Juliana Hatfield's 'Lightning Might Strike' arrives in December

Juliana Hatfield's new single “Scratchers” is out with a new video. It is from her 21st solo album Lightning Might Strike, available December 12 via American Laundromat Records. Pre-orders are currently available for CD, cassette, and LP in 4 vinyl color options. Signed copies, limited-edition bundles, and test pressings are also available. Learn more at American Laundromat Records.

The album captures a period of major change. “It was a difficult time for me when I started working on this album. I had just uprooted myself from the city apartment building where I’d been living for twenty years to a house in a more rural town two hours away where I knew no one when one of my best friends died (‘Ashes’), and then my dog died (‘Constant Companion’), then my mother was diagnosed with esophagus cancer (‘Scratchers’). I was pretty depressed for a solid year (‘Long Slow Nervous Breakdown’) and was lost and very lonely (‘Harmonizing With Myself’). I was thinking about fate and circumstance and about how I’d ended up where I was (‘Where Are You Now’).”

Track Listing:

1. Fall Apart (3:38)
2. Long Slow Nervous Breakdown (2:30)
3. Popsicle (3:20)
4. My House Is Not My Dream House (3:36)
5. Harmonizing With Myself (3:31)
6. Scratchers (3:31)
7. Constant Companion (4:01)
8. Where Are You Now (3:53)
9. Strong Too Long (3:27)
10. Wouldn't Change Anything (4:09)
11. Ashes (2:55)
12. All I've Got (2:38)

'Wings,' a new retrospective on Paul McCartney & Wings, slated for November

WINGS is a new anthology of the popular band that was a major part of 1970s music. Overseen by Paul McCartney, WINGS will be available on Nov. 7 and includes hits like “Band on the Run, “Live and Let Die,” “Jet” and “Let 'Em In” that still feature in Paul McCartney’s live shows to this day.

All physical formats come with a booklet including an introduction from Paul. Configurations include the 3LP Limited Edition Color Vinyl collection, 1CD and 1LP. Both 3LP and 2CD editions include an expanded 32-page booklet featuring photographs, artwork, paintings, trivia, and information about the band.

Artwork for WINGS was overseen alongside Paul by Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell of Hipgnosis -- the iconic design studio that worked with Paul for seven Wings albums, including Band on the Run, Venus and Mars, Wings Over America, and Wings Greatest. The expanded booklet includes extensive album-by-album notes on the artwork written by Po, with additional editorial by Pete Paphides, and features original artwork by Humphrey Ocean – who first worked with Wings on some of the artwork for Wings at the Speed of Sound before being invited by Paul and Linda on tour in 1976 as their artist in residence — rendering behind-the-scenes sketches of the band.

The Blu-ray version of WINGS is the first time Wings songs are available on a physical format in Dolby Atmos. See a complete list of formats and/or preorder: WINGS Collection

Gorillaz, led by Damon Albarn, announce 2026 return with 'The Mountain'

Gorillaz will release a new studio album, The Mountain, on March 20 via Kong. First track "The Happy Dictator (feat. Sparks)" is out now, listen HERE. Watch visualizer HERE.

The Mountain is Gorillaz’ ninth studio album. It features Johnny Marr, Sparks, Paul Simonon of The Clash, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals, IDLES, and more, plus the voices of friends and collaborators who have gone before us, including Dennis Hopper, Bobby Womack, Mark E Smith of The Fall, and Tony Allen.

Artists perform in five languages on the album: Arabic, English, Hindi, Spanish and Yoruba.

The artwork for The Mountain sees visual artist Jamie Hewlett again handle the hand-drawn images which capture Murdoc, Noodle, Russel and 2D’s time in India working on the new album, available both as a book and as a collection of 12x12 prints.

A tour will visit arenas across the UK and Ireland in Spring 2026, and follows the sold-out 5-star House of Kong exhibition and four performances at the UK's Copper Box Arena. A
one-off headline show at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20 has support from Sparks. Dates and ticket information below and at Gorillaz.com.

Circumstances now find Murdoc Niccals, Russel Hobbs, 2D and Noodle in India, having made their way to Mumbai with the help of four fake passports courtesy of a New York business acquaintance of Murdoc. The band has turned its back on international pop stardom, with our heroes now immersed in the rhythms of mystical music-making, as they navigate the mountainous terrain of this thing called life.

Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs said - “As space dust we are here forever and that’s a mighty long time. This is a musical meditation infused with light. A journey of the soul, with beats…“

Fans around the world celebrated the return of Kong Studios - the home of Gorillaz. The band’s HQ since early 2000 (before falling into disrepair and eventually being burnt to the ground by Murdoc in 2008), the original Kong Studios was a ground-breaking virtual gathering place for fans, allowing them to connect and explore the band’s living quarters and recording studio, listen to music, play games, fight zombies, and much more. Now faithfully restored to its former glory, Kong Studios is back with a fresh lick of paint as a gamified, online fan experience. Visit Kong Studios HERE.

The Mountain will be available in the following formats: Digital Download; Standard CD; Deluxe 2CD (incl. selection of Mystery Show live tracks); Standard Vinyl; Hardback Book Vinyl Edition; Limited Edition Collectors Box (incl. Art Prints). Pre-order HERE.

Expanded reissue of Dream Syndicate's second album 'Medicine Show' to arrive in October, with U.S. tour to follow

After a long-protracted debate with Universal Music Group – Dream Syndicate revealed that it has earned the right to reissue their sophomore album Medicine Show from 1984 as a new, 42 song 4CD box expanded collection featuring 29 unreleased recordings from the band's 1983-84 era via their own Down There label, distributed by Fire Records.

This expanded deluxe edition CD collection features previously unreleased 1983-84 live recordings, radio sessions, rehearsals, demos and other unreleased from the band’s archive. A stand alone classic original album will also be available on vinyl.

A North American tour runs from 11/1-12/14. Click here to purchase tickets

“Let’s see—it took 6 months to make and over 30 years to get Medicine Show back in print,” said Steve Wynn of The Dream Syndicate. “I’d like to think that in both cases it was worth the wait. I can’t wait to get out there and revisit, inhabit and play the whole album on stage every night.”

The box set offers for the first time ever, the complete WXRT radio broadcast from the master tape (the original A&M Live LP was truncated) – plus rehearsal and live tapes of original bassist Kendra Smith – just before she exited the band.

The unreleased tracks are part of the untold story of Medicine Show – early primitive versions of original songs, cover songs that the band mangled into new forms, finding themselves along the way. No longer, can anyone say “you should have heard the original 1982 lineup on stage” – no, if you skipped the band performing 1983-84, you missed out. Shows from CBGB’s, Zaders, Soap Creek – reveal incendiary magic. In addition to the live shows, the remastered studio album (from the original analog tapes), now sounds as Steve recently declared, “as I remember hearing it while we mixed it”

Like many other psychologically complex albums upon their release, Lou’s Berlin, Neil’s On the Beach, Big Star Third, John Lennon’s solo debut Plastic Ono Band, The Who’s Quadrophenia, Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks - it takes a while, sometimes a long while to let it marinate into the psyche of the listener. The Medicine Show has arrived – long overdue.

For those who have read Steve Wynn’s recent memoir I Wouldn’t Say It If It Wasn’t True (Jawbone Press, 2024) – you know about the ‘breakdown’ he suffered while recording this album.

Reissue producer/band historian Pat Thomas listened to dozens of rare tapes, choosing what needed to be mastered.

Boz Scaggs to make long-awaited album return in October

Singer/guitarist Boz Scaggs will release 'Detour,' which focuses on the Great American Songbook, on October 17 via Concord Records. It is his first new studio album in seven years. The first single is “I’ll Be Long Gone,” a newly arranged take on the fan-favorite track, also on Scaggs' 1969 self-titled debut.

“I had no intention of making a record when I started singing these songs,” Scaggs confesses. “It was all very casual at first, just an opportunity to explore a style of music I’ve always liked, to get together with a friend and play for the sheer joy of it.”

That friend is pianist Seth Asarnow, and their informal sessions together became the heart of Detour. The album started as a series of personal demos for Scaggs to expand his vocal stylings. The result is a mix of the familiar and the obscure that tips its hat to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Irma Thomas and others.

“If I look at myself as a musician over the years, I’d have to consider my primary instrument to be my voice,” he says. The veteran musician tackles Allen Toussaint’s “It’s Raining,” “The Very Thought Of You” and he revisited “I’ll Be Long Gone” at the suggestion of pianist Seth Asarnow. “I get a lot of requests for it,” Scaggs explains, “he put together this beautiful arrangement... it ended up falling in perfectly with everything else we did for this album.”

Track listing:

1. It's Raining
2. Angel Eyes
3. Once I Loved
4. The Very Thought of You
5. I'll Be Long Gone
6. Detour Ahead
7. I Could Have Told You
8. The Meaning of the Blues
9. Tomorrow Night
10. Too Late Now
11. We'll Be Together Again

Out Friday: Belinda Carlisle's Classic Pop Covers Album 'Once Upon a Time in California'

Belinda Carlisle - who wowed Coachella Festival crowds last spring with The Go-Go's - releases her ninth solo album and the first devoted solely to cover tunes, 'Once Upon a Time in California' on Friday via Demon Music.

This thoroughly enchanting collection represents the singer's first full-length studio effort since 2017's 'Wilder Shores' (the Diane Warren-penned 'Kismet' EP arrived in 2023). The 10 tracks on 'Once Upon a Time in California,' primarily spanning 1965-75, were ones that Carlisle listened to on AM pop radio as a young girl in LA and helped inspire her to become a singer. Carlisle owned three of the chosen selections on 7" vinyl singles back then. Astute followers will recognize three covers from prior collections.

For Carlisle's take on the Harry Nilsson hit “One” (a #5 hit for Three Dog Night in 1969), she went for a jazz-styled approach that concludes with manic piano work and said in a press release, "I've never done anything like this before, so I think it might be a surprise for some of my fans." Another Nilsson number, "Everybody's Talkin'," from the "Midnight Cowboy" soundtrack, contains glorious vocals.

About The Hollies-popularized "The Air That I Breathe" (done with full-bodied vocals on 'California'), Carlisle stated, "this song has always been one of my very favorites growing up. I love the lyrics and the complicated melody. This was on the list I originally made of songs that I wanted to sing if I ever did a cover album. During the pandemic, I started performing karaoke style on my Instagram every Saturday and called it “Saturday Serenades.” This one got such a good response that I thought 'This definitely should be a contender for the album.' I'm so happy with the way it turned out."

Additionally, Carlisle said her upbeat version of The Youngbloods’ “Get Together” was initially lyrically relevant "when it was released during the Vietnam war and it's relevant today with all of the craziness going on in our world. I recorded it firstly because I love it and secondly because I think it is perfect for this time."

Bacharach & David's "Anyone Who Had a Heart," best known for the hit Dionne Warwick rendition, kicks the 'California' album off in fine dramatic fashion.

Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind," featuring elegant, intricate acoustic guitar, a sublime string section, a sweeping thrust and prominent female backing vocals, is simply gorgeous, bettering the original.

Another standout here is Leon Russell & Bonnie Bramlett's "Superstar," popularized by The Carpenters. Carlisle's joyous chorus vocal delivery along with a bittersweet melody, is superb.

All told, 'Once Upon a Time in California' is a must-have for fans of Belinda Carlisle's solo career hits like "Heaven is a Place on Earth," "Circle in the Sand," and "I Get Weak."

Available configurations include CD, vinyl and digital. Order HERE
