Tears
For Fears have begun writing and
recording new original songs for their next studio album, their first
in 10 years, to be released in 2014.
After recently surprising fans
with their new recordings of Arcade Fire’s “Ready to Start” and Hot
Chip’s “And I Was A Boy From School,” Tears For
Fears have just debuted a new cover of Animal Collective’s “My Girls,”
complete with a new animated video created by Vinyl Williams.

is available now for streaming on Tears For Fears’ website, tearsforfears.com.
Tears
For Fears’ Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal have approached the recordings
as a way to show "some reciprocal cross-generational love" for the
artists and bands who have been inspired by, and recorded covers of,
Tears For Fears songs.
Lorde’s new cover of Tears For Fears’ “Everybody
Wants To Rule The World” for ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ made
headlines when it was announced last month, and Matthew
Dear (featuring Tegan and Sara) has just released a new recording of
one of Tears For Fears’ first singles, “Pale Shelter.”
"The
idea was before we actually had any material, before we got together,
that we might try and do a couple of cover versions to sort of
kick-start
the recording process again," Orzabal told a music publication in a recent interview.
Along
with the recent recordings, the band has embarked on a broad catalog
retrospective campaign. The first release is the new 30th anniversary
edition of their acclaimed debut album, 1983’s The Hurting. The influential synth-pop record was digitally remastered and expanded
with live sessions, B-sides and remixes for worldwide release last month
in various packages.
