Thomas Rhett news

With 12 No. 1s, awards country radio’s most played artist of 2018,THOMAS RHETT has unveiled details of his upcoming fourth studio album, CENTER POINT ROAD (Valory Music Co.) ahead of its May 31 release.

Named after the street in his Tennessee hometown that shaped and influenced much of his life experiences, the project is a return to his roots, marking the most autobiographical collection of Thomas Rhett's career.

Fans can now pre-order limited edition album packages at ThomasRhett.com and those who pre-ordere the album digitally will receive a brand new track in addition to previously available tracks “Look What God Gave Her” and “Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time” featuring Little Big Town.

"For me, Center Point Road really symbolizes what it was like to grow up in Hendersonville,” explained Thomas Rhett. "First dates, first football games, first heartbreak, first kisses, success and failures. I really feel like that road shaped who I am today, and it felt fitting because the record, for the most part, is pretty nostalgic. Songs like 'Almost,' 'That Old Truck' and especially 'Center Point Road,' really describe who I was as a kid and teenager, and who I’ve become as an adult."

CENTER POINT ROAD finds the star co-writing all 16 tracks on the album for the first time. Lead single “Look What God Gave Her” was first introduced on Saturday Night Live.

"On this one, I just got back to why I wanted to make music in the first place – and that was writing great songs. This is one of those records that every time I listen back to it, it still feels new,” Rhett said.

Rhett stepped into a production role, along with long-time companions Dann Huff, Jesse Frasure and Julian Bunetta.

“Look What God Gave Her” had the highest chart debut of Rhett’s career. CENTER POINT ROAD is the follow-up to the PLATINUM-certified LIFE CHANGES, which spawned a 2018 GRAMMY Awards nomination for Best Country Album and has been streamed more than one billion times, delivering a RIAA-certified PLATINUM and GOLD chart-toppers, bringing Thomas Rhett’s No. 1 tally to 12.

Following a CMA Triple Play award for penning three No. 1 songs within a 12-month period (“Die A Happy Man,” “Star of the Show” and Michael Ray’s “Think A Little Less”), he added to awards from the Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, Billboard Music Awards, CMT Music Awards and more.

On May 17 in Spokane, WA, he will kick off his headlining VERY HOT SUMMER TOUR, visiting 40 stops across the nation. For more information on new music and upcoming tour dates, visit ThomasRhett.com.

Out now: Eli Young Band 'Greatest Hits'

This is Eli Young Band: Greatest Hits is available now via The Valory Music Co. The new track “Love Ain’t” is on the cusp of Top 10 at Country radio. The band chatted with fans online prior to the release of their Vevo official live performance of the “Where Were You” Video Premiere, filmed last month at the New York City headquarters. Watch Here: https://youtu.be/6POlvF4aN5Q.

"Those kids in that garage band we started out as wouldn’t have expected we would be where we are now, and what is still ahead of us. Fans from day one, and fans jumping in to discover us now – you are, as cliché as this sentiment can be, making all of it possible," shared EYB on Instagram. "This album brings the songs you love most to one place! Thankful for the past, and excited for the future. We hope you will turn it on, up, and sing along."

Revisiting their early days on the road when many of their signature tracks were created, EYB compiled a playlist titled “Songs From the Van” for Billboard and “features both superstar rockers (Queen) and introspective singer-songwriters (Marc Broussard), all of whom put an emphasis on harmonies and instrumentals the way Eli Young Band does.”

Collectively sharing the theme, EYB recalls, “Although these are all songs and artists that have influenced our music, these more specifically capture a moment in time for us when it was just the four of us – in a van – taking on the world one small stage at a time.” Listen to EYB’s picks here.

Formed at the University of North Texas, EYB’s journey features #1 hits PLATINUM "Drunk Last Night,” 2X PLATINUM “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” and 3X PLATINUM “Crazy Girl.” Globally, they have racked up over 2.8 billion in streams. EYB has headlining and festival shows slated through the summer. For a full list of tour dates and more, please visit https://eliyoungband.com/ and follow them on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

Coachella 2019 news: Chvrches

The only time I've seen the band live was its first Coachella appearance for the last album. It was one of my highlights of the whole festival. Here's news on the tour...

CHVRCHES has a new US headline tour kicking off with their return to the Coachella stage on April 14.
The tour takes in the band’s biggest headline US show to date at Berkeley, California’s Greek Theatre with support from Unknown Mortal Orchestra. Cherry Glazerr will support on the other dates excluding Las Vegas. The full list of dates are below and tickets are on sale now.

CHVRCHES are Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Their acclaimed third album Love Is Dead entered the Billboard Top Rock and Alternative charts at #1, and #11 overall. The album followed their 2013 debut The Bones of What You Believe and the 2015 follow up Every Open Eye.

Love Is Dead features the singles “Miracle” and “Get Out,” as well as the previously released “My Enemy” (feat. The National’s Matt Berninger) and “Never Say Die.”

The album is about “coming to terms with the fact that there are great things in the world and there are awful things in the world and that you can’t get one without the other,” says Mayberry.

For the first time in their career, Love Is Dead sees CHVRCHES welcome outside influences, with 2017 and 2018 GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) co-producing nine tracks, whilst BRIT Award Producer of the Year 2018 Steve Mac also produces a song.

Over the course of their career, CHVRCHES have played countless shows worldwide, with each tour’s production reaching new heights and leaping towards the top of festival bills. The Love Is Dead tour alone will see the band headline such prestigious venues as LA’s Greek Theatre, the Sydney Opera House, London’s Alexandra Palace and a huge hometown show in Glasgow at the SSE Hydro.

CHVRCHES have partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every ticket will go to support Girls Rock Camps and their work empowering girls, trans and gender-diverse young people through music education and mentorship. www.plus1.org

Coachella 2019 news: Global Inheritance

Each time I cover Coachella, I enjoy checking out some of the interesting artistic designs on recycled trash cans. Read more below...

You might already know about POSTed Studio. Now, for the first time ever, a speaker series is coming to Coachella. Visitors to the Studio are free to design posters all weekend in both the camping hub and main festival grounds on any topic, but they will now also have the opportunity to align their POSTed concepts with the inspiration provided by special guest speakers from all around the world.

The POSTed Studio allows each participant to develop a concept around a social or environmental issue that matters to them. The most creative concepts are then turned into high-quality poster prints designed by professional artists and shared at no charge with the world via our online poster library to use at marches, rallies, school presentations or other non-commercial purposes. For more info, go to www.globalinheritance.org.

Full speaker lineup announced will be announced the first week of April. Be sure to follow the Global Inheritance socials.

The bins are almost finished and the polo fields are calling: That means the TRASHed artists have been working hard on a unique collection of redesigned recycling bins.

In Downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, April 6th from 7pm to 11pm, you can view the 16th edition of TRASHed at Coachella. This is the only time you can see the full collection before they roll to the festival. This one-night event is free and open to the public. Capacity is limited so RSVP. Enjoy drinks, music + a night of art with Global Inheritance and event partners - House of Machines & Absolut Vodka.

At the festival, grab a few friends and join in Carpoolchella. Festival-goers traveling in packs of four or more passengers in their car boasting a Carpoolchella insignia can potentially win prizes (including backstage passes and VIP passes for life).

From Carpoolchella and Public Displays of Affection to Tour Rider and Coachella Express, past Global Inheritance transportation programs have managed to remove hundreds of thousands of cars off the road while promoting the value of public transportation, biking and carpooling.

Mike+the Mechanics to release an acoustic album, on tour now in the UK

MIKE + THE MECHANICS will release their ninth studio album, OUT OF THE BLUE, on April 5 via BMG. It includes several of the band’s hits from throughout their 35-year career with brand new recordings (on deluxe version), as well as introducing fans to the band’s future with three brand new tracks: “One Way,” “What Would You Do” and the album’s lead single of the title track. Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar now handle the vocals.

Fans can pre-order the album and download the new song at any of these online retail outlets. OUT OF THE BLUE will be available on CD, vinyl and on all digital outlets, and a special deluxe CD version will be available featuring six newly recorded “as-live” acoustic versions of “Don’t Know What Came Over Me,” “The Best Is Yet To Come,” “The Living Years,” “Beggar On A Beach Of Gold,” “Another Cup Of Coffee,” and “Over My Shoulder.”

Upon announcing the release of the album, guitarist/founder Mike Rutherford explained, “Having toured with the Mechanics over the last 10 years, I have heard the old songs change a bit each year with Andrew and Tim singing and the same band playing. In some cases, they have been extended and developed, so it seemed a good idea to record these versions in the studio. Anyone who has seen us live will I’m sure like to hear the old ones in this form, as they show how the two singers work so well together. Especially on a song like ‘Get Up’ which has become a double lead vocal.”

He continues, “Recording the unplugged version was like in the old days - down the stairs into a basement studio, not fifty yards away from Trident Studios where we recorded Genesis’ second and third albums. We recorded these live, and Tim and Andrew led the songs with great vocal performances, and we mixed it as we recorded it like in the past. No wonder albums took a maximum of three weeks to complete then! We have also written and recorded three new songs which show the Mechanics next stage, I hope!”

MIKE + THE MECHANICS formed in 1985 by Mike Rutherford and originally featured Paul Young of Sad Café and Paul Carrack of Ace as frontmen. They immediately stood apart from their contemporaries with their unusual line up of two vocalists. Together, they achieved huge commercial success throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s with a series of albums including MIKE + THE MECHANICS, THE LIVING YEARS, WORD OF MOUTH, BEGGAR ON A BEACH OF GOLD and M6.

The band started as a side project by Rutherford, but had a run of hits including “Silent Running,” “Over My Shoulder,” “All I Need Is A Miracle,” and the U.S. and Australian #1 single, “The Living Years.” After Paul Young’s sudden death in 2000, the band released one further album before deciding to call it a day. Rutherford went on to perform a series of sell-out concerts with a reformed Genesis in 2007, before turning his attention once more to songwriting.

Despite never expecting to start work with the Mechanics again, songs soon started to take shape and Rutherford invited singers Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar to work on the material with him. Together, the new line-up of MIKE + THE MECHANICS released THE ROAD in 2011 and enjoyed huge success on a tour across the U.K. and Ireland.

Following a series of sell-out tours through the U.K. and Europe, in 2017 they released a brand new studio album, LET ME FLY, their first in six years, which broke into the U.K. top 10. With Gary Wallis on drums, Anthony Drennan on guitar and Luke Juby on keyboards alongside Mike Rutherford, Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar, the Mechanics played a U.S. tour in early 2018 before returning to the studio again to record new material.

MIKE + THE MECHANICS’ “The Looking Back Over My Shoulder Tour” play the U.K. and Europe in the coming weeks. They’ll also be meeting up with an old friend in June and going on the road with Phil Collins for the first six shows of his European tour.

Those tickets are available at www.philcollins.com:

The band is currently on a UK tour into April, then continue through Europe. See mikeandthemechanics.com for the full list. No U.S. tour dates are planned at this time.

UK band Editors deconstruct latest album

Editors announce the release of The Blanck Mass Sessions for Record Store Day 2019. It is an electronica-based alternate version of their acclaimed top 10 album Violence and will come out on limited edition color vinyl April 13. A general release on May 3 via Play It Again Sam follows.

The eight track album, made up of producer Blanck Mass’ original productions of Violence, also includes the new single "Barricades," with a video created by Bristol based Hi-Sim Studios. Watch it HERE.

In 2017, Editors invited producer Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass, to deconstruct the recordings that were to be the building blocks of Violence, and reassemble them as electronica. The band then enlisted producer Leo Abrahams to find the middle ground between the two recordings. While this fusion of the three creative influences went on to become Violence, Benjamin’s versions remained worthy of their own release.

Frontman Tom Smith explains: “When we initially approached Ben to work with us on Violence we gave him free reign to do whatever he wanted. It seemed stupid to try and instill any boundaries or direction to him as he has such a singular, authored sound to everything he puts his hand to... so we left him to it. The results of that process being this release. A very visceral version of our album Violence.”

Violence was another top 10 record that added to their back catalogue, which includes two #1 albums and 3 UK platinum certifications. A sold out UK tour culminating in an acclaimed show at O2 Academy Brixton followed by festival performances, including supporting The Cure at BST in Hyde Park and headlining the Werchter Classic, topping a bill that also contained Kraftwerk and The National.

1. Barricades
2. Cold
3. Hallelujah (So Low)

Out now: 'Eraserland' by Strand of Oaks

Last week, Strand Of Oaks was joined by Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires and others to perform the single, "Ruby" on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Watch HERE.

Next month, Strand of Oaks will head out on tour in support of Eraserland. See all dates below and for more information visit www.strandofoaks.net.

On Eraserland, Strand of Oaks' writer/producer Timothy Showalter is backed by Carl Broemel, Bo Koster, Patrick Hallahan and Tom Blankenship (all from My Morning Jacket), who played a crucial role in the making of the album. It also features Jason Isbell. Eraserland is available HERE and the die cut, double LP is available on limited cloudy white vinyl HERE.

After 2017’s Hard Love, Showalter went on a spiritual pilgrimage to the New Jersey Shore. During this time, Carl Broemel messaged Showalter and informed him that Bo Koster would be soon be on a two week break from his tour with Roger Waters and they would all be free to meet in Louisville and they helped make the next Strand of Oaks album.

“When I was writing these songs, every day I would walk on the beach and I was completely alone and overwhelmed by fear...but then I realized how there really aren’t any rules for who you are, who you’ll become, or who you think you need to be. Eraserland is just that. It’s death to ego, and rebirth to anything or anyone you want to be,” said Showalter.

"This project seemed to just fall together naturally,” said Broemel. “I felt drawn to Tim’s positive energy and his albums...I threw it out there that I’d be happy to help in any way I could with the record."

Isbell contributed guitar work to Eraserland, while every song was recorded live, with all musicians playing together in one room. “I remember listening to the final mixes with tears rolling down my cheeks,” said Hallahan. “From start to finish, this one came from the heart.”

About the song "Forever Chords," the SoO main man said when the writing was finished, "I felt like this is either the last song I ever need to write, or the rebirth of Strand of Oaks."

More AXS TV news: Dan Rather's The Big Interview new season

AXS TV celebrity sit-down series The Big Interview's seventh season premieres in a new time slot on Tuesday, April 16 at 8 pm EST. Hosted by veteran TV journalist Dan Rather, it will feature 10 new episodes.

The season kicks off with a rare sit-down with rock superstar—and former Journey singer— Steve Perry (pictured), who talks about his decision to leave the band at the peak of their success, a decision that was brought on by the overwhelming feeling that the passion for music had left him in this first look clip.

He explains, “I could not find the honest passion for singing… and then, I think, my voice was also suffering.” Perry continues, “Eventually, the feeling just got very clear to me that I need to just stop.” Also during the interview, Perry reflects on growing up as a child of divorce and the impact it had on him, examines the highs and lows of fame, and opens up about his personal life offstage.

The new season also includes conversations with beloved KISS frontman Paul Stanley; pop pioneer Cyndi Lauper; Foreigner members Mick Jones and Lou Gramm; Kevin Cronin, Neal Doughty, Bruce Hall, Dave Amatoand Bryan Hitt of REO Speedwagon; Billy Bob Thornton; Carl and Rob Reiner; country singer Travis Tritt; singer Boz Scaggs; Paul Shaffer, among others.

“I’m incredibly proud to see The Big Interview returning for season seven,” Rather said. “It has been my honor to sit down with these entertainment trailblazers every week, as they welcome me—and viewers across the world—into their personal lives. Hitting our 100TH episode last season was truly a landmark moment, but it was only the beginning. I look forward to what the future has in store as we continue to build upon that success.”

“The Big Interview has strongly resonated with our viewers, and Dan Rather is a major reason for that,” said Evan Haiman, vice president of music programming and production, AXS TV. “He has a unique ability to get larger-than-life figures to open up in a deeply personal way, showing viewers a side of these icons that they don’t usually get to see. Season seven continues that proud legacy, offering up even more of the legendary guests and in-depth discussions that have come to define the series throughout the years.”

A new season of Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money's AXS TV music series, specials

AXS TV announced the network’s upcoming prime time programming lineup slate. May premieres include 'Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar' and 'Real Money' with Eddie Money and his family and Sunday night concerts featuring The Eagles, Chicago, Bad Company and Aerosmith.

Beginning May 5, AXS will unveil all-new episodes of the popular music series Rock & Roll Road Trip With Sammy Hagar, following Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar’ s cross-country excursions as he interviews, jams, and parties with some of music’s biggest names; and the original reality series Real Money, which documents the life of Eddie Money and his talented family at home and on stage. Also that month: four classic rock concerts.

A new time slot (8pm EST), the same Sammy! The Red Rocker, Sammy Hagar, returns in 12 all-new episodes as he talks and rocks with a roster of enduring icons.

In the season premiere, Sammy cruises down to The World’s Largest Honky Tonk, Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, TX, to take in some local bull-riding action before joining Willie Nelson for a conversation, and hitting the stage with Nelson for a jam of “On The Road Again.” The season also features appearances and performances by Vince Neil, Charlie Daniels, Maynard James Keenan, Eddie Money, Guy Fieri, Robbie Krieger, and more.

Real Money (8:30pm EST) captures the daily lives of the Money family—which includes Eddie; Laurie, his wife of over 30 years; their five kids, Zach, Joe, Jesse, Dez, and Julian; and ten pets.

Season two finds the clan attending a Money family reunion with Eddie’s brothers and sisters in New York; on stage at their annual sold out concert in Detroit; hitting the lanes for a day of bowling; taking a family trip to South Dakota; and welcoming great dane puppy Bette to their growing pack.

AXS TV Concerts: Classic Rock—Every Sunday in May at 9pm EST

The Head And The Heart return with new album in May

The Head And The Heart have a new album, Living Mirage, due out on May 17 on Warner Bros./Reprise Records. “Missed Connection,” the first single from the new album, is now available to download, stream or watch the lyric video. Pre-order Living Mirage here.

A special livestream performance from The Belasco in Los Angeles will happen on March 21. Fans can tune in to the stream beginning at 8:30pm PT on The Head and The Heart and Live Nation’s Facebook pages.

Early last year, The Head And The Heart came together in the Mojave Desert’s Joshua Tree and experienced a “rebirth, a spirit quest of sorts,” said bassist Chris Zasche after the last album Signs of Light saw the amicable departure of guitarist-vocalist Josiah Johnson. He was replaced by Matt Gervais (husband to singer-violinist Charity Rose Thielen) and keyboardist Kenny Hensley returned.

Singer Jon Russell sees the new album as a sort of chronicle of stories and perspectives.

“In my mind, the songs on this album are vignettes. Like ‘Brenda’ reminds me of when you’re a teenager at a house party. You’re surrounded by noise—‘What am I doing here?’—and a ray of light comes down and you notice this person. You’re like, ‘Maybe I will stay.’ These songs feel honest.”

Then there's the choral “Missed Connection.”

“A lot of the beats on that song are quicker, and there are high hats that were never in our music before,” drummer Tyler Williams says, attributing the new sounds to their love of pop and hip-hop production.

The track began as a remembrance of how Jon met his girlfriend, until morphing into a potent metaphor for the band—which met around an open-mic night in Seattle 10 years ago—suddenly wondering, as he recalls, “Is it all going to work?”

Living Mirage is “literally the most work we’ve ever done on an album,” Russell says.
