Rhett Miller's tour hits So. California today

I rarely miss a Miller/Old 97's live appearance in SoCal, but I'll have to this time around. I'd highly recommend fans pick up appropriately-titled "The Dreamer" and check out one of the area shows...

Rhett Miller's fine new album, "The Dreamer," came out earlier this month. It features guest vocalists Rosanne Cash on "As Close As I Came to Being Right" as well as Rachael Yamagata (who previously lent her pipes to "Fireflies," off 2006's "The Believer").

"The Dreamer" is Miller's sixth solo effort and the first time he has handled production duties. While Old 97's songs tend to delve into Americana and country, Miller's own tunes  have usually been more rock and pop-oriented. "The Dreamer" finds the Texas-bred, New York-based singer/songwriter combining those two musical worlds. Ben Kweller co-wrote opening track "Lost Without You," while Jude Cole (Lifehouse) had a hand in "I'll Try To."

The band in the studio was Miller's regular touring group, the Serial Lady Killers.
