X band tour, single news

X have announced a special vinyl reissue of their first single, "Adult Books b/w We're Desperate,” in the original 7-inch format, on April 18.

Pressed in limited edition color vinyl, Oakland-based, Superior Viaduct will release the punk veteran's single along with four other classic punk singles from The Germs, The Dils, Flipper, and The Residents.

Formed in 1977, X quickly established themselves as one of the leading bands in LA's flourishing first wave punk scene. Featuring vocalist Exene Cervenka, vocalist/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom, and drummer DJ Bonebrake, their debut 45 was released on the seminal Dangerhouse label in 1978. These songs were later re-recorded for their second album.

In other band news - X has a new live format that most fans have yet to experience. After an experiment on the west coast on their way to the Pickathon Festival last summer, the band decided they enjoyed this new way of performing their classic hits and will continue with this format.

What does this mean? It means that DJ gets to play the vibes, Billy breaks out his saxophone and the lyrics are upfront - loud and clear! The band enjoys the flexibility of the new format, in part because it allows them to reimagine some of their legendary songs while also giving them the chance to perform some they never could before.

As John Doe says, “There’s a sneaky, funky and smoky quality to the new versions of songs like ‘Beyond & Back,’ ‘The Unheard Music’ and ‘Hungry Wolf.’ It allows us to play songs we never had in the live set, like ‘Come Back to Me,’ ‘Drunk in my Past,’ ‘Dancing With Tears in My Eyes’ or ‘I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts.’”

X will bring their 4-album Show Play to both San Diego and Orange counties in Southern California this summer. Beginning with San Diego, the band will perform a pair of nights, giving fans a chance to hear the first two albums. Their debut album, Los Angeles, followed by Wild Gift (both on Rolling Stone’s Top 500 Greatest Albums of All Time), on May 22 with the second two, Under the Big Black Sun and More Fun in the New World, played in their entirety on May 23.

Prior to these 4-album play shows, X will hit the road next month on their “Go West” tour, with other live shows for 2015 to be announced soon.
