Rare solo tour from Decemberists' Colin Meloy

Colin Meloy will launch his first solo tour since 2008 in New York City this November.

The frontman/songwriter for The Decemberists is recording an EP of cover songs to be sold on the tour.

He has previously paid homage to Morrissey, Shirley Collins and Sam Cooke in the three earlier installments of the Colin Meloy Sings... series.

The last solo outing coincided with the release of his first live collection, Colin Meloy Sings Live! The fall tour marks a return to music for Meloy, who has recently been devoting time to The Wildwood Chronicles, a series of novels for children that he created with his wife, illustrator Carson Ellis.

Book series debut, Wildwood, arrived in 2011, Under Wildwood followed in 2012, and like the first, became a New York Times bestseller. Wildwood Imperium, the third volume, will be published in 2014.

The King Is Dead, the most recent studio album from The Decemberists, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2011 and contained "Down By The Water," which received two Grammy nominations.
