Upcoming Christmas albums

Apparently, it's never too early to think about new Christmas albums. Here are the first two that I've seen on the horizon...

Nick Lowe’s new album Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection for All the Family, is set for Oct. 29 release via Yep Roc.

Named after a popular British Christmastime confectionery, Quality Street features twelve new recordings, including three Nick Lowe originals (one co-written with Ry Cooder), a song by Ron Sexsmith written expressly for the album, covers of holiday favorites by Roger Miller and Wizzard, rarities and traditional chestnuts.

Produced by Lowe, Neil Brockbank and Robert Treherne, Quality Street was recorded in London with Nick’s crack backing band - Geraint Watkins (keyboards), Johnny Scott (guitar), Matt Radford (bass) and Treherne (drums) – who adhered to a simple rule for the sessions: “We tried to make it a sleighbell-free zone,” says Lowe.

The results range from the rockabilly-charged “Children Go Where I Send Thee” to the playful Lowe original “Christmas at the Airport”; from a New Orleans-influenced “Silent Night,” to Lowe’s inventive, Johnny Cash-style retelling of the nativity “I Was Born In Bethlehem.”

Lowe plans on returning to the U.S. during the holiday season for a run of shows. Go here for dates: http://nicklowe.com/tour-dates/

A decade since the success of her first holiday album (which went platinum), Jewel's follow up Let It Snow is due Oct. 29.

The American singer-songwriter-poet did 10 holiday favorites and two original songs, “Blue Crystal Glow” and “It’s Christmastime.”

Featuring country and pop with a classical twist, there's also a guest spot by Vince Gill on guitar for “White Christmas.”

“I really had an amazing time doing this album. I pushed myself vocally and channeled Jazz style vocals while also incorporating country and romantic classical music,” said Jewel, “I’m very proud of this album; vocally I feel that it’s one of my best records yet, and it just happens to be a Christmas record!”

Fans can purchase a two-track advance on iTunes starting Oct. 29 with a “complete your offer” opportunity on Nov. 19 where they will have the option of purchasing the 12 track and 16 track version.

In addition, on Sept. 17, Jewel will release her second children’s book with Simon & Schuster titled “Sweet Dreams.” She has also signed on as a judge on the NBC series, “The Sing Off” which will premiere this holiday season.
