Capital Cities album and tour news

Capitol Records, in partnership with Lazy Hooks will release In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery, the debut album from Capital Cities, on June 11.

The Los Angeles based outfit – founded and fronted by Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, two jingle writers who met on Craigslist – will be previewing songs from the album during its first-ever North American outing.

The “Dancing With Strangers” tour, which will feature special guest Gold Fields started last month. All proceeds from the June 7 show at the El Rey in LA will go to MusiCares and A Place Called Home. See below for full itinerary.

In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery takes its name from the lyrics of Capital Cities’ Top 10 Modern Rock radio hit “Safe and Sound,” which is the album’s first single and has already been heard in promotional campaigns for HBO, Smart Car, Microsoft and more than half a dozen other spots.

The album was produced and mixed entirely by Ryan and Sebu, with artwork by Brazilian artist Joao Lauro Fonte, who has done works for Wired, Converse and others. OutKast’s Andre 3000 and vocalist Shemika Secrest are featured on the song “Farrah Fawcett Hair.” The track also includes a narration by Frank Tavares, who is best known as the voice of NPR’s News underwriters, announcing the funding credits that are heard at the end of news programs.
