Sheryl Crow news

Sheryl Crow's upcoming studio release, Pick You Up, is due October 9. It was written by Crow and long-time collaborator Jeff Trott and will be released via Old Green Barn Productions LLC. Pre-order, pre-add, and pre-save HERE.

The first single, “Freedom Bus,” featuring Jesse Welles, is now available on all major streaming platforms and digital retailers HERE

About “Freedom Bus,” Crow said, “I do not take freedom lightly because our freedom has been paid for in the lives of others throughout history and that is something I wish we could all remember when we are interacting with each other. Our dialogue and ability to disagree must reflect what has been paid for in the blood, sweat, and tears of those who fought for every man and woman to be created equal and to enjoy the rights that our constitution has allowed each of us.”

The forthcoming release delves into personal reflection while returning to the AAA/Rock/Singer-Songwriter/Americana sound that made Crow popular in the ‘90s.

“Each of these songs are a commentary on being human and wanting connection,” Crow said. “There is a lot of chaos all around us and I definitely find myself feeling alone. My wish is that whoever hears these songs feels the hope I feel when I sing them! I hope these songs feel like a soothing moisturizer on our chapped hearts. We are all going through so much in our humanity right now that being awake can feel like trudging through a burning desert. But we are never alone. And there is beauty everywhere. We just have to keep our eyes open.”

The Pick You Up album artwork features “The Elephant Who Forgot The Ocean” by artist Tyson Grumm, whose surreal, imaginative paintings create a nostalgic world where each image tells a story that is only partially told, allowing viewers to bring their own perspective to complete the work.

A longtime collector of Grumm’s work, Crow first discovered his paintings nearly 20 years ago and has long been drawn to their sense of wonder, playfulness and underlying melancholy. When she recently saw “The Elephant Who Forgot The Ocean” at an auction, she knew it was the image she wanted for Pick You Up. She reached out to Grumm, who agreed to let her use the piece as the album artwork, and she ultimately purchased the original, which now hangs in her home.

Crow will perform on Good Morning America on August 28.

Track List:

“Freight Train”
“Perfect”
“Pick You Up”
“Flat Earth”
“I’ve Got Your Number”
“Heaven Help Us”
“Freedom Bus” (feat. Jesse Welles)

Roxy Music reissue news

Roxy Music's second album For Your Pleasure will see a newly expanded version on November 6 via UMR/Island/EMI Records.

Originally released in 1973,
For Your Pleasure charted in the UK Top 5, went gold there and spawned the live and fan fave "Do the Strand."

Unheard studio recordings, songwriting sketches, rehearsals, outtakes, live sessions and rare unseen performances make up the 2026 edition of For Your Pleasure. The original begged the question Bryan Ferry, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay, Brian Eno and Paul Thompson faced: how do you follow a debut album like Roxy Music?

Bryan Ferry remembers: “It was a good pressure. Realising, now there’s an audience to write for. An intelligent audience. I felt a responsibility for the work that I hadn’t for the first album, certainly with regard to the lyrics. There was a hunger in the whole band to do more: a very strong urge to get back into a recording studio and make a better record than the first one. Nick de Ville had a cottage in Derbyshire, and offered to let me have it for a few days. So I went up there with the sole purpose of writing songs. I had this great little Renault 4, and I filled the car with stuff: keyboards, a guitar, an amp, tape recorders, pads of paper and pens. I remember driving up in this crammed car with its very interesting gear stick. The cottage was quite remote, out in the Derbyshire Dales – I had to call into some local farmer to get the key, then on up a track – and very basic. I must have taken provisions, because I couldn’t cook, but I was full of energy. I was completely alone out there, and just really focused on writing this stuff. I remember sheets of paper all over the floor, working on things like In Every Dream Home A Heartache and Editions Of You. Those few days in that cottage were crucial to the making of For Your Pleasure.”

Fragile cassettes Bryan Ferry recorded in Derbyshire, together with tapes made in his London flat, have survived. They will be released for the first time in more than 50 years as part of the For Your Pleasure 2026 edition.

Released now for the first time, 'Grey Lagoons – 1971 Demo (original title: The Bogus Man Part 2)' is from the For Your Pleasure: Super Deluxe Edition. Recorded in the summer of 1971, the demo formed part of the homemade tape that first brought Roxy Music to the attention of the music press.

The Super Deluxe Edition also premieres two additional unheard recordings of the song, 'Grey Lagoons - Air Studios Outtake' and 'Grey Lagoons - Live at Montreux, April 1973'.

All surviving versions are officially available for the first time as part of the For Your Pleasure 2026 edition. Fans can hear the 1971 demo here.

The 2026 edition of For Your Pleasure will be available in a variety of formats including 2LP (Black vinyl, and in Blue Pearl Vinyl as a D2C Exclusive), 2CD, Digital, Blu-Ray, Dolby ATMOS, and as a 3CD+1DVD Super Deluxe Edition.

The 2CD Deluxe Edition includes the original album, plus AIR Studios outtakes, singles and BBC sessions, presented in a hardcover digibook with a new essay and unseen images.

The 2LP Vinyl edition features the original album, plus AIR Studios outtakes in a gatefold sleeve.

Pre-order via UMR/Island EMI here.

Clay Aiken unveils 'Rewind' in September; Mr. Mister cover out now

Exciting news for Claymates: Clay Aiken will put out Rewind, his first album of mostly original music in nearly two decades on September 25. It follows the singer's return to the "American Idol" stage earlier this year.

The new single "Kyrie" is a cover of the chart-topping 1985 Mr. Mister hit from 1985. It is available to stream now.

Last May, when Aiken returned to the TV competition to debut the high energy dance-pop title track during the season finale. Written by Colton Avery and Grammy-winning producer Dave Audé (Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars, Andy Bell of Erasure) and produced by Audé, “Rewind” was Aiken’s first new original single in 18 years. In 2025, Audé remixed "Invisible" for Aiken. Watch the music video for “Rewind” HERE.

Rewind utilizes contemporary pop production while reflecting where he is today, both personally and musically.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve made an album of new music, and I don’t think I would have made this same album even a few years ago. There’s obviously a little nostalgia in Rewind, but I wasn’t interested in trying to recreate something I did 20 years ago. I wanted to make music that feels like me now. I’m really proud of where we ended up, and I’m excited for people to finally hear the whole thing,” says Aiken.

Rewind will be available across all major digital platforms and can be pre-saved now.

ABOUT CLAY AIKEN

Clay Aiken is a multi-platinum recording artist, television personality, and advocate who first rose to national prominence on season two of American Idol. His debut album Measure of a Man entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and went multi-platinum, while his first single, “This Is The Night,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with record-setting first-week sales.

Over the course of his career, the LGBTQ singer has released multiple albums, headlined national tours, and appeared on Broadway in Monty Python’s Spamalot. His television credits include numerous specials and a runner-up finish on The Celebrity Apprentice. He is also a New York Times bestselling author for his memoir Learning to Sing.

Beyond entertainment, Aiken has maintained a longstanding commitment to advocacy. A former special education teacher, he co-founded the National Inclusion Project, which supports inclusive programming for children with disabilities, and served for nearly a decade as a UNICEF ambassador, traveling globally to promote children’s rights and access to education.

The Black Watch is back with a new album this fall

Prolific LA indie rock band the black watch returns with new album The Fuzzy End of the Lollipop on October 2 through ATOM Records.

"I've declared that The Fuzzy End of the Lollipop is really the end of the black watch, but I've been wrong before," says vocalist, guitarist and songwriter John Andrew Fredrick.

Since this is the 27th album since 1988, one might be inclined to think that all has been said by the band, but for Fredrick who holds a Ph.D. in English, you’d be wrong.  “I'm fascinated by the idea of completion, of endings, but being a mad reader of fiction and poetry, literary criticism and biographies of novelists stimulates me so much. It's all too much, you know. I am so inspired by The Beatles. There is so much there to plunder.”

Frederick worked alongside producer/engineer Rob Campanella, formerly of The Brian Jonestown Massacre (who also plays bass live), and producer Scott Campbell (Stevie Nicks, Shelby Lynne, Acetone) who's been with the band, on and off, since 1991 and Andy Creighton who joined up in 2017 on guitar.

The first single “Marie Bouzkova” was named after the acclaimed Czech tennis player, but the song’s subject matter is about something more basic and fundamental. “Marie is very sweet and kind in person, but the song is really about anyone who is lovely and charming and beautiful to everyone--my favourite sort of person, in other words,” he explains. “Modesty, humility--these things seem to be more and more rare nowadays. Not saying I'm modest or humble, mind you, but I admire both greatly and am trying!”

A seemingly tangential tennis reference point isn’t incidental. A fiercely competitive tennis amateur player himself, Fredrick knows his sport. “I play at Echo Park Tennis Club, surely the least exclusive club in the world,” he says. “$40 a year to join and we take everyone, no matter the level.” An athletic and social construct, members play against each other regardless of skill level and drink beer together. A tennis instructor as well, he teaches the sport to children. “I teach tennis for kids now. Some are utter brats, though…. really horrid kids, but some are hilarious,” he laughs. “Kinda like my theory that only the best and the worst people play adult tennis. Which one do you fancy I am?!!”

With The Fuzzy End of the Lollipop, Fredrick explains, "Our goal this time was to make a record that was so "of a piece" that it would be the sort of album that, once it ends, you just have to spin it again. It's meant to be quite terse and flow like a deep and deadly quiet river."

The black watch is: John Andrew Fredrick (guitar, percussion, vocals) Rob Campanella (guitar, bass) Chandler Fredrick (bass, backing vocals), and Andy Creighton (guitar, bass, drums, string arrangements, backing vocals).

Album pre-orders available now here.

Geoff Downes revives Asia with new lineup; new studio album in November

Co-founding Asia keyboardist Geoff Downes has re-institured the classic rock band with a new lineup. The new studio album, 'Indigo,' will be released on November 6 through Frontiers Music Srl. The first single and official video is “The Traveller (Into The Light)," available now.

Geoff Downes commented:

“The first track off the album is a high-power energy piece, with a few elements of prog trickery but retaining the accessible chorus block, which was always a signature of ASIA’s music from the very beginning. Harry and I started working on this as one of the early ideas that seemed to come together very organically. Virgil’s dynamic and innovative drum parts drive the piece along, while John’s soaring guitars keep the momentum. Harry’s vocals are commanding, and my keyboard parts hold the wall of sound together. It’s a song of great optimism, mainly about looking forward to the future and travelling ‘into the light’. Play it loud!”

Watch the New Official Video for "The Traveller (Into The Light)" HERE

Asia now features Downes alongside Virgil Donati, John Mitchell, and Harry Whitley.

The latest single, “Echo Of You,” is out now along with an official video.

Geoff Downes commented:

“This song was part of the main writing sessions between Harry and I. It took on a whole different angle in the latter stages of development with more of a focus on electronica and a spacey production. It’s a happy uplifting tune, despite the nostalgic overtones of the lyrics, a love song with a twist. It all ends in a chaotic mix of counter themes, chord changes and features a good old-fashioned fadeout as a nod to nostalgia and I believe is a very fitting conclusion to the album – Indigo, hopefully leaving the listener on a high.”

Watch the official video for “Echo Of You” HERE

Downes described the genesis of the album:

“The initial writing period began in 2015, following the release of our previous album 'Gravitas' in 2014. John Wetton and I started putting our ideas together, aiming to get into the studio once more. It was with great sadness that John became seriously ill. During this time, we had put on hold our plans, and sadly, John passed away before we could continue and complete it. So, it was always in my mind that at some point it would be a shame not to finish off some of these songs and finally release them as part of an ASIA album.

“In 2023, when the tribute concert for John took place, I was so encouraged by the response to ASIA’s music that I viewed this as the perfect opportunity to re-establish not only the band, but also to reunite with our long-time supportive label, Frontiers, paving the way for us to get back in the studio”, he continued.

Downes also added:

“So, ASIA was back in the room, so to speak, and we were very fortunate to have recruited Virgil Donati and John Mitchell, both of whom had worked extensively with John before, as well as our new vocalist and bassist, Harry Whitley. The tours followed to great success throughout 2024 and 2025, and finally, we sat down towards the end of last year to record the album. Working with these fine musicians was a great privilege and the music just seemed to flow.”

“The album was really a joy to make. I forged a close writing relationship with Harry, and I felt how great it was to be working with someone who had very similar musical influences and taste once again, just as I did with John. I feel that this is one of our best albums to date. The songs are deep in musicality, with a powerful and original performance, dynamics and strong lyrical undertones – it’s an album that hopefully our fans will widely appreciate and support our cause to put ASIA back on the map. Enjoy the ride!” he concluded.

Recorded throughout 2025, the album was produced by Downes and the band, with mixing and mastering handled by John Mitchell.

'Indigo' includes some of the final compositions written by the late John Wetton: “Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)” and “Chesapeake Bay.”

The album also features guest appearances by original Asia co-founder Steve Howe, who contributes acoustic guitar to “Chesapeake Bay,” while Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) is on the bonus track “Tattoo Indigo (Part 3)."

Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers ready reissues of Grammy-winning 'Conscious Party' in September

UMe will release a new vinyl reissue of Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers' third full-length album Conscious Party on September 25.

This will be the first vinyl pressing of the album since its initial release in 1988. Conscious Party launches in multiple configurations, including limited-edition 1LP 180g Emerald Green color vinyl, 1LP 180g Standard Black vinyl, 1CD, and a digital Deluxe Edition via streaming services.

Pre-order/Pre-save Conscious Party HERE.

Founded in 1979, Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers featured four of Bob Marley’s eleven children in its ranks, namely Sharon, Cedella, Ziggy, and Stephen. The quartet cut the album at Sigma Sound in New York City with producers Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth [Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club].

Following its original release on April 5, 1988, the album spawned the #1 Billboard R&B Chart hit “Tumblin’ Down” and “Tomorrow People.” The latter has notably generated more than 30 million Spotify streams. Conscious Party also took home “Best Reggae Album” at the 1989 GRAMMY® Awards, giving Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers their first of three-career GRAMMY® wins as a group.

“Conscious Party came at a pivotal time for us. I think we grew a lot in-between the last album [Hey World] and Conscious Party. We were exploring a lot, and just growing up and becoming young people. So I feel it represents that young energy, and was a very monumental album in our life at the time,” says Ziggy Marley, adding, “It was a new experience, too. With Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth from the Talking Heads producing it, and we were living in New York for a little bit, it was a whole different and very enlightened experience for us.”

Presenting the definitive vision of Conscious Party, both new vinyl versions now feature “We A Guh Some Sum Weh,” which was previously only available on CD. At the time of its initial release, each format presented the album in a different sequence. The vinyl editions will retain the original LP sequence, with the new-to-vinyl bonus track closing Side 2, while the reactivated CD will be in its original sequence.

Meanwhile, a new digital Deluxe Edition of the album includes remixes of “Tomorrow People” and “Tumblin’ Down”—the latter notable for post-production work by the Bomb Squad team (Hank Shocklee, Eric “Vietnam” Sadler, Keith Boxley) —and as well as a live rendition of “Lee And Molly” captured at the Spectrum in Philadelphia during the band’s 1988 Conscious Party Tour.

Train currently on tour through end of August, when new album 'Mad Dog in the Fog' arrives

Train's latest single “Mad Dog in the Fog” – listen here - is the title track from the San Francisco band's forthcoming 12th studio album, Mad Dog in the Fog, out August 28 via Columbia Records – pre-order now.

Named after a beloved San Francisco neighborhood bar, the album is an ode to the city, celebrating the place, community, and spirit that have remained central to Train’s identity over the last three decades.

It returned to the very same bar to film the accompanying music video, surrounded by the memories of where it all started. The guys performed in the same intimate space that witnessed the band's beginnings and helped shape their earliest days. Watch the “Mad Dog in the Fog” music video here.

Of the album, frontman Pat Monahan shares: “It's been over four years since our last album, and we channeled a special energy into this record that really defines all parts of who we are as a band. Mad Dog in the Fog is one of the first places in San Francisco where Train came together as a band. It was the first venue to pay us to play, and its owner, Cyril, has been one of our biggest champions from the beginning. So it only felt right to name this album in its honor.”

He adds, of the new song: “The title track is out everywhere now, so pull up a stool, grab yourself a drink and give it a listen. If you’ve been with us since the beginning, you might even catch a few familiar names along the way.”

“Mad Dog in the Fog” follows the album’s first two singles “Pennsylvania Turnpike” and “The Weekend.”

Currently Train is on The Drops of Jupiter: 25 Years in the Atmosphere Tour in
North America, with Barenaked Ladies and Matt Nathanson on most dates. Full tour routing can be found below. For tickets and additional information, please visit: SaveMeSanFrancisco.com/tour.

Shonen Knife to perform in LA next week; 'Let's Knife - Recut' out now

Inspired by Sixties girl groups and punk bands like the Ramones, sisters Naoko and Atsuko Yamano formed Osaka, Japan pop-punk trio Shonen Knife in 1981. Soon after, they gained a cult following through songs about candy, animals, food, and more.

The band opened for Sonic Youth at home in 1987, and then in America alongside Redd Kross. There was even a Shonen Knife tribute album in 1991. Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was an unabashed fan, taking the ladies on the road on a European tour before Nevermind arrived. Shonen Knife made regular appearances at such U.S. festivals as Lollapalooza, All Tomorrow's Parties and Riot Fest.

Last month, Shonen Knife put out a re-recording of 1992 album Let's Knife via Good Charamel Records. Label owner Robbie Takac, bassist for the Goo Goo Dolls, executive produced it. The original album was a re-recording of past songs with new English lyrics.

Let's Knife had been unavailable on streaming services and physical editions were out of print, so Naoko (vocals, guitar) and Atsuko (bass, vocals, drums, percussion) Yamano and Risa Kawano (drums, vocals, keyboards, percussion) to faithfully re-recorded fun songs like "Bear Up Bison," "Twist Barbie," "Flying Jelly Attack," "Cycling is Fun," "I am a Cat," "Insect Collector" and more with a modern production.

Shonen Knife performs with Colin Hay's Men at Work and Toad the Wet Sprocket at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles on Aug. 20. More info: theunitedtheater.com, axs.com

Christopher Cross to perform in Chula Vista, Long Beach this week; deluxe reissues out now

Since Christopher Cross will make two SoCal concert appearances this week with Toto and The Romantics, it's a good time to remind Cross fans that last year Omnivore Recordings put out an exceptional expanded edition of his 4x Grammy-winning, eponymous 1979 debut album with a plethora of bonus tracks and All Right: The Worldwide Singles 1980-88.

Over the past decade, the popularity of yacht rock has gained steam and Christopher Cross - commonly derided by music critics at the time - has been reconsidered as a classic of the subgenre in many circles.

Boasting four hit pop singles: “Sailing” (#1), "Ride Like the Wind" (#2), "Never Be the Same" (#15), and "Say You'll Be Mine" (#20), the quintuple platinum album impressively featured backing vocals by Michael McDonald, Don Henley (yacht rock masters in their own right), Eagles co-writer JD Souther and Nicolette Larson, not to mention electric guitar contributions from Larry Carlton and Eric Johnson.

Among the 11 bonus tracks are seven previously unissued demos. A mostly fully formed "Ride Like the Wind" was previously available elsewhere, but because it differs slightly in phrasing, the uninitiated should find it interesting. The sprightly "Mary Ann" - a Japan-only single - could've easily fit on the original nine-track release. Other demos here, such as "Parade," and "Passengers" are strong. Gene Sculatti penned an informative essay for the reissue package. Available in CD and 2LP configurations.

Meanwhile, All Right: The Worldwide Singles 1980-88 collects Cross’ domestic and international A-sides from those years. Available as a 2LP set, it contains the original single versions, and the 2CD counterpart adds B-sides on the second disc. The compilation was remastered and has liner notes by Garrett Price, director of the HBO Original film Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary.

Highlights include all the singles from Christopher Crossthe romantic and engaging #1 Oscar-winning "Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)"; top 40 pop charters “All Right” and “No Time for Talk" off sophomore album Another Page; the luxurious top 10 “Think of Laura” (popularized through its use on the soap opera General Hospital); “A Chance For Heaven (Swimming Theme From The Official Music Of The XXIIIrd Olympiad Los Angeles 1984),” which reached #16 on the Adult Contemporary Charts, and the top 30 “Loving Strangers (David’s Theme From Nothing In Common).

To purchase the albums, go to: omnivorerecordings.com.

Andy Grammer sings about a 'Big Stupid Heart' in October

Andy Grammer, best known for such songs as "Keep Your Head Up" and "Honey, I'm Good," unveiled details of his sixth studio album, Big Stupid Heart, out October 16 via S-Curve Records/Hollywood Records.

Grammer noted, “I wanted to make a record that feels like permission to care deeply again. Big Stupid Heart celebrates the kind of people who refuse to let heartbreak make them cynical. Honestly this is a daily battle for me, it’s my anti cynicism battle cry.”

Unlike 2024 album Monster, which revolved around anger, grief and emotional honesty, Grammer began work on the new album with the intention of answering the turmoil and division he sees unfolding around the world with something sweet, pure and fierce.

“There’s a tension and a divide that is just hard to be in the middle of at this moment in history,” Grammer says. “I’m feeling all the feelings more than I ever have in my life.”

The title track is a bittersweet war cry about refusing to let life harden you.

“There’s kind of a desperation at this moment to stay true to your heart,” Grammer says of the song. “This is a war cry to myself to stay open.”

The album also features “Best Hearts,” which Grammer wrote as part of his podcast, Showing Up With Andy Grammer. The weekly series invites listeners to share stories of people who have shown up for them, with Grammer creating an original song in response as his own act of showing up.

“Best Hearts” was inspired by a mother who left a voicemail describing the strength and kindness her son displayed while battling his own mental health struggles. While receiving treatment, he found the strength to comfort another individual who was also struggling. “Can you write a song about people who are getting crushed but still show up for others in that moment?” she asked Grammer.

That question became the center of “Best Hearts,” a tribute to the people who have been shattered by life and somehow still choose strength, resilience and openness.

In speaking with People Magazine he said: “This album is a type of sound that I’ve wanted to capture for a really long time with anthemic cello pop, and I finally got it. The album is about how much cost there is to loving deeply, and the decision to still do it. Keeping an open heart is the boldest thing anyone can do.”

Grammer will start the Greater Than Pt. II: A One Man Show, which launches in November. The solo concert experience blends Grammer’s biggest hits with candid storytelling, audience interaction and personal moments with fans who want to share their own stories.

Classic Elvis Costello debut album 'My Aim Is True' to get expanded box set treatment this fall

On October 2, UMe will release My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition), a five-CD box set telling the story of how Declan MacManus became Elvis Costello – and how his debut album, recorded in a small London studio, was the first major career step.

The collection contains 104 tracks, demos, masters, outtakes, live performances, interviews, and other rare recordings (52 of them previously unreleased), plus a new 2026 remaster of the original album from the original analog tapes (the vinyl original album is all analog).

Each of its five discs – My Aim Is True, The Blue Print, The Stranger In The House, Becoming The Attractions and Covered In Clover (the only live performance of Costello and Clover) – is accompanied by extensive new writing from Costello, alongside rare and unseen photographs, handwritten lyrics from his notebooks and diary entries from 1976, and lists of songs he was performing solo.

It was produced by Elvis Costello and Steve Berkowitz.

As a preview, Costello has shared a selection of highlights from the box set: “Watching The Detectives” is available to hear as four previously unreleased recordings: the “Pathway Studios Trio Version” (Costello on guitar/vocals, Andrew Bodnar on bass, Steve Goulding on drums), a mix without either the introductory "Spy Guitar" figure or any keyboards added; a solo electric performance from the UK television program Good Afternoon, which aired on September 30, 1977, accompanied by a short excerpt from Costello’s first-ever TV interview; and a live performance with The Attractions from San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on July 8, 1978, alongside the newly remastered 2026 version of the original recording. Stream the tracks HERE.

“When first proposed, I thought the whole idea of celebrating a 50th Anniversary of My Aim Is True was preposterous,” Costello writes at the beginning of the collection. “It made my teeth itch.” He continues: “It couldn’t just be set up like a venerable object in a glass case.”

Instead, My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition) presents the album as the beginning of a still-unfolding story. Its first disc pairs the original album with “Watching The Detectives,” creating a hybrid of the original U.K. and U.S. track listings. Recorded with producer Nick Lowe and the Marin County band Clover during four six-hour sessions at Pathway Studios, the album emerged with little budget, limited overdubbing and Costello singing live on nearly every track.

“Last night I listened to this wonderfully wonky record in its entirety for the first time in about 45 years,” Lowe writes in a new note for the set, recalling Pathway’s unforgettably heady atmosphere of “cigarettes, ill-laundered clothes, exposed electrical units, and urinal disinfectant.” He adds that making the album gave him “the priceless opportunity to observe at close range the extraordinary work of one of the foremost composers of popular song of this or any other era.”

The second disc, The Blue Print, gathers 17 recordings from 1975 and 1976, including 13 previously unreleased. The songs span bedroom tapes, early Pathway recordings and 13 performances from a 1976 session at the Hope & Anchor Studio. Also included is a recording preserved by Costello’s ‘70s contemporary Charlie Dore, who just recently discovered a reel she taped of Costello trying out songs during a blazing London afternoon in 1976.

“The more I’ve delved into these notebooks, the more I’ve come to the conclusion that these handwritten notes might actually be ‘The Blue Print’ for a lot of the work I did over the next five or six years,” Costello writes.

The Stranger In The House contains 28 demos, outtakes and early band recordings, 15 of which have never been released, including every surviving outtake and demo from My Aim Is True. The disc reaches back to Flip City, the band Costello describes as “Pre-Professional:” “In the so-called Pub Rock scene, we barely qualified as also-rans. We were ready and we were willing, but the bookings were few and our progress was slow.” It also includes more of Ms. Dore’s tapes, and follows the evolution of songs including “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes” and “Living In Paradise” through the session that produced “Watching The Detectives.”

Costello’s 72-page liners include commentary and recollections from Nick Lowe, Columbia Records' Gregg Geller, as well as Attractions keyboardist Steve Nieve and drummer Pete Thomas.

The fourth disc, Becoming The Attractions, opens with a solo performance of “Alison,” from Elvis Costello’s U.K. television debut to his first live appearances under his new name. Its 25 tracks, 12 previously unreleased, include live recordings, broadcasts and a Nashville Room soundcheck from the summer of 1977.

Noted music journalist Bill Flanagan chronicles Costello’s arrival in America. Further recollections from Warren Zanes, Rosanne Cash, Peter Wolf (then of the J. Geils Band), and Jim James of My Morning Jacket (a bandmate in the "New Basement Tapes" studio collective) accompany Costello’s account of the first American trip.

The collection closes with Covered In Clover, an entirely unreleased recording of Costello’s 2007 reunion with Clover at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. Performing My Aim Is True in its original U.K. sequence before concluding with “Watching The Detectives,” Costello and the musicians return to the songs they had recorded together three decades earlier.

“Making my first record seemed like the beginning of something that I’d imagined for a long time, before I had any sense of a potential audience, let alone the expectation and the assumptions of others about songs written and performed in mere minutes,” Costello writes. “Nevertheless, I raise a chaste glass to My Aim Is True and all who sail in her.”

My Aim Is True (49th Anniversary Edition) will be released October 2 via UMe as a 5-CD/digital box set. The new remaster of the original album will also be released on 180-gram black vinyl and CD. Pre-order all formats HERE.

Imperial Teen's 'All Over You' album, long awaited tour dates set for October

More than three decades after forming in San Francisco, Imperial Teen returns with All Over You, its first studio album since 2019.

Out October 9 on Merge Records (pre-order), the lead single “Overdrive,” is available now, alongside its official music video. It was written during a late-session burst of inspiration in Provincetown.

The indie pop/alternative band has also announced their first run of tour dates since 2020. They will join The Breeders at San Francisco’s Castro Theatre on August 22-23, followed by a run of headline shows in October spanning both coasts. Tickets for all shows are on sale now.

Each Imperial Teen record reflects what Roddy Bottum (guitars, keyboards, vocals) calls “an episodic piece of where we are now.” Bottum, Will Schwartz (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Jone Stebbins (bass, vocals), and Lynn Truell (drums, vocals)
live in different cities, but did periodic writing retreats followed by scattered recording sessions.

“For the last few records, the process has been similar. We live great distances away from each other, so initially, we get together to collaborate, write, and create. When we have enough material, we reconvene to record. Both scenarios, creating and recording, take multiple trips, sometimes with big lapses of time in between due to our various schedules.”

“Overdrive” came together in a single final take before Schwartz caught a ferry, its vocal captured in what Bottum - also a core member of Faith No More and author -
recalls as a “magical” last-minute session. The title track was initially built over a computer, with Truell's letting out in a scream. “In my head,” Truell says, “I just went back to punk, to that feeling of prowling around looking for anything to do and being so mad about how boring everything is that you just have to yell.”

Lyrically, All Over You spans desire, disconnection, and the realities of making art under capitalism. “We want to make people dance and think and feel at the same time,” says Schwartz.

Sony Music Vision announced that QUEEN BUDAPEST, the final filmed Queen live performance with Freddie Mercury, will be presented in cinemas and IMAX worldwide beginning October 7 through Trafalgar Releasing.

Filmed on July 27, 1986, at Budapest’s Népstadion, during the band’s ‘The Magic Tour,’ the concert has been restored in 4K from the original filmed 35mm footage by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production facility in New Zealand, with newly remixed audio from the original multitrack recordings.

The show was professionally filmed on 35mm movie film by 17 cameras. The Hungarian government approved the entire operation, which was a first for a Communist State.
An edited version of the show was broadcast in December 1986 throughout the Communist Bloc, including China, Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Yugoslavia and Mongolia, as well as to 59 Hungarian cinemas on New Year’s Day 1987, a first for a Western rock act.

For Queen’s Brian May & Roger Taylor, the show in Budapest wasn’t just another date on what was a huge tour for the band, it held much deeper meaning.

Brian May: “For years, fans behind the Iron Curtain had been able to listen to Queen music only on illegal cassettes. It was a forbidden thing to listen to rock bands like us, so to see them play in a live show would have been unthinkable. This concert, when they could finally come and see us live in person and interact with us, was a huge emotional moment for them and also for us. It felt like a very big deal – you could feel that incredible energy. There will never be an event quite like that again. Perhaps the most memorable highlight of all was performing that beautiful Hungarian folk song, which Freddie and I had learned for the occasion. Not a dry eye!”

Roger Taylor: “We did love to think that the music could transcend the politics, the political barriers, and that was sort of part of our ethos, to actually bring the audience into the show and make them feel part of the show. I know Freddie tried to learn this folk song, but he had the words written phonetically on the back of his hand. When the audience just started singing, we realized, wow, music really can be a great cause.”

Brian May, “Peter Jackson’s team have done a magnificent job of restoring the original film footage, at the highest resolution ever; it's pristine and the quality is breathtaking. I think you’re going to love it. For the sound, we’ve been able to do some top-quality restoration work as well. Now, in IMAX and movie theatres, it’s going to be definitively the most real experience ever of us, Queen, in our glory days. I think people will get lost in it and even forget they're watching a film.”

The 4K restoration of QUEEN BUDAPEST will have its world premiere at the Budapest Classics Film Marathon on September 15, hosted by the National Film Institute of Hungary, as part of the festival’s program celebrating restored and rediscovered cinema. A UK premiere will take place in London on September 30, with further details to follow. The 4K digitization of the original negatives was carried out by the National Film Institute (NFI), Hungary's FilmLab in Budapest. The original elements of the film were preserved by NFI Film Archive in Budapest since 1986.

QUEEN BUDAPEST will be released globally in cinemas and IMAX from October 7 for a limited time only, in partnership with Trafalgar Releasing. Tickets will be on sale later this summer. Fans are encouraged to sign up at the official website at QueenBudapest.com for further information and to be alerted when pre-sale tickets are available.

QUEEN BUDAPEST will be accompanied by a multi-format package via Hollywood Records in North America and Legacy Recordings, the catalogue division of Sony Music, internationally on October 30. The soundtrack, newly remixed from the original multitrack by Queen’s studio team, will be released alongside the Blu-Ray, DVD, CD & Digital editions as a 3LP vinyl set for the very first time.

QUEEN BUDAPEST is directed by János Zsombolyai.
