened to help promote an expanded edition reissue of '81 debut album 'Condition Red,' which appeared on Liberty Spike Recordings. The trio were then joined by drummer Bryan Barberot to perform the album in its entirety at Tipitina’s. It was that show that provides the audio for 'It’s in Our Blood.'

Both the LP and CD feature 15 tracks, including covers of “I’m So Bored with the USA” by the Clash and “My Generation” by the Who (the latter in a medley with “Condition Red”). The Blu-ray adds a cover of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” and two band originals, “China” and “Nothing to Lose.”

Lemon Twigs urge fans to 'Look for Your Mind' in May; tour sooner

The Lemon Twigs' new album, Look For Your Mind!, is scheduled for May 8, with a video for its lead single “I Just Can’t Get Over Losing You.” It contains an undercurrent of paranoia and suspicion. “I do think that now is a time of insanity,” admits co-leader Brian D'Addario. “You really have to hold onto your own mind if you don’t wanna lose it.”

New to this album is the inclusion of the live members Reza Matin (drums) and Danny Ayala (bass), as well as Eva Chambers of Tchotchke. With the D’Addario brothers, Brian and Michael, previously having handled everything in the studio themselves, this shows a newfound sense of freedom.

The manner in which The Lemon Twigs surprise is a constant and testament to their vision and abilities. “Every time we try to write something that's completely straightforward, we can't help adding an element which comes out of left field. We always want to write a song we’ve never heard before,” says Brian.

Alongside the album announcement, The Lemon Twigs are also announcing 2026 spring and summer tour that includes shows in the US, Canada, and elsewhere.

The Lemon Twigs’ two previous Captured Tracks albums, A Dream Is All We Know (2024) and Everything Harmony (2023), certainly indicated something of a ground zero in their then five album career. “It was the beginning of making records that we would listen to ourselves,” says Michael D’Addario, the younger Twig brother, now aged 26. By the time of A Dream Is All We Know and the future Michael classic “My Golden Years”, The Lemon Twigs’ new era had truly begun.

Death Cab for Cutie to return with new studio album, tour this summer

Anti-Records
Death Cab for Cutie – Benjamin Gibbard, Nicholas Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper and Zac Rae – announce their 11th studio album. I Built You A Tower, will be released on June 5 via ANTI- Records.

The move marks the band’s return to their independent roots after 20 years on Atlantic Records. Produced and engineered by John Congleton and assembled from three weeks of sessions, I Built You A Tower was recorded at Animal Rites in Los Angeles, as well as the band members’ homes in Seattle, Bellingham, Los Angeles and Portland.

Alongside the album announcement, Death Cab for Cutie share the album’s first single, “Riptides.” "’Riptides’ is about the challenge of dealing with personal struggles as the world around us experiences tragedy and loss on an unfathomable scale,” says Gibbard. “And how when these two elements intertwine themselves in our psyches, it feels utterly paralyzing." Listen to the song and watch its Jason Lester-directed video HERE.

In recent years, Death Cab celebrated several historic milestones, including massive sold-out tours celebrating the 20th anniversaries of seminal releases Transatlanticism and Plans. Those tours were pivotal to the creation of I Built You A Tower, as behind the scenes, Gibbard weathered the greatest pressure of his professional life — fronting both Death Cab and the Postal Service on arena stages for hours a night — while struggling with the collapse of his personal life in the background. The strain felt too much for one person to bear, and the “tower” originated as a way to protect himself. “There’s this need to find a place in ourselves to put loss and grief,” he explains. “A place that can hold it so we can move on with our lives. But there are these moments where the trauma breaks out of that shell we created for it.”

I Built You A Tower is an album of reconciling with past selves in order to locate a new future. “The anniversary tours exorcised any nostalgia in our systems,” Depper observes. “We felt part of this powerful force greater than all of us and went into the studio with a sense of, how can we capture that feeling and put it into something new?” Harmer continues, “The whole experience of this record got us back to the earliest versions of this band: If the musicians in the room like what we’re working on, that’s enough. We reconnected with the confidence that comes with that.” As such, this is not the dreaded “return to form” narrative, but a reclamation of a core ethos that has run through Death Cab’s 30-year history.

The band recently announced a North American summer tour, which is on sale now. These performances come on the heels of a sold-out global tour in marking the 20th anniversary of Transatlanticism plus their acclaimed 10th studio effort, 2022’s Asphalt Meadows.
