Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival '18: Images preserved for posterity

“The Bowl is one of the special things about Redlands that make our community unique,” said Bruce Herwig.

Three years ago, the photographer, whose work is displayed regularly around this Southern California town, captured a spectacular fireworks finale image.

In 2016, the RBPA used it for promotion, Herwig shot several shows during that summer festival and his images were used amid the Bowl social media accounts.

Bowl staffers were “pleased with my efforts and asked me to do it again,” he said. Yet multiple hours of shooting and editing per performance was too much work for Herwig to handle alone. So, with RBPA’s permission, he “asked some friends if they were interested” in contributing and “coordinated a team of 7 talented all-volunteer photographers from all walks of life.”

As a result, 2017 was the first time in Bowl history that every festival performance was visually documented.

“It was great to see so much creativity from this team as they each brought their own unique skills and perspective,” said Herwig. They will do it all again next month.

“We're looking forward to another great summer of wonderful concerts and beautiful images.”
