Zombies frontman Colin Blunstone documents special solo album concert with new home video box set

On Nov. 25, 2024, Zombies vocalist Colin Blunstone returned to London’s Union Chapel for a rare concert. Performing his 1971 debut solo album One Year in its entirety alongside career favorites, Blunstone was joined by a full ensemble, featuring bandmates from the current Zombies lineup and former Strawbs, plus the Q Strings quartet.

Blunstone says, "Looking back this was not an undertaking to be taken on lightly knowing that “One Year” encompasses so many different genres of music. With very little rehearsal time my solo band (Dave Bainbridge, Søren Koch, Chas Cronk and Steve Rodford) and the incredible Q Strings took on the challenge without a moment's hesitation.”

Gonzo Distribution has released an audio/visual document of that night as a limited collector's edition box set, available now. Find the box set and more here.

The contents include:

2CD + full concert DVD
Gold foil–embossed box with gold satin lining
Exclusive 24-page booklet with never-before-seen photographs of the concert
Each set includes an autographed and numbered certificate

Blunstone, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019 as the voice of The Zombies, whose major hits were “She’s Not There,” “Tell Her No,” and “Time of the Season.”

Released in 1971, One Year was listed in UK publication The Guardian’s “1,000 Albums to Hear Before You Die”...and has influenced artists from Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) to Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys), and even Jeff Buckley, whose A&R Rep cited Blunstone’s strings as an inspiration for Grace.

Christmas album reviews: Lady A, Brad Paisley

Artist: Lady A
Title: On This Winter’s Night - Vol. 2 (Big Machine Label Group)
You might like if you enjoy: Little Big Town, Sugarland, The Band Perry

Tell me more: Lady A’s Dave Heywood said the trio relished an opportunity to craft another Christmas album because they gained new holiday perspectives after becoming parents over the past decade. That wisdom helped the group write the stirring, family-centric ballad “Christmas Through Your Eyes” (among four tracks originally on a 2020 deluxe edition of Vol. 1) and the upbeat “Wouldn’t Be Christmas,” about longing to be with loved ones. Both are standouts on this terrific collection.

Elsewhere, “Winter Wonderland” is given a soulful, organ-drenched treatment; George Michael’s “Last Christmas” works as a contemplative ballad with warm vocals from Hillary Scott and Charles Kelley; The Beach Boys’ “Little Saint Nick” and Paul McCartney & Wings’ “Wonderful Christmastime” are totally fun and perfect fit for Lady A’s harmonic blend. Kelly imbues the Ray Charles popularized “That Spirit of Christmas” (from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” soundtrack) with some relaxed grit. Ricky Scaggs and Chris Tomlin contribute guest vocals to “Why We Sing Silent Noel” and “Silent Night” respectively.

Artist: Brad Paisley
Title: Snow Globe Town (Mercury Nashville)
You might like if you enjoy: Blake Shelton, Gary Allan, Keith Urban

Tell me more: After Brad Paisley was commissioned to write a few tunes for the new Hallmark Channel movie “A Grand Ole Opry Christmas” (premiering Nov. 29; Paisley also makes a cameo appearance), the West Virgina native enjoyed the assignment so much he penned more holiday tunes with the goal of making an album that felt like “a town that is magical this time of year.” Everything was recorded in less than a week using Paisley’s touring band and top Nashville session players. His 18-year-old son Huck designed the album cover art. Clocking in at just under an hour, Snow Globe Town includes 16 tracks frequently infused with Paisley’s dexterous electric guitar work and trademark humor (a twangy “Lit” and rollicking “That Crazy Elf” describe embarrassing, awkward family situations arising around this season and how to cope with them. Hint: alcohol is usually involved). Among the standards, “My Favorite Things” is done as a blues number in 6/8 time; “Marshmallow World” could soundtrack a honky tonk two-step; “Jingle Bell Rock” is rocking as only Paisley can. Standouts include the optimistic “Counting Down the Days,” an inspiring “Leave the Christmas Lights on For Me” (where a father races to make it home from work on time), and the poignant ballad “Last Year” (about a lost loved one) featuring singer/radio host Kelleigh Bannen. Overall, this is a fine addition to any country music fan’s Christmas playlist.

Yes album 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' to get deluxe box set treatment in February

Often cited as a prog rock classic among genre experts, the band Yes’ sixth album from 1973, 'Tales from Topographic Oceans' will be reissued on February 6 via Rhino Records as a Super Deluxe Edition boxed set.

The collection spans 12 CDs, 2 LPs, and Blu-ray and features a newly remastered version of the original double album on both CD and vinyl; rarities; previously unreleased studio and live recordings; and several new mixes by Steven Wilson, including a Dolby Atmos version.

It is available to pre-order HERE. Rhino.com will have an exclusive bundle of Tales From Topographic Oceans (Super Deluxe Edition) with a 12x12 Tales litho numbered and signed by Roger Dean, limited to 500. To preview the set, the single edit for “The Revealing Science Of God (Dance Of The Dawn)” is out digitally. Listen HERE.

The origins behind Tales from Topographic Oceans trace back to a footnote in Paramahansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi, which inspired Jon Anderson to imagine a four-part musical journey through ancient Hindu scriptures. That concept took shape across four side-long compositions: “The Revealing Science Of God (Dance of the Dawn),” “The Remembering (High the Memory),” “The Ancient (Giants Under the Sun),” and “Ritual (Nous Sommes Du Soleil).”

To capture the album’s structural and spiritual ambition, Anderson (vocals), Steve Howe (guitar), Chris Squire (bass), Rick Wakeman (keyboards), and Alan White (drums) worked with longtime producer Eddy Offord at London’s Morgan Studios, using Britain’s first 24-track console. Released December 7, 1973, Tales from Topographic Oceans topped the U.K. album chart and reached #6 in the U.S., where it earned a Gold certification.

The set’s live material was recorded early in the tour for Tales and includes previously unreleased performances of all four album tracks, along with earlier favorites “And You And I” and “Close To The Edge.” The shows include Zürich (April 21, 1974), Manchester (November 28, 1973), and Cardiff (December 1, 1973).

When the album came out, it took time for some fans and critics to catch up with the band, as writer Syd Schwartz of Jazz & Coffee recalls in the set’s liner notes. “Consensus was never the point,” he says. “Tales from Topographic Oceans will continue to be debated, dismissed, defended, and rediscovered. Its resistance to easy categorization is not a failure—it’s the reason it endures. It’s a vast, unknowable ocean of sound and spirit. And it still hasn’t finished revealing itself.”

Schwartz also notes the album would be a turning point for the future Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inductees and GRAMMY® winners: “Without Tales, there’s no Relayer. No pivot to leaner, sharper structures in the later ’70s. No map gets drawn without first pushing the edges of the known world — and Tales is where Yes did exactly that.”

The new music lands as the band continues their largely sold-out global run in Australia before continuing on to the UK and EU in January and February 2026.

Formed on Netflix’s Top 10 Global series Building the Band, Midnight Til Morning have quickly become one of the most-watched new acts of the year, earning more than 30M video views, entering five Spotify Viral 50 charts with debut single “Bye,” and building a combined social audience of 4.1M+.

Out now: Jimmy Eat World EP 'Something(s) Loud'

As a band whose members grew up listening to their favorite music on physical media, JIMMY EAT WORLD only really consider their music “released” once it’s available in such forms.

With that sentiment in mind, the Arizona quartet has put out the Something(s) Loud EP via the band's own Exotic Location Recordings.

Standard vinyl is available exclusively through the band's webstore, marking the vinyl debuts of formerly digital-only singles “Something Loud," “Place Your Debts,” and a cover of Crooked Fingers’ "Call to Love" (featuring Bethany Cosentino), along with an acoustic version of “Something Loud” and a TW Walsh remix of “Place Your Debts."

Rounding out the EP is a never-before-released track, “Failure,” (originally recorded in 2019 for the Surviving sessions — co-produced by Jimmy Eat World and Justin Meldal Johnsen and engineered/mixed by the band Failure’s co-founder and vocalist, Ken Andrews.

Reflecting on the songs that ultimately made it onto the EP, Jim Adkins explains, “By 2021, it felt like distancing restrictions were finally easing and we could get back on the road. Our Surviving album had barely been released before we were performing live again and reconnecting with fans. Coming out of the pandemic, it didn’t feel right to tour without offering something more, so we took the chance to share a few more tracks we’d been working on. At the time, it seemed like listeners were gravitating toward playlists rather than full albums, so we decided to meet them where they were.”

About “Failure”:

Ken Andrews breaks down the mixing process of “Failure.” (VIDEO) Following the success of the 2021 global livestream series, Phoenix Sessions, Jimmy Eat World reconnected with co-director Keith Koenig at Distiller Works for the official "Failure" music video. The lyrical arc of the song lent itself to the homemade 90s style skateboarding videos, reminiscent of the band’s formative years in Arizona. (WATCH HERE)

About "Something Loud":

Produced by the band and Justin Meldel-Johnson, “Something Loud” has all the qualities that we come to expect of a Jimmy Eat World song: punchy, powerful guitar driven intro, instrumental dynamics, topped off by the earnest lyrics, with Jim Adkins exclaiming, “Do you still feel part of something loud?”

About "Place Your Debts":

What began in a writing session with Clark Baechle (The Faint) and Denver Dalley (Desaparecidos), “Place Your Debts” transformed into a true Jimmy Eat World classic, opening with an eerie keyboard swell that’s slowly joined by an atmospheric instrumental backdrop for Adkins’ understated vocals and contemplative lyrics. Co-produced by the band and Justin Meldal-Johnsen.

About "Call to Love":

“Call to Love” is a song written by Eric Bachman for his project, Crooked Fingers. Recorded Live in 2020 & featuring singer Bethany Cosentino from the indie-rock duo Best Coast.

The Something(s) Loud art was created by Nick Steinhardt of 23in, the architect behind 2019’s Surviving album packaging.

Out now: Jake Owen album 'Dreams to Dream,' featuring Jamey Johnson, Waylon Jennings cover

'Dreams to Dream,' the new Jake Owen album, was co-produced with Shooter Jennings in Los Angeles at Sunset Sound. It is Owen’s first independently released album.

Says Owen, “I've just become a guy that wants to sing songs for people that have also matured with me in my life. Sometimes you need to get outside what's comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk. I'm always going to chase the passions that keep me moving forward."

Dreams to Dream reflects real-life experiences like heartbreak, struggle, and defiance. “It really feels cathartic to be honest about a lot of stuff in my life — how I feel, where I see myself going, and how I see myself going there,” Owen says.

“Wouldn’t Be Gone” is a song where Owen ponders what life might be like if he traveled a different path, a different career. He says, “It would keep me goin’, but I wouldn't be gone.” Where he would live a more “simple life back home…be with my children while they’re small.”

The album was heralded by earlier releases including “Middle Age Crazy,” “Long Time Lovin’ You,” the title track, “Dreams to Dream,” as well as a cover of the Waylon Jennings tune, “Them Old Love Songs" feat. Savannah Conley, reimagined in the studio with Shooter.

The new album also features Jamey Johnson on “The Jukebox Knows,” and Savannah Conley on “Them Old Love Songs.”

Owen wasn’t expecting much when he commented on one of Shooter Jennings’ Instagram posts, half-jokingly suggesting that they make a honky-tonk record, but the producer called his bluff. Two days later, Owen’s manager had Jennings on the line and, soon, Owen was on his way to L.A. and Jennings’ Sunset Sound.

“All my friends who have heard my stuff have gone, ‘Dude, Jake, this is you man. This is who you've always tried to be,’” Owen says. “Sometimes you need to get outside what's comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk.”

Owen hosts his annual Flamingo Weekend to benefit the Jake Owen Foundation, today-November 14.

The recording artist, headlining entertainer, and actor has released nine albums, headlined tours globally, and appeared in the movie Our Friend (2019). The music business executive, philanthropist and father of two is a partner in Good Company Entertainment (a Nashville-based management and label service company) and the founder of The Jake Owen Foundation (2010).

Track listing:

Out now: Orville Peck's 'Appaloosa' EP

Country artist Orville Peck has released his 'Appaloosa' EP via Warner Records; listen HEREIt includes a new duet with Noah Cyrus. See the music video for lead single “Drift Away.” Watch HERE.

“Appaloosa — the spotted horse — is a collection of songs created to honour the power of singularity. A celebration of uniqueness and performance. An archive of love and fear,” says Orville. The set was produced by Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait.

Today, Peck kicks off his 7th Annual Rodeo, running all weekend in Pioneertown, CA, at Pappy & Harriet’s, and featuring performances from Joy Oladokun, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Allison Russell, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and more. Beyond curating the entire experience, Peck will play a different set each day: cover songs tonight; headlining on Saturday with special guests; and winding down with an acoustic performance on Sunday. “Maybe This Time” was made famous by Liza Minnelli in the 1972 film adaptation of Cabaret. Peck made his Broadway debut in a five-month, 128-show run of Cabaret this summer, drawing rave reviews along the way.

Peck also recently wrapped filming the star-studded 2026 Street Fighter movie, in which he plays the masked assassin Vega. Appaloosa is not just Peck’s return to music, but also to solo songcraft. In recent months, he’s teamed up with Cyrus for her single “Love Is a Canyon,” and Kesha for “Tennessee” also featuring Hudson Mohawke and Tayla Parx. Notably, the latter was recorded for the just-released All Things Go: 10 Years album, with all proceeds benefitting Jack and Rachel Antonoff’s The Ally Coalition.

Last year, Peck dropped his eclectic and acclaimed duets album Stampede, featuring collaborations with Kylie Minogue and Diplo on “Midnight Ride,” Beck on “Death Valley High,” and Willie Nelson for a cover of “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond of Each Other.” The project's guest list also included Cyrus, Rateliff, Russell, Elton John, Teddy Swims, Midland, Margo Price, Molly Tuttle, and more.

Squeeze album news

Squeeze songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook reveal 'Trixies,' their first album in eight years, due on March 6 via BMG. It is also the first album they ever wrote.

Written by the teenage Difford (19) and Tilbrook (16) at the very start of their songwriting partnership, when concept albums and rock operas were de rigueur and with the snappy underworld vernacular of New York fabulist Damon Runyon filling Difford’s thoughts, the songs are a collection of stories set in a fictional night club, Trixies.

The only problem with these songs was that, back in 1974, the musical vision of the young creators exceeded their virtuosity. “We fully committed ourselves to songwriting but this was three or four years before we even got to make our first record. Long story short, these were songs that we just didn’t have enough musical experience to record properly” explains Difford.

Fifty years on, and having rediscovered the original cassette, that problem no longer exists for the band who have played more than 600 shows since reuniting in 2007. So, what better way to mark 50 years of Squeeze than to complete the circle and realize the vision they had for Trixies? “The songs that we wrote then astound me. I’m proud of them now, and I’m particularly proud that it was young us that did that. These are very much the same songs that we wrote then,” says Tilbrook, “The only difference is that now I can teach the songs to the rest of the band. Back then, I didn’t even know what the names of the chords were!”

Now this precocious opening volley of songs – under the guiding production hand of Squeeze’s bassist Owen Biddle (The Roots, John Legend, Al Green) – finally gets to enjoy its moment in the spotlight.

And by returning Difford and Tilbrook to the birth of their creative partnership, Trixies has acted as the catalyst to a latter-day songwriting surge. On the heels of Trixies, an album of brand new Squeeze songs – recorded concurrently with Trixies – is finished and set to follow in the future. “The act of revisiting the Trixies songs had me in tears,” smiles Tilbrook, “partly because they’re so good, but also because I’m aware of all the stuff that I’ve still yet to hear and write.” The sentiments are echoed by Difford: “It really fills me with joy that at my age we can discover that we wrote such great songs when we were teenagers. I’m very proud of that.”

The first taste of the record comes in the form of “Trixies Part One,” a sub-3 minute introduction to Trixies, the rhythm of the club and the colorful assortment of characters within.

Squeeze are on tour with Madness in December. See www.squeezeofficial.com for more information.

Album Review: Expanded Edition of OMD’s 1985 Album ‘Crush’

Last month, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark - the British synth pop band best known here for the top 5 single “If You Leave,” from the “Pretty in Pink” film soundtrack - marked the 40th anniversary of their U.S. breakout album Crush with an excellent expanded reissue on various formats.

Today, the Los Angeles City Council officially recognized Nov. 7 as “OMD Day in Los Angeles,” presented by LA City Councilwoman (7th District) Monica Rodriguez. The group, led by singer/bassist Andy McCluckey and keyboardist/vocalist Paul Humpreys, also performs at House of Blues in Anaheim on Sunday and Monday.

OMD’s solid sixth album Crush, produced by Stephen Hague (New Order), often featured a more streamlined sound than prior efforts. The U.S. hit single "So in Love” and fan favorite “Secret” are still mainstays amid OMD live setlists, as evidenced earlier this year by stellar sets this writer witnessed at Pasadena’s Cruel World Festival and the Greek Theatre.

Available in stores on 2LP, 2CD and digital formats, the remastered edition of Crush sounds better than ever. There are seven unreleased tracks from the album’s multitrack sessions (mixed by Humphreys) as well as two demos, an alternative mix, four never-before-heard songs, non-album single B-sides and extended or 12” mixes (some never previously reissued or issued on CD or digitally). The great packaging has rare photos and informative liner notes by journalist/author Jason Draper, who got recent quotes from McCluskey.

Besides the aforementioned singles, Disc 1 highlights include the darkly hypnotic “Women III,” “88 Seconds in Greensboro” (another in a long line of topical lyrics ripped from the news), a haunting “Native Daughters of the Golden West” (inspired by a LA museum trip), and the lovely understated “Hold You.” Among the Disc 2 gems are “Wheels of Steel” and fun, Caribbean-tinged “Lana Turner” (both strong enough that they would’ve made the original album better), plus the glorious “So in Love – Special American Dance Remix” and “Secret – Extended Mix.”

This is a must-purchase for serious OMD fans.

Happy Mondays retrospective on the way this month

London Records are set to mark 40 years of the Happy Mondays with a series of special releases, beginning with the new compilation The Factory Singles, available November 28 on double CD, double LP & cassette, pre-order HERE.

In March 2026, Happy Mondays will embark on a huge UK tour to celebrate 35 years of Pills ’N’ Thrills and Bellyaches, supported by original 1991 tour mates The Farm and Northside. Tickets on sale now HERE.

The Factory Singles compiles all Happy Mondays singles on the legendary Manchester label Factory Records, including “Step On,” “Kinky Afro,” “Hallelujah” and “24-Hour Party People.” This definitive collection captures the band’s ground-breaking output from 1985 –1992, celebrating their pivotal role in shaping UK music culture. The Factory Singles will be available across multiple formats — including 2LP, 2CD, and a 1LP Blood Records Exclusive. The artwork has been conceived by the band's iconic original designers from Central Station – and features distinctive variations across each format. Vivid, enduring ink stains serve as a striking visual metaphor for the lasting imprint the band left on Manchester and the British music scene.

Complementing the physical editions, a brand-new digital remix drop series will be unveiled from renowned producers Daniel Avery, Paul Oakenfold, Anna Prior, Mella Dee, and Shadow Child - bridging the Mondays’ legacy with today’s electronic innovators. Original Mondays collaborator Paul Oakenfold has revisited “Step On” after 35 years with a stunning new remix available October 29, pre-save HERE.

Of the remix, Oakenfold reveals: "When I listen back to Step On now, it still sounds dangerous. It still sounds alive. And it still gets dancefloors moving. That’s the test of real music—not how it charts, but how it feels decades later. To be able to come back to it 35 years on and give it a fresh spin is special. It’s not just nostalgia - it’s about showing that the spirit of the track still connects, still has that edge, and can still light up a dancefloor today."

Oakenfold, who produced Pills ’N’ Thrills and Bellyaches as well as providing many of the Mondays most successful remixes, also contributes liner notes, in which he writes: “When I think back to working with the Happy Mondays, I don’t think about chaos first. I don’t think about the drugs or the headlines. I think about the music. Because above all else - above the madness and the mayhem - was a sound that was utterly new. A sound that broke the rules. A sound that made your feet move before your brain caught up. A sound we helped shape, together.”

Since emerging from the deviant streets of early 80s post-punk Salford, Happy Mondays have been the UK’s craftiest doyens of accidental, spasmodic genius. The nation’s premier rock ‘n’ roll pirates, who swerved the boredom, dodged reality and made something out of nothing. Something different from everything that had gone before. Both cackling lunatic delinquents and savvy musical scholars, they comprised Shaun Ryder and his dastardly wit, his brother Paul’s undulating basslines, drummer Gaz Whelan’s enigmatic beats, guitarist Mark Day’s intoxicating guitar lines and Paul Davis’ transcendental keyboards. And Bez, of course, with his onstage maracas and pterodactyl-winged freaky dancin’, who was (and remains) their one-off talismanic soul.

Signed by the late, great Anthony ‘Tony’ Wilson to the still-influential Factory Records in 1985, Happy Mondaysreleased four albums on the label - Squirrel And G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) (1987), Bummed (1988), Pills 'N' Thrills And Bellyaches (1990) and ...Yes Please! (1992).

The collapse of Factory in November 1992 - in part caused by the £400,000 bill for recording …Yes Please! in Barbados - marked the beginning of the end of the first incarnation Happy Mondays, who split in 1993, with Shaun going on to form the hugely successful Black Grape with Kermit of Ruthless Rap Assassins.

Happy Mondays have successfully reformed several times, and last year undertook their first headline tour since the passing of founder member Paul Ryder in 2022. In 2026, Happy Mondays will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Pills 'N' Thrills And Bellyaches with an extensive UK Tour.

Richard Marx sings jazz 'After Hours' with January album

The new album by Richard Marx, After Hours, arrives Jan. 16. It is the follow up to 2022’s Songwriter. New single “Big Band Boogie” (feat. Kenny G), introduces the collection's jazz palette. Other featured guests on the album include Rod Stewart, Chris Botti, Tom Scott, and more.

On October 21, Marx performed “Big Band Boogie” with Hugh Jackman, opening Marx’s five-night NYC Café Carlyle residency.

A nod to the Great American Songbook, After Hours blends beloved standards with brand new originals written in the same spirit. The album was recorded entirely live with a 24-piece ensemble, capturing full takes. See tracklisting below.

Marx says, "I never seriously considered doing a standards or covers album before because at heart, I am a songwriter, first and foremost. The challenge of writing songs as if I were pitching them to Frank Sinatra in 1948 really appealed to me. Creating these songs was more fun than I could've imagined, and singing them all live in the studio with the whole band, just like Frank and Dean used to do, was the thrill of a lifetime."

Recent singles from After Hours include "All I Ever Needed" featuring trumpeter Chris Botti and “Magic Hour.” Earlier this year, Marx released “Forget About The World.”

This year, Marx continues with his podcast and YouTube series, Stories To Tell. Each episode, a guest joins Marx for cocktail-infused conversation at his home bar - including Kenny G, KISS’ Paul Stanley, Katie Couric, Rick Springfield, Eric Benet and more. The show was inspired by a Zoom YouTube series Marx started during the pandemic to connect with friends and collaborators from David Copperfield to Olivia Newton-John. Marx also joined joined The Voice Australia as a coach alongside Melanie C (aka Sporty Spice), Ronan Keating, and Kate Miller-Heidke.
